"Well, no harm in trying to find him. Let's see.. what is he? If you know his race, perhaps you can narrow down what Dorm he at least lives in." It wouldn't narrow it down by much, but there were other ways.

"Once you know that, check the student roster for that dorm for a Neil. Maybe something will turn up." Maybe that was like stalking? But hey, it beat waiting around to run into them.

"It's a good thing you have one now at least. It comes in handy."

"Oh, he's a Monster. I met him outside his dorms, at the dumpsters," she told Mot. "Just because I miss hanging out with him does not mean I need to go find him," Amarus added, tilting her head and smiling at him.

It seemed like, at least, this had distracted Mot. "What will you be doing with Lizzy this weekend? Something fun, I hope?" Amarus tucked her legs up on the bench again and wrapped her arms around them, hugging them close, scratching Jin's head lightly with her free hand and smiling at her wyvling. He wasn't cuddly like Ashbel or FooFoo, it was true, but he was ... a lot more suitable for the Lotus Eater. He was very dear to her.

"I always liked creatures and plants... they seem to expect less of me," she murmurred. "Low expectations with me... are good. No disappointment."

"You don't need to, no.." Mot scratched his cheek and slid his gaze elsewhere.

"Oh, we're going to dig up old files on her father. He died a long time ago, and she wants to find out about him some more. Kind of like solving a mystery. It's important to her, and despite the nature of it, it may be fun." Her father was a Boogeyman when he died, which interested Mot. Digging up old facts sounded like a way to get to know the job.

His brows furrowed, glancing at the Lotus Eater curiously. "They're good for that, yeah.." He wasn't so sure how to respond. Disappointment was a constant theme in his life, yet he never knew how to deal with it other than run away.

Perhaps Mot was right in his approach, that she could solve her problem and go find him. It had just never been an issue. Amarus didn't have a skellyphone before recently for a reason; she just sort of wandered around and saw whoever, and if someone wanted to see her, they'd either have to find her or wait until she found them. And she liked it that way. Recently she had decided it would be nice to make plans and, you know, see her friends again.

"Oh...? I can see why she would want to learn more about her father... It is nice to know about one's past, I think," Amarus said, softly. She looked down at her knees, and stopped petting Jin for a moment. That was one of the other things that had always gotten her down: she would never know who she had been, who she'd known, if anyone had missed her, if she had been a villain or a hero. Or had she been anything before? A spirit was a spirit, after all. "It sounds right up your alley, this detective hunt for Lizzy's past," Amarus added, once she found her voice again.

She hadn't meant to make things weird, if she had, by saying that plants and creatures couldn't be disappointed by her. What was this mood she was in, anyway? She'd been fine earlier. Amarus shook her head, and took a deep, unnecessary breath: calm. Time to calm down. When she looked up again, she felt significantly better. Useful trick. "Well, Mot, I think this is the longest time I have sat still. Ever."

"I suppose it is." He looked the ghost over, noting her difference in appearance on the topic. "But you should never let the past determine your future. I think the present does a good enough job of that." Whether her past was good, bad or non-existant, Nothing can change what has already happened.

"Then perhaps we should get moving." Mot replied, getting off the bench and standing to his full height. "I need to try and get some sleep before I leave. Or.. try to." He chuckled. Likely he wouldn't but it was best to try anyway.

Mot let FooFoo down from his grasp, allowing the little guy to lead the way back.

Amarus didn't look at Mot as he was registering her change in appearance. Just stared off at some invisible point of interest. Something about what he said seemed to startle her; mostly, because it was... exactly the right thing to say. She didn't have a past, but.. if she behaved as though the present shaped her, instead of the past, maybe things would get better? She wouldn't have to spend so much time being sad about having no family, and no memories. "So if the present determines my future... hmm..." Amarus smiled at Mot. She felt a very distinct sense of hope well up within her.

"Moving sounds amazing. Yeah, you really should try to sleep... I can't believe how resistent you are to sleepiness, to be honest, Mot," Amarus shook her head. "It's like you're immune to me!" she gave him a wry smile, and then winked at Mot.

As FooFoo started to lead the way back, Amarus paused briefly and then stood up as well, quite a lot shorter than Mot. She reached out suddenly and attempted an awkward hug, mostly standing behind him or off to the side, pausing with her face against some part of him before letting go suddenly and grabbing her books, Jin re-curling around her neck. "That was for the hope," she told him.

"Let's make your immediate present awesome. Well, as awesome as it will get when you stubbornly refuse to sleep and you are like a lanky, sad storm cloud of a man," Amarus admitted. Probably making it worse, Mar, thanks.

Something seemed to change. Amarus didn't seem as lost and down as she had been. Like she felt she had a goal or something.

Mot laughed, finding it amusing he was immune to something. He was caught off guard with the hug, unable to hug back since she pulled away almost as quickly. The hope? Oh.. so his words had helped. "Don't get caught up in what you don't have, and keep your attention on what you do have." Mot offered, trying to give her a little extra hope.

Mot laughed softly at her parting words, nodding heavily. "Right. I promise to make an attempt at sleep. Worry not." He gave the ghoul a few pats on the head, and turned to make his way home.
