I use both types. I reuse characters and make new ones.
I use 3 main ones with revolving names-
Rillianne/Rin/Rina
Lilliane/Lily
Azmariah/Azzy
Though I made up other characters as well that are one times only.
Like:
~Sofia
~Annabella
~ Gardenia

Mmmm...I'll probably use the same character most of the time, but would like the flexibility of changing characters where necessary. Perhaps I have one permanent character and create new ones as room hosts and such.
