EXTRA TICKET SOLO
Swimming was not Atarah's forte. As one might have imagined, swimming was not the national sport of a desert planet like Uranus. No, swimming for fun was a thing that only rich people did, a sign of luxury - drowning was, well, again, only a thing that happened to rich people because who else would be stupid enough not to know how to float? Yeah, seriously.
Okay, so possibly there were perfectly normal non-über-rich people who also knew how to swim. Probably people who lived near one of the larger lakes, or something. Who knew. The golden-haired girl didn't, that was for sure - the only water around her Wonder was a small pond and some wells. Not exactly prime locations for training your swimming skills.
So all in all, perhaps it wasn't that surprising that Atarah was just piddling along in the water. She was moving, yes, and she hadn't drowned (yet), so maybe that constituted as some sort of natural skill at it or something. It did help that an older knight had taken her aside a couple of days before the opening and taught her a few of the basics. So perhaps it was less natural skill and more the good-will of her peers that kept Atarah in the swimming race.
But frankly, even she wasn't idiot enough to think she'd be winning a medal for this. She'd be happy enough just to get out of it alive, Princess willing. So she kept on plodding through the water, trying (futilely) to keep most of it in the basin and out of her damn nose and mouth. Occasionally she passed another knight, and she couldn't help but wonder what the hell kind of swimmer was bad enough to get passed by her.
One that'd had a heart-attack, probably.

Claude's Solo Ticket
Claude was not really all that athletic. Not really anyway. He ran, if only to keep himself in shape. So speed based events, he knew, would end up being his strongest. Speed and agility based. This seemed to fit the bill pretty well. Granted, he hadn’t really trained for this sport but… who in these events had trained? Really? Claude’s invite, at least, had been a shock. Then again, the man always did have his nose stuck in a book. It was rather surprising that he’d even come to the events at all.
He took his place at the lip of the pool, glasses perched atop his towel behind him. Maybe in something like this, it was better not to be able to see. That way he couldn’t see the competition and he’d just swim.
How hard could that be, right?
Very.
hadn’t swum since he was a younger man; needless to say he’d forgotten how demanding it was. He’d been floating in pools for so long anymore. Claude truly wasn’t an athlete at all. A pedantic for certain… why was he even here? He growled into the water as he pressed on, arms moving in whatever semblance of a rhythm he could muster. This was getting less and less fun by the moment.
When finally Claude did reach the edge of the pool, his chest was heaving. His lungs burned. That was probably the worst idea he’d ever had. Ever. His limbs felt like jelly and his head ached. Despite his obvious fatigue, however, he refused help. He was still a knight of Pluto, and he still had his pride. Inwardly, however, was another story. Claude resolved then and there, as he dried himself and replaced his glasses, to give up swimming forever. Nothing good could ever come of this.

He enjoyed swimming. Perhaps it was because Neptune itself was a fairly aquatic planet? Or perhaps it was just his father instilling a love of the water in him at a young age. Whatever the reason, Isaac could feel his heart hammering against his chest as he warmed up for the event, wind-milling his arms through the air as he lunged out to the side with each of his legs, ensuring that he felt a slight burn in each of his muscles, a groan lamenting the exercise they were about to endure. The dark-haired boy looked around at his competitors, eyeing each of them up by giving them a quick once over, studying their physical condition. The competition was strong, but that was only to be expected, and if he was to win he certainly didn’t want it to be by default. Stronger competitors meant stronger competition, and that was something that Isaac thrived off of.
A buzzer was sounded, indicating to take position, He stepped forwards, rubbing his hands together, feeling his heartbeat quicken in anticipation of the upcoming event. This was it – this was for Neptune. He was a lowly Page, but here he was representing Neptune in the Galactic Olympics. Even if he should be struck down in a conflict with Chaos tomorrow, he would die happy, knowing he’d competed on a massive stage such as the Galactic Olympics and representing Neptune honestly and fairly. Taking his position, Isaac gave all of his limbs a quick final shake before crouching down beside the edge of the pool, pushing his legs out behind him and gripping his fingers around the edge of the pool, ready to dive in when the buzzer should sound a second time and indicate the start of the race. He could hear his heartbeat in his ears, feel the blood and adrenaline rushing through his veins, feel the twitching of his muscles as they waited in anticipation for the start signal. He swallowed and closed his eyes, trying to instil a sense of calm in his body.
The buzzer sounded, and Isaac took a deep breath as he pushed off with all the power he could muster, relishing in the refreshing feeling of cold water striking him in the face.
