As more of the beer is inhaled, Eluf feel it only natural and polite to take some more of his own... a rather large gulp, in hopes of a more significant amount aiding in his adapting to the flavor... unfortunately, it does not. Eyes closing to better stifle the want to wrinkle his nose, he manages to get it down, sighing softly once it's over. How did one get accustomed to such a drink? It wasn't near anything close to how wine was. But he'd never say such a thing before his company.

Macaire's voice causes the effeminate man to blink with surprise, shaking his head, and smiling with assurance, "I can tell you it is more than that. You mustn't belittle such grand work." a hand lifted to gently pat the larger mans bicep, in hopes of lifting his retreating spirits,"Be proud of what you've accomplished, hardly many in this world can even come close to such things." the waving of his compliments had Eluf chuckle softly. He only spoke the truth. And such things deserved nurturing and praise.

Taking his drink once more, one hand gently holding the handle, with the other poised daintily underneath the bottom for support, his gaze drifted down to the amber liquid, as it rippled and sloshed along the stone walls. He was quiet for a moment, pondering, before speaking again, "I can offer you some. I have more than enough back at my home." he peeks up, a more reserved smile on his face now, "It is not far from here. Quite a large estate, so hard to miss as well."

Ah, old gods' blessing! This is going to get him killed! He draws in a quick sharp breath when Eluf pats his arm, and sits up straighter than before, watching him. He's small and pretty, so full of goodness that it seems to spill over, making Macaire feel old and dirty, guilty of crimes he has not yet committed. A right shame it would be, to be cruel to him in any way -- to say naught of what that fiercely protective Guardian buck would have to say about it! But .. but .. he is so very delicate and pretty, so very willing to please, and it has been a very long time --

Squashing the thought as fast as he can think it, he latches onto Eluf's offer with only a small thrill of terror at the thought of 'a large estate.' Most estates would not take kindly to someone like himself lurking around, especially not as an escort for someone like sweet, well-dressed Eluf! "T'would be grand," he manages, trying to pretend that the compliments are not leaving him flushed, "but t'is late. Mayhap oi ought tae lead ye home, and have ye meet me another time, aye? His lairdship t'will be impatient fer ye." He nods his head towards the door, indicating the Guardian buck that presumably still waits outside.

The smile on the beaut's face was clear evidence of his delight in Macair's compliance. He'd never had anyone over before! Refraining from letting his excitement show too much, he calms himself a little more as the larger man goes on. Ah, he was right. It wouldn't be appropriate to ask him at such a late hour. Mother and father probably wouldn't be too pleased with it either. They wouldn't shoo him away, but... it might be an inconvenience to them. Smile softer now, he nodded in agreement, "In the morrow then. You do have lodgings for the night, yes?" there were plenty of nice inn's, and the like. Maybe... Eluf could do some drawing, painting, or listen to the other mans writings. Read a few. Ah, he was getting ahead of himself. It's best not to count ones eggs until they hatch, after all. Wouldn't want to take up the burly man's precious time.

Placing his mug down, he folded small hands neatly into his lap once more, assuming a more appropriate posture, "Is there a particular time that you are free? I can send a carriage for you, or come and pick you up myself, if you so desire. What ever is easiest for you." it was always polite to extend options to ones guests.

He is going to die. Surely, sooner rather than later he's going to die, at which point he will be taken to task for the immoral thoughts that trouble him now. A carriage? He's never in his life ridden in one! He should have taken a closer look at the boy's clothes .. oh small gods pity him, he's been flirting with a noble son! If Eluf's parents don't kill him, then the local guardsmen surely will! His station is low enough that he shouldn't be talking to Eluf in the first place, much less .. He goes red, then white, then flushes again, feeling slightly ill about the entire encounter -- on the one hand, he should return Eluf to his home and never speak to him, or think of him, again. On the other hand, does he really want to deny the lad anything? Is he even capable of refusing Eluf? Would it even be possible not to think of him?

"Aye," he croaks, thinking of his simple flat in comparison with the grander home in which the youth must live. "Leave off me duties 'bout the time oi found ye: jest afore sunset." Then he swallows, trying to control his expression best he can manage. "Jest as soon not ride inna carriage, me lad. T'would be better far tae find ye where e'er it please ye tae be."

It was relieving to hear the response given, setting a bit of peace in the boy's mind. So he had somewhere to stay for the night. Good. It could often be difficult to find rooms last minute; or so his parents told him from their own travels as youngsters. He wanted to travel some day...

Macaire's following response didn't hold the same effect, and more so brought upon sympathy from Eluf, evident in his delicate brows drawing together slightly. Macaire really wouldn't be able to get to the art store then, if his work ended at such a time commonly. How unfortunate. But, that was no matter. He'd supply the other man with what ever he was in need of! An artist of his caliber should not be starved of what he is meant to do! What his soul craves! Feeling a bit... passionate, something quite rare for the lithe man on in such random settings, his features seemed to light up, "Alright then. How about we meet at the edge of town, the one just south east of town." now.. it was his turn to blush, eyes lowering to his lap bashfully as he felt the prickle of warmth on his fair cheeks, "I can bring some of my pieces to show you, so that you may critic me, so that I am to grow." his fingers fiddle lightly with one another, a soft embarrassed chuckle rising from him briefly, "I'.. would be greatly appreciative, if you would." his eyes lifted to dare a peek at his company, hopeful that he was not being too bold or brazen with his request.

It is all that Macaire can do not to stare at Eluf, aghast: is he .. is he blushing? No! Anything but that! With a sinking heart, the old soldier knows that he is doomed: strong though some may consider him, he isn't capable of refusing Eluf when he gazes up through his lashes like that! Surely it's Macaire's own fault, to have a heart what squeezes like the poor lad's a bashful maiden! The thought that he might avoid meeting Eluf slips away, discarded without further consideration.

"Aye," he croaks, "T'would be an honour tae serve ye any way oi can." He swallows, and prays the old gods will not chase him down for this small half-lie. 'Honor' is not precisely the correct idea, but it's close enough, right? Hurriedly, he tips back the last of his mug, then pushes the empty mug aside -- and pushes away from the table, eying the crowd and perhaps trying to decide if he ought to lift Eluf over it again, in the interests of getting him out of the tavern safely and quickly.

Again he was met with that wave of relief with Macaire's agreement, smile curling happily on his pretty face. It'd be nice to spend some time with someone with similar interests as him! Bell was nice, but... she was rather ditsy, and it made it hard to really explain to her his own passions and interests. But she was still a good friend. Like a sister he never had! "I thank you deeply, Macaire." he replied happily.

With the older man finishing his drink, Eluf followed suit, but took a great deal longer.. needing a few breaks to get all of the liquid down smoothly. But he manged, and placed down the mug carefully, before reaching into an interior pocket to take out a fancy little coinpurse. It was a beautiful plum purple, with gold lining. Inside he pulled out a few coins, and placed them on the table... giving a very generous tip as well. Their waiter sashayed her way back over, the large man receiving another flirtatious expression, before she came to sweep up their finished mugs... eyes widening at the payment that'd been given. With a playful curtsy, she was off on her way coin in tow.

Looking to Macaire, his guide for the night, Eluf waited for his lead, sparing a glance to a few men that were laughing jauntily. "Shall we?" There were hardly any new members that'd entered the pub since they had, but the place was pretty crowded as is. Hopefully Axe was behaving himself outside...

Once more the old soldier, now even more greatly conflicted, has to resist temptation -- this time the temptation is to tuck Eluf under one arm and bolt for the exit before half the pickpockets in the city descend upon them. What was he thinking, bringing a pretty little lad like this here? Was he absolutely mad? He swallows, despite the full mug of beer feeling rather dry-mouthed. "Oh, aye, let's away afore 'tis too late." Too late for what he does not say.

After a moment's hesitation, he steps around the table, setting his hands to Eluf's waist and lifting him up so that the smaller man rests on his shoulder, pressing Eluf's legs against his chest to balance him. With Eluf thus held out of reach from pickpockets, he carries the youth out of the crowded tavern, ducking through the door and only outside setting him onto his own feet. He shall immediately look for the Guardian, looming protectively over Eluf until such time as the buck steps forward -- and leaning back as soon as he has been spotted, aware now why the Guardian had been so intensely protective of the lad.

For the second time, as he was lifted, Eluf was met with an insane amount of flusterment, a silent gasp catching in his throat as he was manhandled again. Usually fair cheeks were brimming with heat and colour, making the boy keep his eyes downcast to avoid the onlookers who rose curious brows as they exited. A slender arm rested around the back of Macaire's head, a hand idly petting the hair atop only three times. He wasn't quite sure of the other man's reasoning for such a way of transporting, but... he wouldn't question it. Especially when it made his stomach flutter like it did.

Once he was back on the ground, the lithe man let a few of his fingers pet his silky, curly ponytail, letting it rest back onto his shoulder, a soft "thank you.." murmured to Macaire for his protective efforts. But... once they were outside, Eluf's gaze was on the irritated, but silent crowd that was outside. Eyes widening in surprise, his answer for the source was given when looking to Axe, who was standing in the way of many wanting to enter the pub. His intense glare kept them at bay, but they didn't protest, as... there wasn't much they could do against such a powerful standing buck. Shocked, Eluf quickly took to his guardian's side, petting his dark hide, "Axe, you mustn't keep others from entering the pub. It is not polite." the majority were large, gruff men, who could pose a threat to the delicate little human.

Axe snorted firmly, eyes sliding over to his companion. He stared for a good long while, inspecting him thoroughly to make sure there were no signs of harm, before looking up to Macaire with a critical gaze. After a moment, he finally stepped back to allow others to resume entering the bar. Sighing softly with relief, Eluf said a few apologies to those now able to go and quench their thirst, letting his eyes settle on Macaire last. But he looked down meekly, gravely embarrassed by the scene, "I do hope I've not angered them." Axe seemed undisturbed by the clear disgruntled individuals, and slightly more at ease with Eluf by his side again. But the buck was ready to go... and thus turned to aim for where their home was.

Composing himself, as best he could, Eluf let a gentle smile rest on his soft features, "My home is just down this way." looking back up to his new friend, he turned to face Axe's initiated path.

It's probably for the best that Eluf doesn't know that Macaire's heart feels a little squeezed at the gentle pats of his hair -- and by the time he gets outside, after he's put the youth down he has to drag in several deep gulps of fresh air, reminding himself that it's best to breathe. He resolves to visit some of the seedier areas of town at once: apparently it has been far, far too long! Eluf surely neither wants nor deserves this!

Macaire to a certain extent shares the Guardian's opinion, looking largely unbothered by the grumpy would-be patrons: Eluf may in fact catch the taller man staring pointedly at the other men, his glare daring them to make some protest regarding the delay. Even those who might have been willing to lodge a complaint with the Guardian will hesitate to face off against Macaire -- tall, well-muscled, and with the reddish Aireland tint to his hair that bespeaks trouble all on its own. When Eluf speaks again, the soldier drags his attention back, and gestures for Eluf to proceed before him. "Nay, lad. You needn't warry none. T'ain't nae harm done. Go ain, 'twill walk with ye 'till oi see ye safe."

He shoots Axe a look as he makes this offer, hoping the Guardian will permit it; he means no harm by it, no malice. In fact, quite the opposite! He knows by now that Axe must be an effective protector, else something would have happened to Eluf before now, but two can protect better than one, and it's his own fault for leading this lamb in amongst the lions.

Such a kind, and warm soul, Macaire was... It made Eluf feel rather at ease. He always had to be so strictly poised, and proper, but... it was nice to be familiar with someone. He had to restrain the excitement from the man's compliance to continue on with him for just a little longer. Nodding, he went on to lead the way. Axe held back a little while, staring at Macaire, sizing him up once more. But seeing as the man had returned with his chosen in one piece, the stag merely turned and followed after the boy, taking a leading position in front of him; giving space for the humans.

Somewhat surprised to see the deer's less confronting stance, Eluf smiled more, looking back at Macaire, "I think he's starting to like you." a soft, melodic chuckle rose from him in turn. Axe gave no response on the subject, keeping diligently alert ahead, spotting and taking note to any sort of unpleasant characters. It was with this space that the boy paid his attention to his new company, "I thank you for the visit to the pub. It was quite an experience." he smiled a little more, "Hopefully I shall become more acquainted with the drink of beer." after all, if so many could stomach it with such ease, surely he could as well?

He's such a horrible, cruel soul, to think these thoughts about the innocent young man. It gives him a sinking feeling in his stomach, to think how difficult is to restrain himself from saying or doing something both of them would surely regret. All he has to do is continue on with him for just a little longer, and then he can leave Eluf in the care of those better able to protect him from people like .. well, Macaire himself!

The taller man paces carefully beside Eluf, his eyes glancing this way and that in search of danger -- though when Eluf speaks, the sound of his voice pulls Macaire's gaze back down towards him. He makes a strangled little noise that is probably a laugh at the thought that the Guardian could be fond of him: oh, ill-advised, ill-advised! "Oh, would wager 'tis that oi ain't caused ye nae harm yet. His lairdship dain't look like one who trusts easy, oi think."

There was a group of rugged looking gents crowded ahead of them, to which Axe gave a firm, and loud snort, causing their attention to drift towards the proud buck. Those golden eyes stared sharply down at the group, causing a few to challenge it, but mostly they just moved out the way. With the path cleared, Axe waited for the two humans he was guiding to catch up, intently watching them to pass the threshold he'd created.

not giving the cluster any mind, Eluf was far too focused on his company to care. He chuckled again, lacing his fingers together to fiddle in an idle manner, "You would be correct on that. There's very few he trusts to be in my company. But.." looking ahead as they walked by the scowling men, giving a few nods to them in greeting, the boy let his lidded gaze rest on his attentive guardian, "It's not often he allows someone I've just met to walk beside me without him on the other side." he pauses, chuckling again, "Or between us." looking up to the large man, admiring him once more for all that he entailed, a mix of awe and a hint of a dreamy expression softened on his face, "I think I can easily say that you are quite pleasant company to have, Macaire." This giddy feeling was new and rather exciting. Axe resumed his march forward once the two caught up, staring down a man who was stepping past him... refusing to break eye contact, or bat an eye.

Macaire finds himself thinking idly how easy it would be to convince Eluf to come back to his flat and stay the night -- he could make some excuse about how it was closer, or how that way they'd be able to talk about writing, and then --

-- he swallows, and deliberately turns his thoughts to other things. It's difficult to do, when the younger man is looking up at him with wonder, so he tries focusing on Axe's rump as a way of cooling his overheated train of thought. That way lies madness! Better to think about which house he'll visit after this, and wonder how much coin it'll take to find a lady willing to help him chase all these unkind thoughts away!

"Yer tae kind, lad. Been a roight pleasure meetin' ye." And if his voice is a little hoarse, hopefully Eluf won't notice. Something seems to occur to him then, and he looks sidelong at Eluf again, wincing internally at his expression. Why did he have to be so .. so .. enticing? "Ye won't face nae trouble, returnin' saw late?"

His gaze took to the sky as it began to coat itself in it's dark cloak, eager for the new day to finally come. He finally had something to really look forward to! A woman with her young son passed by them, Axe not giving them too much attention due to how much the lady was doting on her complaining child, scolding him lightly, causing him to whine annoyingly. But Eluf paid them no mind...

Like Macaire, he was chiding himself internally for getting so delighted over having new company, and... plans! When was the last time he got to speak with someone so fascinating and well versed? The man's physique couldn't he overlooked either.. flustered slightly by his own train of thought, he was thankful for the question, smiling gently, "Oh no, not at all. I am grown, after all. I'm free to my own devices." he teased lightly, "My family just needs a little help with the business until they can find new employee's." he paused for a moment, looking around them in an idle searching manner, "Hopefully I shall find a place of my own within the next few months."
