Toreth chuckled. "I dunno, there's some tough kids out there. All they really lack is experience." He glanced off to the horizon, where a dust cloud had started to form. "Is it just me, or is that our cue to get lost," he asked in a remarkably calm voice, considering what was coming at them either had to be a major storm, a massive herd of animals, or some kind of demon plague.

“Yeah I suppose there are some pretty tough kits here. I know that my Grandmother was just barely an adult when she walked through the desert and we have a couple of perma kits that made it here. Plus I think the first generation of foxes that came to Kemet all arrived not really knowing desert life. Its just how I treat everyone pretty much though.”

Kepi let her lip turn into a slight snarl as she stared at the dust cloud. She felt like cussing but then that wouldn’t be very lady like now would it. Hell even that thought wanted to make her snarl. “yep that’s our cue to get lost” she sighed.

Permakits? That was a new one to Toreth. He knew enough about them to know they really existed and weren't just a legend or myth, though that was all he knew. Kaleth could tell him more if he wanted to know, he was sure; heck, just by living with them he was willing to bet Kepi could have as well.

But now was certainly not the time for that.

"Agreed," Toreth said, wiggling over to move a bit closer to Kepi while keeping an eye on the dust cloud. "Anywhere we can go, or are we going to have to climb this tree and hang on for dear life while hoping they don't somehow smash it down?"

Kepi nibbled on her lip and watched as the dust cloud grew closer. Was there any where safe nearby? She really didn’t trust that tree to save her life when another fox was on it. She might have decided to try it if it was just her. However since it wasn’t just her she had to think of different options. If only she knew exactly what the size of the herd was and where it was. However it was doubtful any of the other scouts where any where close.

“Well I guess we can go there” She finally spoke up.

She liked avoiding the place since it was where her mom had proclaimed her Dad as her mate so Kepi always looked towards it as a distasteful romantic spot however there was really little option now considering she could now see the stampede all they had to do now was cross the river. “come on lets go.”

"Yup there. Really specific spot that stands out, you can't miss it," Toreth muttered under his breath, quietly so that Kepi couldn't hear him. He didn't think it would matter much if she did since he doubted she could outrun him or beat him in a fight, nor did she seem like the vindictive type that would tattle and sic her tribe on him; more like the kind to settle the score in her own way. It would be even scarier if she was the patient kind who waited until the right moment for their revenge. Kaleth was like that, and it was the one area in which he could freak Toreth out.

He turned and ran after Kepi, following a few feet behind and to her right so as not to trip her up or run into her.

She was just going to lead him to the temple but since all the wildebeest where close enough there was a slight chance they might be separated and ‘there’ was a pretty vague statement. “Sorry for the vagueness, there would be that temple over that sand dune. Once we get on top of it, the temple is pretty hard not to miss.” Now the only problem was getting up said sand dune, it took some time even when you weren’t running to a nearby spot. She looked back towards Toreth for a brief moment; well he said he was a strong one. She was going to just believe he could do it.

“We have a few moments to look back towards the river, should be an interesting enough sigh to maybe share with your brother about your travels today” she commented.

Toreth chuckled briefly as they fought their way up the sand dune. "I'll take your word for it until we actually make it to the top of the dune!"

He was finding the sand a challenge to run in. Not that he hadn't tried it before this, but those other times he hadn't been running for his life. He had to shift his weight in a way he wasn't entirely used to so his feet didn't sink into the sand or slip and twist something. At this point being unable to run would probably be a death sentence.

Off in the distance he could hear an onimous rumbling, like a low roar of thunder.

“Probably the best move” Kepi stated and then went back to working on running up the sand dune. She had run up sand dunes before and knew how to move up one but it wasn’t to say it wasn’t challenging this time either.

Not even bothering to look at Toreth to see if he was doing well she just assumed that he was managing to keep up after all she would have heard him fall if his legs or footing had given out. Finally close enough to the top she went a little slower just since near the top could be the most dangerous. The thundering rumbling was almost deafening but she knew better than to look behind yet.

“Okay one land mark out of the way” She took a deep breath, the herd was unlikely to come up the sand dune but just in case she would keep on moving.

Toreth struggled up beside Kepi, feeling his muscles burning the the exertion they'd just been put through. "Ah excellent," he said, only a touch breathier. "So headlong change and keep our tails crossed we make it in time?"

He'd given a glance back over his shoulder as soon as he crested the dune; that and the sound filling his ears more than convinced him that he wanted to push on, even though he doubted those pointy hooves ability to climb sand versus his and Kepi's large webbed paws.

“Well they should at least be distracted by the grass down there for a while so I doubt until more of them cross that they’ll attempt to get up the sand dune. Thus it doesn’t have to be the strained charge it was to get up here.” Kepi replied.
However one should never underestimate the prey that came to kemet, as living in such a land they were a pretty hard food driven bunch. Toreth looked like he wasn’t entirely safe yet so Kepi would continue towards the temple. He looked like he had regained his breath so she started towards the temple.

"I prefer not to take chances," Toreth said, echoing Kepi's thoughts. "Usually it's right when you think you're safe that stuff comes back to bite you in the tail. I'd rather be sure and accused of being a worrywart than get tramped." He chuckled a little, feels the muscles in his legs stretch and burn pleasantly as he chased after Kepi.

He did relax just a little though, taking some comfort in the distance they'd put between them already and the complete lack of grass around them now as compared to what was behind them.

“Probably the safest course if not a little boring at times, then again it always keeps you alive to do something worthwhile in the future” Kepi decided, however she did agree on his statement about the whole its always when you feel the safest. After all that was one of Kemet’s main rules. You never knew just what the modeities where going to think.

A couple of minutes later had them in range to see the temple. Kepi really didn’t like going into the things like half of her family so she didn’t really know too much on the protocol on the whole entering temples. Hopefully it would be one honoring Osiris.

Toreth looked around with interest as he followed behind Kepi into the temple. He’d never been inside a dwelling before. There’d been some ruins that he and Kaleth had stumbled over, but it was nothing more than a bunch of crumbling rocks and there’d be no sense of “inside” like there was at this place. It was noticeably cooler, the stone smooth and comfortable under his paws. His and Kepi’s nails made very muted scratching sounds that lightly echoed back to them. How strange. “Inside” felt like a whole different world to him.

“Interesting place,” he commented, turning his attention back to Kepi. “Is this the only building you’ve got around here or are there more like it?” He couldn’t picture a place as wild as this land having a ton of buildings that felt as tame and quiet as this one did, but he’d be the first to admit he hadn’t seen everything the world had to offer.

As they entered the first section of the temple, Kepi washed off her feet recognizing the temple. It wasn’t the Deity she was hoping for but cleaning off was necessary for both of them. The air in the temple had a weird feeling to it. It felt a bit different that other temples she had been in, but she wasn’t sure that meant that there was a deity staying here or not. Well she’d tell her uncle about it as soon as they left or if another scout came close enough for her to talk to. There was even a good chance that the temple was pretty much ready to visit.

“no there are tons of these scattered across Kemet, at one point in time the tribe got along with humans so they built these for us. Then relationships fell apart and the tribe was demolished for a while… supposedly or something like that. One of the other members could tell you more” Kepi replied

Toreth watched Kepi wash her feet. He stood there for a moment, then with a mental shrug he went over and copied her actions. He didn’t particularly care how dirty his feet were, but if this building was important to her tribe or something he figured it was at least manners not to track dirt and sand everywhere. The stone floor was pretty clean, now that he looked at it.

“Huh. So humans helped to build this,” he said, looking at the walls again with renewed interest. “So there’s no humans around anymore who might be using this building or think it’s theirs?” Suddenly he laughed. “Oh man! Kaleth is going to be soooo pissed off that he isn’t here right now to see this!” The male chuckled, highly amused. “You see he’s more the scholar of the two of us, might have already mentioned that. He would totally flip at being here and would be pelting you with questions.”

He looked over at Kepi and gave her a wink. “Aren’t you glad you got to meet the strong brother instead?”
