She stared at the little aphid snacks. They were apparently delicious ...
Well why not.
"Sure!" she said, reaching out to take one. It wriggled a little in her hand. Well that was cute. A lot of her favorite snacks wiggled- so it couldn't be all bad, right?
She optimistically popped it into her mouth and the promptly frowned.
Which grew into a gape.
Which grew into her spitting aphid all over Yin and then wiping her tongue of the remains.

It apparently took a fine connoisseur to appreciate the way that if you did not chew the aphids they wiggled all the way down to your belly. He realized this when Miss Danny...shared hers with him. He was slightly confused.
"Did you get a bad one? If it does not wiggle it might not be good."

"No it wiggled," she said, cringing still. "It just tasted horrible." She looked as Yin continued to chew one and ate it.
Now Danny was normally okay trying other foods. She wasn't picky and ate just about anything you threw on her plate as long as it wasn't liquid. That? That was horrible. She wouldn't even eat that if it was BURNT.
She shook her head and said, "I'll still with other stuff, okay?" She wasn't stressed out about it. It was just a food she didn't like, no big deal.
"Oh but, uh.... there was one other thing," she said sort of vaguely, not sure how to phrase it.

Well, if other students could not enjoy the fine delicacies that the bug world offered....he was not going to force them to eat them. Just because praying mantises were near the top of the bug food chain did not mean he wanted others to consider bugs as food. "So be it."
Really, he had relaxed quite a bit since she had come to visit. He was eating something, talking to someone, not fighting. He had found out Alexander was safe. When she brought up a new subject he was ready to listen. "Oh? What is it?"

Danny smiled and set the racecar down, and then wiggled her fingers, making the tiny grey emblem appear in her hands.
"I already gave mine to Amphi, but I figure we've been friends longer so ... can I give you my pin?" she said hopefully. Danny didn't know the stipulations behind pin-giving unfortunately. She just knew Yin was her friend, and that she'd happily die for him ... so it seemed to make sense to her.
She scratched her head awkwardly and said, "I mean we already kinda died once." She quietly looked down and added, "Or twice for you ... so ... yeah ..."

Oh. Great. Mantis. What was she...what no she could not be...
His eyes transfixed on the small emblem, everything that it meant washing over him. No, Miss Danny was just a friend. that was it. There was nothing else. She had chosen Rikki and he did not need to worry...wait. She had chosen Rikki. That helped to jolt him out of his musings, because he was fairly certain from personal experience that Rikki was not a ghoul. She was already bonded to a boil and therefore...well she just did not know what it meant.
"Miss Danny we have...been through a lot," it was hard to form words, and awkward, and he was looking away from her entirely now. "But...where I come from pins mean something...different. When you give someone your pin you are bonding to them...you are agreeing to be with them forever. You are with Rikki, and you have chosen him, so I cannot take your pin." Hopefully that made sense.
Yin might have forgotten who he was talking to.

Yes, Yin had forgotten who he was talking to entirely.
"But ... are you saying we're not gonna be friends forever and ever?" she said worriedly. "And what does Rikki had to do with this ..." She had all the confused.
Why would boils never take her pin?!
She looked down sort of sadly and said, "O-Oh. But ..."
Commence the look.

"Of course we will be friends," he hastily tried to assure her. "I mean...together like...Alexander and I. And like you and Rikki. More than uh...friends." Even now he was getting flustered talking about it out loud, his ears and neck heating up.

She still didn't get it. "So it means you wanna make someone your boilfriend?" She put a hand on her chin. Ace detective Danny had to figure this one out.
"So does that mean Amphi and Roch are dating me?! Ewww I don't want to date Roch!" she announced. Amphi she was fine with, but not Roch!

Danny had no sympathy for Yin's blush. People usually turned red around her from the heat- she was used to it. Unfortunately for Yin, the entire embarrassed, frustrated emotion went entirely unnoticed.
"But ... but you're here not where you come from. So it must take on the meaning from here!" Danny explained excitedly. She really thought she was a genius for finding this loophole. "So we don't hafta be boilfriend and ghoulfriend, we can just be friends, right? Right!"
She was already back and trying to shove her pin in the poor mantis boil's hand again.

Perhaps the real reason they got along was that Danny actually made sense to him. Her logic was frightening at times, but simplistic enough for the mantodae to understand. Or maybe it was because that while Alexander had taught him about what pins meant...he had never forcefully shoved his at Yin. Still, it was a step that was a bit extreme for the boil. Could he actually take a pin from just a friend? Did that mean that Alexander's pin meant anything different to him? He stared at it, confused, trying to block her hands as he thought. Her boil was being stupid. The crown princess was trying to give him a gift. She reached up to nudge at their hands before looking at Yin and giving him a scolding yip. "So...we should exchange pins as a sign of friendship?" he murmured. If she had his pin, and he hers, there was no real power to be exploited there. He freed one had and concentrated his Fear, left with his own brown and green badge. "You...you would really want this?"

Danny frowned as Yin summoned his own pin. She was shocked, but the way he was giving it away nonchalantly wasn't good either. They weren't just symbols of friendship- even Danny understood that.
"Well they are ... but it's like ... you gotta be willing to die for the person and stuff. It's not like you give them out to just anyone," she attempted to explain. "It's like um ... it's like showing people that you really, really care, but it's not like ... romantic-y love feelings ..."
That was the best she could do, okay? Danny wasn't a wordsmith. She had a hard enough time understanding his half as it was. "So I'm saying I would do that for you, but ... you should think about it before you give me yours! It's special, I guess ..." She'd been thinking about this pin since Christmastival practically. She knew she wanted to give hers to Yin, but she wanted to make sure Yin really wanted to give her his.

Yin had never given any thought to the idea of giving Miss Danny his pin. But he shook his head at her. "Miss Danny you are very important to me. I would do almost anything for you," he held up his left hand, reminding her of her mark.
"But... I would not want you to put yourself in danger because of me. I know you are strong Miss Danny, but I would be happier knowing that my friends are safe. Even if...even if it meant you needed to hurt me, or let me be hurt. But there is no question that I care for you. If these pins are to show our friendship I want you to have mine."
Because friendship is magic.

Danny smiled as Yin professed his undying love friendship. Yin and her, for whatever reason, always seemed to touch upon their feelings whenever they got together in a secluded place. Oddly enough, it worked well.
"Awwww Yin," she said, swiping the pin from the boil's hand and throwing it into her skull pouch to attach to her belt later. "I'll get hurt er whatever! 'Cause you're my friend!" she said, pulling him into a headlock and giving the poor mantis a noogie right in between his antennae.
Poor mantis boil had to go and pick this for a friend. GG Yin.
