"Causes are good, I think!" She beamed at him. "Like, I t-think it's nice to have something to believe in. As long as one doesn't get fanatic, I guess, because fanaticism kind of always ends badly, doesn't it?" Now she looked a bit worried, "D'you think what we're doing is like, fanatic?" She gestured between them, meaning both his court and her's. After all, they were both working for a cause, even if they were different ones. And she bet he'd had to hurt people for his cause too, just like she'd had to with the Negaversers. Did that make them fanaticists?

Remarque quirked a brow. Him, a fanatic? Bull s**t. The White Moon though—yeah, maybe. He hadn't put much thought into it, but the pieces seemed to fit. He didn't consider himself single-minded enough to be a fanatic. Was he dedicated to the cause? Yeah. Was he so blinded by it that he couldn’t tihnk of anything else? He didn't think so.
…Not like the White Moon, who had rejected them as soon as they came onto the scene. They had been so firm in their beliefs that not only were they unwilling to change, they were unwilling to even listen.
Bigots, the lot of them.
Ignorance would come back to haunt them, and he could only hope that by the time thye realized how wrong they were, it wasn't too late to save them. He didn't want to have to kill them. Beat them until they were a little more compliant? He could do that. But good old conversation would be his saving grace in this war. He shouldn't have to hurt someone just to show them how wrong they were before. Not when saving them should have been so easy.
"Some of us, maybe," he said, reluctant even to use the term 'us'. "I'd like to think the Dark Mirror Court has been open minded. Our Court was founded on principles that strayed from the believe of the White Moon. We know that all is not always as it seems. Will I stick by Ares, stick by our cause? Absolutely. Unless you can show me something better, but," he shrugged his shoulders for added influence. "…The Dark Mirror Court wouldn’t exist if the White Moon Kingdom had anything better to offer."

She considered his words carefully, turning each one over in her mind. He didn't strike her as a fanatic, either - he was too charming for that, she thought, and he hadn't tried to attack her or anything. He'd kind of hinted that she might be happier in the Dark Mirror Court, where there were some structure to be had, but he hadn't overtly pressed his point, either. If he was a fanatic, then he hid it very well. "I... still don't really understand all this, b-but you don't really seem like a fanatic to me, either." She perked up. "If the rest of your court is like you, then I d-don't think there's anything to worry about at all! I kinda wish we could all just get along, you know?" Maybe she'd already mentioned that, but she really did wish they could all just live alongside each other, without having to hurt anyone. That'd be Vanadis' Utopia, for sure. Kyuseisha no Hikari Fun fact: if everyone in the DMC was like Remarque and didn't keep attacking her Vanadis would probably join in a heartbeat. XD

Remarque just smiled at her. He could really only hope that the rest of the Dark Mirror Senshi would make as much of an effort to rope new senshi in, though they all had their talents—even if some of them were only really good at pissing other people off or getting their asses handed to them. "One day," he promised. He had no doubt in his mind that one day, everyone would get along. Even if that meant removing the disagreeable ones, and corrupting the rest—there was only one outcome.
The White Moon could fight for as long as they liked, but it would only be a matter of time before they grew weary of it. Or tore themselves apart. Before they got tired of fighting in a war they'd soon come to learn they would never win.
The Dark Mirror Court would just have to wait it out, and save all that they could in the meantime.
"One day there will be peace," he said after a slight pause. "And there won't be any issues. Everything we know and love will be safe, and there won't be any fighting. We just have to get to that point in time and hope that those who are fanatics back off and let that happen." Or get themselves killed.

That sounded nice, but a bit unlikely in Vanadis' opinion. "That'd be great," despite her words, the tone of her voice was sad and her eyes were a bit unfocused, "but I don't think that'll ever happen. I mean... it'd be really fantastic, b-but human beings just aren't made like that. There'll always be differing opinions no matter what you do, and p-people will always fight over it." It just wasn't meant to be, she thought, there would never really be true peace on Earth unless you killed every human being alive. No matter how hard you tried, you could never quite reach perfection while people were still people; it was a nice ideal, but it just didn't work. In her opinion it was better to just do good where you could and try to make peace as well as you could. But truly believing that one could really make that kind of utopia was futile and not very level-headed. "It's like... communism. It's an awesome ideal, and on paper it works, but once you add people, it'll always go wrong."

A smile quirked onto Remarque's face at the comparison. "People will always have opposing ideas, Vanadis. And people are flawed," some much more so than others, "But that doesn't mean that one day we won't find a way to leave peacefully. I don't doubt that there will still be disputes and arguments—but this war? It'll be long over. And no one will have to fight—to die—to make things fair. It would really be a shame if you wouldn't at least consider the Dark Mirror Court. What you lack in battle experience, you more than make up for with wisdom. We could use more people like you amongst us. Level headed, with general concern and care for those around you. The Dark Mirror Court isn't about doing bad things. We want a greater good that the White Moon just hasn't realized yet. People like you—people with that passion and consciousness. We could make a near perfect world," he murmured, eyes still on hers. "We just need more pieces to the puzzle. You could help," he offered. "…Help end the war, the fighting, the death. Wouldn't you rather a world where we exist together, peacefully? …A society that—despite the flaws of humans—functions for all of us?"

She was pretty sure that if Remarque ever went into politics, he'd win any election he set his sights on with a landslide majority vote. He certainly talked the Dark Mirror Court's case well - Vanadis even felt herself wavering, wondering if joining his faction really was the right thing to do. But she couldn't change course now, could she? And as much as she wanted an actual leader to look up to, to get directions from, she didn't know nearly enough about the Dark Mirror Court or its leader to really make that decision. And, well, she kinda wanted to stay on Earth, to be honest. Even if space was pretty darn tempting. "I, I - yes of course, but... I want it to be here." She looked conflicted for a moment before straightening her spine and trying to look more determined than she actually was. "I can't accept t-that offer, but, um, thank you for offering still?" Kyuseisha no Hikari Long over-due rusty tag is rusty indeed! Apologies ;;

How utterly disappointing. And Remarque had been so convinced that he might be able to whisk this little senshi off to a better life and a better cause. Still, he could at least be satisfied that she'd listened to him—and she wasn't shouting or dismissing his words. He wore a small, relatively amused smile as she straightened. He didn't know what was going through her head, but he had at least enjoying putting it there.
"Think on it," he insisted. "Take your time and consider it. I won't press it, if you really don't think it's in your best interest. Perhaps you'll come to realize, given enough time, that it's something you'd like to invest yourself in. I can leave it at that, though, and give you some time to think about it. If you change your mind, or ever want to know more, do me a favor and let me know." He flashed Vanadis a friendly smile. "It'd be a pleasure to speak with you again."

"Sure! It was really fun to talk with you too." She thought for a second, "er, well, not fun as such, it was more... interesting? Yeah, interesting. But it really was very interesting." Her determined stance shifted into a genuine smile; talking with Remarque had made her realise a lot of things about her own opinion that she'd never actually taken the time to consider before. Somehow, she felt more ready to be a senshi now than she'd ever done before - their talk had given her a clarity of purpose that she'd always lacked, as a civilian but also, and especially, as a senshi. Even if she was pretty sure that he was technically an enemy, she'd always appreciate him for what he'd done for her, probably quite inadvertently. And consider him a friend. Just a little bit, in the back of her mind! "But I better get home before it g-gets too late, huh? Thanks for the talk! I hope we meet again, still under, um, friendly circumstances." She waved with a smile before taking off, pretty certain that he wasn't about to go wreak havoc on any civilians. Remarque was definitely way too nice for something like that, so she shouldn't feel bad about leaving him unsupervised like that or anything.

Remarque leaned back as he watched the senshi leave; she had been friendly enough—open minded enough…
And yet it wasn't enough.
He'd enjoyed their conversation, though he was still chewing thoughtfully on the inside of his cheek as he watched her go. She had potential—if only she could be won over into the Court. As it stood now, she was naive—and the White Moon would use that to mold her into whatever they wants. He could only hope that she'd be more persuaded by the Dark Mirror Court before they had time to pollute her mind.
Tonight, he had done enough. Hopefully she would have enough to think about tonight that the next time he saw her she'd be begging to join.
After all that, he'd have hated to lose her.
