Freya grabbed, and Hel yanked on her hair harder. Huh. A plus of having short hair! Now with Freya, holding onto her was all too easy.
“Oh ho! So you think you know what is good for me, eh!?” Hel echoed incredulously. “Oh ya, because you are just…the prime example of happiness right now, are you not!?” That was sneered with the utmost sarcasm. “You are…you are the authority on it! Bah! He is not a nasty boil! Stop insulting him in front of me!”
As Freya let go of her, and then punched her in the stomach, Hel released the older valkyrie, letting out a woosh of air as she doubled over briefly.
“He would rather deal with a scisbird enclosure than deal with you, Freya!” The ghoul cried, throwing her hands into the air. “So I seriously doubt he likes coming into your room! Gods! You are so obnoxious! I know you, Freya! You like to start s**t first!” Hel scowled, loudly, and, deciding that she was done dealing with Freya for now, especially since Kettil arrived, Hel was out of here now.
She jabbed a thumb at the Muut’s direction. “There is your boil toy that you were looking for.” She jabbed viciously. “I am leaving now.” With that she exited Freya’s room with a flourish, grabbing the door and letting it swing open loudly and bang against the wall, and didn’t even spare Kettil a second glance as she pushed past him and stormed down the hall.

The doorknob left his grasp before he could even do anything about it. The words Hel spat out dug into his right then fragile ego making him flinch and look even more downtrodden if at all possible. Right now was probably not the best time to be referred to as anyone's toy, even Freya. He let Hel past him giving her an otherwise blank look, "Nice seein' ya," was all he said in a dry quiet tone.
He wasn't sure what to make of this new squabble other than to make the connection that Mac was involved and he'd been in between some legs he probably shouldn't have been or something of that nature.
Tentatively he stepped into the room, "Umm..."

Awkward.
Freya watched her sister leave, her heart throbbing at the sight of the ghoul walking out in anger, and she flopped back down on the floor, sitting beside the now melted eyescream. She looked positively downtrodden, staring at the empty door for just one more second, before finally grabbing the eyescream, pulling it into her lap, and pulling the spoon out of the tub to shove it in her mouth with a pout.
She wrecked everything she touched.
Her eyes flickered up to Kettil, and she held the tub out to him. It was unclear whether she wanted it taken away, or whether she wanted to share. All that mattered was that she looked like she was going to start crying all over again.
Crying, or throwing the tub of melted ice cream at her sister's dorm across the hall.

Ready or not he was being looked upon by Freya with that face and after a few moments he closed the door behind him before he went and crouched with Freya and her melted ice cream. He took up the extra spoon that had been left behind by Hel not really knowing it was hers and in all likelihood not caring, germs did not exist in his world right now.
He took a spoonful of ice cream simply glad to see her eat without revulsion and thus he was happy to eat with her.
Some silence between them was soon filled with a simple question, "What happened?"

The spoon stopped in mid scoop when he finally spoke.
"Everything happened." Freya muttered. "Hel is ******** Mac. I just gains four pounds on this eyescream. Herryk breaks up with me." She took a spoonful out, and then shook the spoon at him. "Where were yeh, anyways? Yehr always here around this time, I comes home, and all I gets is my stupid, stupid sister hiding in my kitchen waitings teh scares the stupid out of me."
She swirled the spoon around the bottom of the eyescream, looking for any chocolate bits at the bottom.
"So MY day sucked." She growled as she fussed. "What abouts yeh. I was worried."

Kettil kind of just listened as he went for his share of the ice cream he let a small amused sound out, "You don't gain that much weight just sitting there and indulging a bit," he said softly as he then kind of almost choked on his ice cream.
Herryk breaks up with me.
Out of all the things that made him choke almost that was it, probably because he didn't know enough Mac to take issue with him or who he screwed around with.
When she turned the question on him he wanted to avoid it, go around it, anything. He was coming up empty on subject changes and then there was that promise of 'no corners'. One would think he'd be running to tell Freya about his newly acquired status as a bachelor but he was trying to get used to it himself.
"Lar and I are broken up, too. A few days ago I got a letter from her," Kettil said after a few moments, "this has been my good day."

The spoon clattered to the bottom of the tub, forgotten.
Freya was staring at Kettil like he was a madwoman. Was she surprised at the news? Certainly. Was she confused about how to feel? Absolutely. Was she mad as hell for some reason? Her eyes were lit up like flames, and Kettil's life looked to be in danger. But it was unclear as to why.
"A FEW DAYS?!?"
Oh. That was why.
Freya picked herself up off the floor and started pacing. "Yeh didn't tells me this? Why didn't yeh tells me this? Why didn't yeh comes teh me when this happens? I'm yehr best friend, I'm supposed teh be there when yeh has ghoul troubles. Why didn't yeh comes teh me? Why am I only hearings about this DAYS later?!"
Freya didn't know how much emotion she had left inside of her. She was so exhausted. She could only yell at so many people in one day.
She slumped against her kitchen counter and whined.

He flinched at the yelling and was mostly quiet as the spoon hung sheepishly out of his mouth as he watched her and listened to her as she scolded him for not coming to her sooner. Why hadn't he sought her out sooner? Why did he wait until now?
Kettil's fingertips gripped at the handle of the spoon before he finally took it out and put it in the tub drawing himself up to his feet, "I ...dunno," he admitted quietly, "I just wanted...a few days I guess? I never really been ... dumped before y'know?"
The Muut reached up and rubbed the back of his neck, "I ... I'm sorry about you and Herryk though..."

"THAT can waits." She almost growled. She did not want to turn the subject back to her and Herryk. She would turn into a ball of mush and tears and never come out of it. Kettil came first. "But that is not how this works. Yeh listens teh Freya. She's been dumped enough times teh knows. Here's what yeh does."
She opened up her fridge, and pulled out yet another tub of eyescream. Who put all these in here?!
She took it out, put it down on the floor in front of Kettil, and removed the messy melted one. Then she stuck her spoon inside of the cold eyescream, shuffled to sit beside him, and gathered him up in her arms from the side.
"Now, yeh eats yehr eyescreams, yeh tells Freya all about it, and yeh cries until yeh can't cries no more - well, except it's been days, so yeh probably already did yehr crying. Yeh jerk!" She whacked him across the head, and then patted the spot she'd smacked.

Suddenly new ice cream.
He moved to sit again and suddenly he was in her arms, he didn't know what to think of it at the moment so he just ... took a spoon full of ice cream as he got whacked (then patted) on the side of the head, "Ow! Heeey," he muttered around the spoon.
Kettil wasn't sure what to expect from Freya but he was pretty sure this wasn't among the scenarios he was thinking about. Still they had a promise and he indulged in a bit more ice cream before he started to tell the details, "She...wrote me a letter, it was all rumpled and tear stained," he said with a bit of a sigh, "In it she basically said that her parents were fighting and she was afraid that we would become like that and how she wasn't ready to date as she thought she was," he tapped the spoon on the side of the container, "she also felt that she was in a rut and didn't want to hold me back," a troubled frown came over his face and it seemed he had at least a couple of tears to squeeze out for that feeling that it gave him.
"It just...she didn't give me a chance to prove her wrong, at all," his tone was a little angry, or at least frustrated.

Freya listened very carefully, rocking the boil in her arms as he explained exactly how Lark had broken the news. A letter felt like cheating.. but if she couldn't come back to tell him in person, at least she was honest enough to tell him at all. Still, after what little she'd seen of the two, the news blew her away. She wasn't ready to date? She looked ready to Freya.. especially ready to show the valkyrie whose boil Kettil really was. What was with everyone punching Freya in the face, anyway?!
Focus, Freya. Focus.
"Prove her wrong?" Freya thought she'd listened, but she didn't understand. Then again, she'd had so little experience with Lark, she felt like she was missing important parts of the picture. Furthermore, she wasn't as good at consoling as she thought, and she gave a wistful look to the door, suddenly wishing Hel were back to say the things Kettil probably needed someone to say.
"So, if she's not ready, yeh thinks.. she will be one day?" Maybe she just didn't want to string Kettil along. But Lark risked losing him forever, if she did that.
She did what was best for the boil. Freya appreciated that. She still hated her for breaking Kettil's heart.. but she appreciated the honesty. That was how best friends rolled.

He sniffed a bit as he poked at the ice cream with the spoon now, "To prove to her ... that we wouldn't eventually grow to hate each other as her parents do now, to show that... We wouldn't argue all the time. Some of the time sure, but..." He frowned deeply and sighed.
The question made him tense a little bit and his shoulder shifted into a shrug, "I don't know Freya, but I don't think...I should wait around for when she's ready...? Nothin' in her letter even suggested I should," he muttered under his breath.
Kettil stared at the tub of ice cream a moment, "...On the day I got the letter I didn't want to talk to anyone at all but a boil I met before was sittin' in the same tree that I was in and got me to spill my dirty guts...He said that things changed, right? That it is okay to go out and experience new things and stuff...Cause we're teenagers...Still learnin'..."
Distorted memories during heartbreak. How fun you are.

"Oh." Her voice got very quiet. "So yeh wanted teh talks teh a boil." She was glad he couldn't see her, because that depressed her. "I gets it. Is fine." She let him go, and went in for her own spoonful of eyescream, ready to start in on the new tub.
"Well.. then.. I'm glad yeh founds someone teh talks teh." She didn't sound very glad. "I'm sorry it didn't works out with Lark, though. Seems like nothings workings out teh way anybody thoughts it would, lately."
Kettil and Lark. Mot and Hel. Mac and Lizzy. And now her and Herryk, too.
This month was cursed.
She stabbed the eyescream and took a giant mouthful.

"NGgngngngggnnn," was all she got in response from Kettil for a long moment. It sounded angry whatever it was. He took in a deep breath and then let it out once more as he stabbed the eyescream with a spoon, "No! That's not it at all Freya!" he suddenly said more loudly than how he'd meant it but he had just been so pent up and frustrated for the past couple of days he just didn't know where to go with it anymore.
His hands moved up to cover his face for a long moment. Another shuddering sigh, "Don't...Don't ...Say it like ... I was shunning you or something because if I had wanted to actually talk to someone at the time...It would have been you first but...He was there and he showed he wanted to listen," he clenched his hands into fists and rubbed at his forehead with them, "so I talked to him and...he gave me perspective..."
Right now it seemed he couldn't handle another ghoul getting sad at him or upset at him.

Freya dropped her spoon in the eyescream and just stared.
For all the time she'd known and been with Kettil, she was relatively certain she'd actually never heard him take that tone of voice with her. She didn't know how to process it coming from Kettil. She just stared, blank and shocked, even after he'd finished talking.
At least a whole minute later, she finally turned away, jaw still dropped in complete silent shock.
