Z'fer almost had her! Eight turns with Calanoth had taught him not to worry about the bronze. He loved challenging himself and others just as much as Z'fer did. The man hadn't considered Hekate's reaction would be any different. His fingers grazed her shirt just as the mental panic hit him. ~ Calanoth? ~

The wave of panic radiating from Devith caught Calanoth by surprise. Right. Atypicals. Devith's bold actions and words had made Calanoth forget the limitations of his color at such a young age. ~ Mine. Stop her. I got him. ~ The bronze gave another hard thrust of his wings and put on a burst of speed to catch up with the little hatchling. He ducked below Devith, sliding his neck underneath the silver before allowing himself to gently but swift begin their ascent. ~ You'll be fine Devith, just hold that breath a little longer... ~

Z'fer swore as Hekate dove. He filled his lungs and went after her, using all of his strength to pull himself through the water. He closed their short distance swiftly and wrapped his arms roughly around her waist, Kicking through the pain in his calf he dragged them both back to the surface.

He gasped once his face hit the air. "Stupid girl! You can't swim that deep! Calanoth won't let him drown." He released one arm from her to help keep their heads above water but the other he left curled about her slender form, hugging her firmly to himself.

His! His! He had to get to His! Devith thought his vision spotting as he tried to claw his way towards the surface in his panic. He couldn't leave her! He had to meet her half way! MINE! He called desperate in her mind as Hekate tried to soothe his panic even as he felt Calanoth come up beneath him lifting him towards the surface. Gripping the bronze tight Devith cast his head this way and that searching for his and fighting back the urge to creel for Hekate as he had done on the hatching sands still determined to keep some inch of pride.

Hekate was almost there, her clothes slowing her somewhat as she pulled herself through the water when suddenly she felt strong arms wrapping tight about her waste dragging her up, up and away from her life mate. Devith! She tried to scream, but it came out only as bubbles as she was hauled to the surface gasping and coughing only to turn to find herself in the grips of that infernal bronze rider!

"I am Not stupid." Hekate snapped with enough venom to poison a tunnelsnake, her amber gold eyes bright with anger only sparing him the full wrath of her gaze to turn and check that his words were true as she struggled in his grip. Only upon seeing Devith spluttering and sneezing break the surface did she relax seeming to practically melt against Z'fer with relief.

Devith? Are you all right?
She hastily asked the young hatchling, Lady the little green flush with her owner's worry landing on Devith's neck to croon and rub her little green head against his hide affectionately. Even Prince, the ever lazy flit simply took roost on Z'fer's shoulder until he could transfer himself back to his owners neck gave Devith a chirrup of concern.

I think I am done swimming for today Mine. Devith said his usually commanding tone taking a slightly more piteous edge to it with his exhaustion.

"Safe~" Hekate sighed stilling in Z'fer's grip and kicking her own legs out to help the two to stay afloat as she tried to ignore how perfectly her smaller form fit against his. "You should have let me dive. I'd have been fine." She added turning to look up at him, like dragon like rider. "You didn't hurt your leg again did you?" She questioned a little bit softer her tone filling with the gentler sound of concern

Calanoth winced as the little claws dug into his tender hide but said nothing, just drawing them into the air with a burst. Water poured down his hide and dripped off of his head as he turned back and nudged Devith with an apologetic rumble. ~ Next time...I will be more careful. ~ His eyes were tinged with anxiety as he slowly peddled the two of them towards their riders.

Z'fer struggled to keep his grip on her during her initial struggle. "Shut up, see!? They're fine!" He could help but feel elation and pride at seeing Calanoth break the surface. That was his dragon! Heroically saving the weak. He glanced sideways at Prince as he perched on his shoulder. "Who asked you?" Z'fer raised a eyebrow at Hekate, grinning an trying to lighten the situation a bit. He hadn't been worried about her dragon at all but it was obvious she'd taken a fright. He gave her a squeeze as she relaxed against him.

Calanoth held his head low, reaching out to Z'fer as he drifted up to them. The smallest of whines escaped the large bronze. He touched his nose to Z'fers shoulder, taking comfort in the man's caress. ~ I didn't think he'd tire so quickly...~ He said meekly.

Z'fer hung onto Calanoth, using him as support even as he had his other arm around Hekate. ~ You did nothing wrong. ~ He reassured his dragon even as he spoke to Hekate. "Calanoth had him. you'd have just gotten in the way. My leg is fine. We're made of stronger stuff than you give me credit for." A bit of a lie, his leg was killing him but it was his turn not to have his pride injured further. He'd just commandeer some numbweed later. He had a legitimate excuse after all.

Devith simply lay on Calanoth's neck panting for a few moments though he did loosen his claws so as to not hurt his bronze friends hide. Giving a little shake he sent droplets of water flying off him and nearly sent Lady flying with him as the green clung to him chittering scoldingly. I should have watched how deep I dived. Devith replied in turn shifting slightly with guilt at having caused the bronze and his rider such worry.

Hekate had to restrain herself from snapping at him further, but remained still waiting for the big bronze to swim closer and doing her best to ignore Z'fer's pleasant squeeze. "Prince." She commanded the little slilver taking the oppertunity to slink from Z'fer's neck and curl himself back about his owner's. Now that the initial scare was over the lazy flit closed his eyes and seemed for all the world to drift off to sleep with a content chirp. After all he was a prince, he had to get the last word in.

Though it was no small wound to her pride Hekate listened to Z'fer in silence before finally grinding out "All right Z'fer I'm sorry I doubted your strength. You can let go of me now. I want to go check on Devith." Before slipping from his grip with a sharp dive before the man could react. Surfacing, with a slightly spluttering silver flit she carefully climbled onto Calanoth's neck so as to not hurt the large bronze taking a seat next to Devith.

Patting the bronze's hide she offered the dragon a smile. "Thank you for saving him for me Calanoth." Hekate spoke before turning to Devith. It was the silver's turn to be meek as he quietly draped himself into his rider's lap his eyes whirling with worry as she checked him over.

You scared me. Came her silent accusation as the hatchling nudged her hand gently Devith eyeing her somewhat apologetically before puffing himself back up.

Yes, but I won. He countered his voice rich with pride at his accomplishment. Sighing and patting her lifemate's head Hekate chuckled.

That you did. She added unable to mad with the hatchling for long when she would have done the same thing had she been in his place.

A legend like ours will not be ended by a petty lack of air Mine. The hatchling assured her though his proud tone softened slightly as he recalled his own fear and hers. I will however be a little more careful to insure my survival after I am victorious. It would be a shame to win and be unable to live to enjoy it. Devith reasoned resting his head as Hekate scratched his eyeridges assured that her lifebond was unharmed.

"Need a hand up." Hekate finally asked turning back to Z'fer and offering her palm. "Do you think Calanoth would mind taking us back to shore?"

Climbing up onto Calanoth's back was easy for the bronzerider. Had he not been doing it for 8 turns? He shifted himself to sit properly on his dragon, even with no saddle the feeling of that warm hide beneath his legs was one of the best in the world. He'd never trade it for anything. "You're a tough little guy. I told her you'd be fine with Calanoth around." He gave Devith a firm slap on the shoulder with a wicked grin. So much for the silvers posturing and threats. Z'fer couldn't resist getting a veiled and good natured dig at the silver surprise. A nudge of his legs and a thought asked Calanoth to take them in to shore.

~ You'll be able to dive deeper eventually then we can have a re-match! ~ Calanoth thrummed with pleasure at the thought and the thanks from Hekate. Using his tail as a rudder he leisurely coasted his way back into shallow waters, laying down at the lakes edge to let them all climb off easily.

Z'fer slid to the ground and immediately removed his soaked shirt. he began undoing his belt...and thought better of it. Even though the leather was probably ruined by his swim it was doubtful Hekate would react well to seeing him in his skivvies just yet. "So was I right? Is he ok?" Z'fer tilted his head to the side as he began undoing his braid, shaking out the wet strands of hair to dry in the sun.

Hekate ignoring the slight to her offered hand instead concentrated on the slight to her dragon. The glare Devith gave Z'fer at his light slap to his shoulder could have withered plants she was sure of it. In fact the bronzerider should have considered himself lucky the little silver couldn't spontaneously combust the man with gaze alone. She could already feel the wheels in Devith's head turning plotting his eventual revenge. His help was apriciated. Devith rumbled in a tone that clearly stated that while the bronze's help indeed had been appreciated Z'fers presence was only barely tolerated. A fact that was only further emphasized as the little silver carefully hooked his claws into his rider's wet clothes so as to neither damage then, but also to make it rather clear he was not going anywhere. This two-legger was HIS. No one elses.

Hekate glanced from dragon to man with a sigh. She was completely surrounded with male ego's and found she rather missed Dizzian's excessive chattering. At least it was the chattering of another girl.

I can dive deeper now. . .I just have a little trouble with the ascension part. Devith corrected Calanoth, but his tone was light and as cheerful at the thought of another race. He did after all like to compete, it was a good way to show off his greatness.

Tucking the silver carefuly under one arm Hekate slid to the ground setting Devith beside her with care. It took a bit more self control then she would have liked to keep her eyes from lifting to roam the tanned damp expanse of Z'fers muscled chest. She would wait until she returned to the weyrling barracks before changing out of her own damp clothes. While she wasn't shy about showing skin she had no wish to give Z'fer or anyone else a free peep show. "Yes he's fine thanks to Calanoth." Hekate answered making it a dinstinct point to add once more how wonderful a job the BRONZE did over his rider. Like Z'fer really needed the boost to the ego anyway.

~ I will help you then! After I beat you of course. ~ Calanoth was developing a fondness for this spunky hatchling. He was even amused by the silver's bristling. Z'fer only spoke the truth. If Calanoth was around he'd take care of Devith. He wasn't going to let a hatchling hurt themselves! Calanoth stretched out, half on the sand, half in the water and laid his head down on his foreclaws,

Z'fer grinned. A compliment to the dragon was a compliment to the rider in his book. He drew close to her, while she turned away from the sight of him he admired how her wet clothing clung to her body. His hands grazed across her hips as he lowered his voice suggestively. "So, what may your bold saviors claim as their reward?"

Calanoth snorted at His. His eyes whirled blue and green even as he rubbed his nose against his forearm, scratching at the itching cuts. ~ Mine will be trouble for yours I think. ~ He commented privately to Devith.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 12, 2012 8:45 pm

We shall see who beats whom! Devith bugled to Calanoth from where he had settled himself in the sand his voice ripe with confidence. Even exhausted the little hatchling was not one to abandon a challenge. He would rest a moment here in the sand then see about getting His back to their weyr and getting the sand from his hide and a proper oiling. For now though he was too tired and while he was tempted to nudge his to carry him his pride would not allow himself to be seen in such a way by his new nemesis. That and he was quickly growing far too big for his to scoop up anymore. He already overflowed her lap the few times he would drape himself across Hekate for better oiling. Why by the time his sister got out of the healer's care he would have almost doubled in size if not trippled. A thought that brought great pleasure to the little silver. Soon he would be far too BIG for the Weyr to ignore and they would see him and his rider's glory.

At Calanoth's mention of Devith's nemesis he turned leveling a glare at Z'fer. How DARE he lay a single finger on His! Devith's anger though quickly turned to pride as he sensed his rider's thoughts.

He had best be prepared for a fight then for trouble comes in twos. The silver purred even as Hekate turned flashed Z'fer her most seductive smile and dug her fingernails into the crescents of the man's own nails in a rather painful finger hold prying the bronze rider's hand from her side with a move made deft with practice. "I think this damsel has had enough excitement for one day from her Bold Savior. But maybe if he plays his cards right she'll let him go~" Hekate replied her voice soft as velvet and sickly sweet coupled with that mischievous little smile of hers. Pausing for a moment though she added in "And possibly treat him to a cup of klah tomorrow morning if he's not busy rescuing someone else."

I do not envy yours Calanoth. She will give as good as she gets. I would choose her for nothing less. Devith said with a snort of laughter at the silly bronzerider's tactics his eyes whirling a merry green and blue at his rider's clever quip.

~ Oh? ~ He thrummed partially humoring Devith. Z'fer wasn't in any danger from the young woman. He was His! Z'fer was more than enough to handle anything she could throw at hi- ~ Mine! ~ Calanoth's head jerked up in shock as Z'fer cried out.

"Yeow! Shells woman!" Z'fer hissed in pain. His lips curled back as he tried to yank his hand back, only to be caught against her nails. His body bent to the side as if it would help only to leave him wincing as her nails dug into his skin. Who knew something as simple as that could hurt so much?! "Alrightalrightalright let go! Let Go! Klah in the morning then! Shards!" So much for composure.

Calanoth, realizing Z'fer was in no real danger, warily laid his head back down but kept an eye on the two of them. ~ I'd advise yours to be careful as well. Mine can only be pushed so far. He doesn't play well with others when he's angry. ~ Calanoth returned, little laughter in his voice now.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 12, 2012 11:17 pm

Do not worry. Mine is fond of yours despite his unorthodox methods of approaching her. Devith crooned reassuringly to Calanoth even as his rider released Z'fer.

Flexing her hand Hekate let go of Z'fer and offered him another one of her almost sickly sweet smile. "Klah in the morning then, sounds lovely." She added with a nod to the rather startled man her amber gold eyes glittering wickedly with unspoken laughter.

"I'm sure it'll be a pleasant way to begin the day." Hekate replied Devith rising from where he'd been sunning himself to take a seat beside her his eyes shining with mirth. The little silver practically radiated smug satisfaction at Z'fer's mistake.

The moment she let go he snatched his hand back, shaking it to the side before he caught her small smile. He coughed and placed his arm back at his side even though the beds of his nails were bright red. "I'm not so sure about that anymore..." Z'fer mumbled. Louder he added. "Yeah, sounds great." He shot a glare at Devith, sensing the dragon's smug attitude even without a bond.

He roughly pushed his hair back over his scalp, removing the long strands from his face and shaking them back down his shoulders. "I still need to scrub Calanoth down. We managed to get a little...distracted." Even with her most recent attack he wasn't deterred from trying to save face.

Calanoth made a noise of assent but still wasn't completely convinced. ~ Mine thinks of yours often, that is all I can say. ~ Opinions can change and he would need to talk to His alone before he allowed himself to get further attached to Devith.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 13, 2012 12:05 am

Devith as he sat there leaning into his rider's side felt a little torn. On one hand he very much liked Calanoth on the other hand he disliked his rider. He knew His was dealing with Z'fer's actions a little harsher then most, but not many were privy to the reasons. Still he would like to race the bronze again one day.

Mine wonders about yours. His tactics though amusing bring up bad feelings in her brought on from other two-leggers that have tried to touch Mine and were not as respectful. Devith added his voice unusually muted for the loud commanding hatchling almost as if he was a little worried Hekate might overhear and grow angry at his slip of her past.

But she was being distracted by the bronze's two-legger and the exchange went without notice. "Well perhaps next time I can help you better stay on track." She joked giving him a parting nod before dragon and rider turned with a wave and headed back to their weyr.

That Calanoth could understand at least. He gave Devith a knowing nod. Then he brightened up and half rose, rotating his shoulders. The bronze gave a bugled farewell as the two turned to leave. ~ I will talk to mine and we will swim again Devith! ~

Z'fer raised a parting hand as well and shook his head at himself. He picked up the discarded brush from where it had fallen. He took a moment to smack his forehead against the warm bronze hide and rest there. "Cal. What in the cold dark of between have I gotten myself into?"

~ Trouble. ~
