Eva's apology was acknowledged, but outwardly ignored in favour of maintaining his pride. He would not admit the comment had insulted him. So all he did was shrug. Otto listened quietly to Eva's answer. Nightmares, ah. He had a lot of those too. Often they were tolerable, but once in a while, so vivid he couldn't sleep after. He supposed the mountains of pillows and blankets he surrounded himself in held the same purpose as the plushes did to Eva. Otto managed a sheepish smile, which faded almost as quick as it came. "Well, that's good then." He murmured, seeming satisfied that they seemed to help her so much. "I'd have gotten you different stuff but I don't know what you actually like."

Wait.
Had Otto just smiled? Eva stared at him blankly for a moment, though it was hard to tell if she had simply imagined it since the smile had disappeared almost as quickly as it had appeared. After a short pause, the girl grinned, clearly pleased to finally see the blond smile for once. And no, those smirks he usually wore did not count.
"Truth be told, I'm not sure what I specifically like either. I kind of just...cherish anything that people give me." With a laugh, she fumbled with the flower hairpins in her hair, and then the bracelets on either of her wrists. "The saying 'it's the thought that counts' pretty much describes me, I suppose!"

The rare and elusive smile of Otto: would she ever see it again? Well, that was an Eva answer. Eva just seemed to like anyone and anything. Like some kind of Disney princess, but less likely to burst into song; more likely to burst into giggles and drag you to put bows in your hair. Otto absently scratched at the place he knew the heart had been pressed on his cheek. "Well cool. That means I dont gotta get bent out of shape around Christmas again." He paused and raised his brow. "Wait... when is your Birthday..?" He didnt miss it, did he? It was nearing a year since they'd woken up.

Eva blinked blankly at the inquiry about her birthday, and then she laughed, lifting a hand and flapping it dismissively. "Thaaat's a secret. My birthday has never really been much of a big deal to me, so really Puppy, don't worry about it."
She reached out to pinch his cheeks then, grinning from ear to ear. "But it's almost the anniversary of when we all woke up, right? My goodness, how you've changed since then." He was still grumpy, of course, and still kind of snappish, but he definitely wasn't nearly as hostile as he had once been.
...Truth be told, thinking back to when they first arrived, Eva definitely missed Reine. Where the third member of their trio had gone, she didn't exactly know, but...

Dammit. She was withholding information. That b***h. "Fine." He mumbled with a huff. Not like he cared. Who's want to give Eva a present and cake and celebrate her birthday? Not Otto. Nope. Never. That'd be dumb, anyway. "Huh?" He'd changed? Otto thought he was the same as ever. Maybe he didn't hate things as much as before, but he still felt awkward with people. The blonde furrowed his brows and scratched his cheek. Maybe being forced to interact with so many people did change him a little. He wasn't sure if it was for the better or not. "Funny. It almost feels longer than a year." Most seemed to say it went by quick, but lately time dragged on for the boy from the south. Days dragged into one another, and even with a feeble grasp on time it still had the speed of molases.

Ahaha, had she made him mad? Eva reached out to give the boy a hug, patting him on the head as she drew back. "Aww, don't be grumpy. But thanks for thinking about me anyways, puppy." He really had come quite a long way...though she supposed that she had changed a little as well.
"I know what you mean," The girl agreed, her voice growing softer, "I actually kind of feel as if I've been in this place my whole life. I can hardly remember what things were like before I came here." She knew that she had been living with her parents, and that she had been enrolled in a nursing school program...but how had she passed the days by back then? It was things like that--the little things--that she couldn't recall.
There was the sudden pop of the sharpie's cap being removed again, and with a wicked grin, Eva turned to face Otto. "Anyways, there's still some time left until we can go. How about we even out your heart by drawing one on the other cheek?"
And so the rest of the pod duty time consisted of Eva chasing Otto around the room.

Ugh. A hug. He still wasn't willing to return it, but he didn't make a move to wiggle free either. My, he really had changed. It was almost unsettling.
Otto nodded. Though he did recall how he spent his days before Deus. Drumming, watching MTV, and sneaking out to visit his girlfriend in the next town over. And of course home schooling. That part was the worst.
The teen's eyes widened as she uncapped the marker again. "You stay back, woman!" Otto yelped.
A ridiculous chase seen ate up the remainder of their shift.
