DarkHalcyon Freud thought so. He said that the soul resided in the nose, and that since Jews had bigger noses we well....Had more soul. whee Then again, he also did a lot of coke for that same reason... Screw those trippin' Jungians, I love Freud. xp heart

oh em jyu I went to a Kadima-USY regional event yesterday, which meant, for a day, the Islands of Adventure theme park was overrun by Jews. As you can imagine, there were many Jew jokes flying around- mostly from Jews themselves, but a few whispered thing by other park-goers. As a result, it got me thinking about Jewish stereotypes, and then to pose the question in the title of this thread. What is the most annoying (often extremely off-target) stereotype about Jews? Personally, I think it's so aggravating when everyone assumes Jews are a bunch of cheapo cheapskates. Yes, I cut out the coupons from a newspaper or magazine and use them. I'm sorry if I find two seconds of my time worth the money I'll save cutting out the coupons. It doesn't mean I'm a penny-pinching, money-hoarding b*****d. I don't automatically buy anything just because it's on sale, and I will spend a ridiculous amount of money on something if I want it bad enough (re; my pending purchase of an extremely expensive Coach purse). Yes, I like to save money when I can, but it's not as obssessive or creepy or over-the-top as people stereotypicalize. I think I just invented a verb.A Kadima-USY event at IOA? I WAS THERE TOO! (I was the tall freak in the yellow windbreaker and the "mountain Jew" shirt) biggrin One thing that cheeses me off is the "Jewish look". (IE brown hair, brown eyes, big nose.) I fit the brown hair and brown eyes part, but I have a relatively small nose compared to some members of my family. Everyone is always like. "Funny. You don't look Jewish." It's like going up to a blonde in a headscarf and saying "Funny. You don't look muslim." And it sure as heck cheeses me off.

And I have a blocking rehersal for the Holocaust education show I'm in. I go to camp ramah, thank you very much. Hmm... maybe you know some of my friends....

I live in the south. Oddly, enough, people don't seem to have a lot of misconceptions about Judaism---instead they just assume that I'm Christian, and have even gone as far to argue with me when I informed them that I wasn't.
Dunno if that counts as a misconception, but it's certainly irksome.
