((I'm cool with nicknames. But guys....Where are you getting this tray from? Also, Brom and Summi are in the Gardens now while you all are still in the ball room. =3= Stealing Summi's pastries, shame on you all. =3=))
Summanus sighed as the others had noticed him and stolen some of HIS pastries before he could sneak off with his brother. He was going to need to be a better sneak if he was ever going to get away from them with food. He shrugged it off as he lead his brother through the dying garden.
Wilted, dead, roses covered a majority of the gardens now. Dream sand becoming harder and harder to harvest. He stopped before a bush and gently reached out to touch a wilted, white, rose, only to have to crumble into dust at the moment of contact. He hissed as he quickly withdrew his hand. His roses were dying....And so was his kingdom....

"Well that was a bit harsh of a reaction...Glue.", Caliban rubbed his shoulders with a bit of a smirk and yet there was this persistent ngging that perhaps Brom was not but merely making a jest. "How I manage to get myself into such sticky situtions I never will know."
Following Brom a bit cautiously he watched as he joined his brother and as always the man seemed to be as bitter as a lemon. Shaking his head with a weary sigh he smiled a bit recalling how at least Brom had mentioned with the noise he could not sleep and if one could not sleep they would not dream. Dreams lately were hardly anything but pleasant, and had he the time he would have admitted to Brom he had not slept all that well.
"I wonder how he plans to get back at me however.", he mused rubbing his chin with a chuckle. "I suppose I shall have to be all the more careful around the fellow. But he seems even moodier than usual...I had hoped that duck would have at least kept him a bit preocupied with things other than the dire situation at hand. But alas, it seems I may have failed in that regard."
Shrugging his shoulder he proceeded to pull silken shawls from his sleeves in what seemed a nearly infinite line neatly tied together. Then gathering them all up into his hands he went to toss them into the air. But the results to follow were not what he had planned at all. Usually before the scarves could near the ground they erupted in a flurry of butterflys, a rather impressive and prismatic array of colors. This time they simply landed and draped themselves limply about him. Worriedly and somewhat embarassed he proceeded to gather them up once more. With there being less dream sand and magic and what not it was becoming all the more difficult for Caliban to create illusions and the like he had so easily once managed. Looking to Mayura and her worried demeanor he frowned a bit (thankfully besides the taught line of his mouth to be concealed behind his mask), before smiling warmly to her.
"Do not fret over me and Brom, Mayura. Its how he shows his affection I believe.", he finished tucking the last shawl back into his sleeves and straightened them before looking back to her. "He's quite fun to pick on but often at a price. Keeps me on my toes...or so to say anyways."
Looking to the Queen he rested his chin in his hand,"So tell me my Queen how might I be of service to you this day? I imagine there is still much to do in order to prepare for the festivities. And while I would love to pester Brom to submission his reactions are a bit lacking, wouldn't you say? But I am terribly excited to find out how he plans to get back at me." More like scared senseless really., he thought images of being boiled into glue making his tail flick about nervously.

Brom followed his brother as they walked further into the garden. He watched as the rose Summi touched fell to pieces and felt a knot of cold fear at the look on his brother's face. He loved his brother and trusted him. He stepped closer to his brother's shoulder and awkwardly cleared his throat, "Is there anything I can do?" He asked uncertainly "I don't have much magic and what I do have is better suited to killing people or blowing up things but if there is something I can do, you will tell me?
Brom thought of something and smirked, perhaps blowing something up would be a good way to get back at Cal. His expression sobered and he asked his brother "What do you need me to do?"

"I figured it was you with the duck," Lunae said with a smirk. She turned her head briefly and watched as her husband and Brom walked off together. It always made her a little anxious whenever she saw them like that. When two tough men look worried, well, there's usually something bigger than what she could control at play.
Turning back to Caliban, she continued. "To be honest, I'm not sure what to do. You and the others can join me for a walked around the castle walls. I saw some disturbing images in the Hall of Mirrors, and I'm wondering just how close the ice crystals are getting. I can't help but wonder if they're hiding something that we need."

Summi looked over his shoulder at Brom as he wiped his hand on his trousers. His face was grim and riddled with sadness. "Honestly brother, if I knew what to do, or even where to start, I would have said or done so already." He sighed turned from the roses to continue walking down to the garden paths, knowing full well his brother would continue to follow suit.
He didn't dare touch another rose. He wouldn't chance turning the whole garden into the deathly dust that had become of the one he had. Everyone that existed in the Dream Worlds depended on the sand that wasn't sand. They we getting weaker by the day, some even disappearing completely from existence. "I'm afraid, that for once, your sword and my magic aren't enough this time to save us. Not even our selves dear brother."
They came to the center of the garden, a beautiful place where the death had not reached yet. Flowers bloomed and a special fountain filled the space, dead center in the middle, that irrigated the entire gardens with it's magical properties. However the sands/magic that had previously flowed so generously before, was nothing more then a steady glug that continued to plop out of the spouts.
Four gazebo's sat in each corner of the space, all facing the fountain and covered in roses. Many times, during their happier days when he and his Queen hosted grandeur balls, many couples could be heard and seen in here. Giggling, cooing and the ever so faint gasp of excitement. Now there was to be a Ball again soon. Though under such dire circumstances, he could not see any such merriment happening again.
He sighed as he climbed up into one of the gazebos and sat upon the cushioned seats. He placed the few pastries left, leaving the teacup in his hand, down beside him, knowing Brom would sit across from him to eat and talk. He sipped the now cold tea, frowning slightly and knowing full well that he couldn't simply make it hot again with his magic like before. "So tell me what concerns you have for this Ball dear brother. Other then security."

Brom followed his brother further into the garden, a worried expression on his face. He entered the gazebo and sat opposite to his brother, glancing down the pastry, but he had lost his appetite. He watched his brother sip his tea and sighed at his question.
"Well first of all brother, you know I always hate it when you have parties." He smiled "Too many idiots running around causing mischief and security is always a concern for me. I may also be jealous because while I am corralling the morons and keeping people from going where they shouldn't you are snuggling your queen and eating good food." He grinned "One day I would like to find a cute little thing to snuggle with in the garden."
He frowned and leaned forward towards his brother "But more so I am worried what impact all these guests will have on our fragile world." He quickly held up a hand "Don't get me wrong, I understand the necessity of it. I just fear the havoc they could wreak, especially when we do not truly know what is going on." He sat back against the bench and waited to hear his brothers reply to his doubts.

((I have one quick comment which won't really apply once the ball starts. Remember that in the main plot, the king and queen go to the waking world to host the ball. There, the Sandman (now Glass Lady), enters and makes everyone go to sleep, thus entering the dream worlds. The king and queen couldn't and wouldn't force the guests into their world, but they are more than happy to take advantage of the situation, as are the hosts of other rooms.))

Giselle decided to take the queen's advice and join her for a walk around the castle walls. Maybe leaving the books behind for a while would clear her head.
"I'll come with you, Your Majesty," she said as she fell into step behind Lunae. "I've been looking at my spell books for so long that all the words on the pages are beginning to run together. Maybe being away from the library will do me some good, even if there are reminders everywhere of the dire situation we're in. Perhaps a walk and a different task will give me a new perspective."
Really, Giselle didn't know what good a walk around the castle walls would do, but she knew she needed a break from studying. When she was trying to solve a difficult problem, stepping away from her books usually gave her mind time to process what she already knew and turn the problem over carefully to look for new angles. She felt guilty because just pacing around thinking wouldn't get anything accomplished, but working on something else for a while was sometimes all one could do, and doing different tasks often provided answers to the problem at hand.

always at the queen's side, mayura also fell into step beside her queen, tugging at her braided-back hair as she did whenever she was thinking or nervous

((Sorry I didn't post sooner. I was at the beach.))
Lunae was delighted to see Giselle and Mayura following her. It was bound to be a fun experience only having the female members of her court with her. Plus, having a party only of women meant that the intelligence level of the group was much higher than it might have been otherwise; at least, that's the way the queen saw it.
As soon as they were all out of earshot of the men, Lunae asked her friends, "Is it just me, or does my husband seem to be acting a bit strange as of late?"

mayura jumped. "w-w-well..." she stammered. even though she was loyal only to the queen, never taking orders from anyone else unless the situation demanded it, she could never say ill of anyone else, especially the king "w-well... he... he's been a lot more pastries lately..." she said in a whisper
