Okay, he had a point there. Eating them would be more like flooding yourself with a mass of scareflies all in one gulp. Don't think that way'll do much good if they're goin' straight ta'my belly.
Tapping a claw on her chin, the ghoul thought more on this. If we squish 'em, we'd glow? Maybe? If this was the case, they wouldn't need to consume or keep the flies in their mouths so much as crush them all as they came out.

"But you could try eating one anyway. Noland did say to take it with you. Technically that would still be.. taking it with," Shun noted before carefully feeling around for another tree.
"We'll try crushing one as well. Just to give it a shot," he said.
"Get ready."

Just one. Don't want none'a them swimmin' 'round in 'ere. Catching them still seemed plausible; holding was not. With clenched down teeth, it would be like trapping them in the most old school of ways. Right back to when critters wrangled their food good before cooking; or so she heard.
Alrighty. Go fer it.
When the reaper boil unleashed another bright stream of the scareflies, the tatzel quickly clamped a claw around what she could and shoved the contents of her hand in her mouth.

Once the scareflies were scattered, Shun just started to try and clap his hands forcefully around any he saw in an attempt to squash one or two while Levi worked to try and eat one.

It wasn't hard to catch a scarefly and immediately eat it. Levi succeeded easily, but the feeling of a scarefly trying to claw it's way back up her esophagus was..
..unpleasant.
Shun, on the other hand, managed to smear several scareflies, which only frightened them off faster. Their glow remained on the trees for a few moments, but it was clear that it would not last - nor would it be enough light to fit their purpose.
If Shun looked at Levi, he would see nothing. No, there she was. No, she was gone again. No wait- there she was!
Levi's stomach was alternately glowing as the scarefly buzzed about inside angrily. She disappeared and reappeared, in a way that might remind them of their mentor's random appearances, if they thought about it.
"Good job! I bet it was delicious." Noland complimented Levi as it rose up from the ground, where it had been lying flat the entire time. It, too, grabbed a scarefly and shoved it into the giant maw of it's stomach. And now, it glowed every so often.
"Levi, you get two wonderful points from me for figuring out how to keep your light." He took out his book and started to write in it. "Shun, you get nothing for being such a wuss."
Snapping the book shut, the disappearing and reappearing Noland started to walk off. But at least this time, they could see him enough to follow. "Let's go, children, we've got a lot of work to do today!"

Ugh. That just left scarefly guts all over his hands. Grimacing, he just wiped his hands off then looked to Levi as the bug was glowing in her stomach now and then. Huh.
Though, Shun soon twitched and glared at Noland.
"I am not a wuss," he hissed before glancing to Levi. He just preferred his food dead. Looking a little agitated now, he just moved on to follow the hungry ghost as he placed his jacket back on.
He had to wonder why they were doing this right now.

It was a hard one to get down, that was for sure. Given her venom glands, Levi worried that the tiny scratches of the bug would result in an unwanted release of the poisonous veil. It seemed she was slowly getting better at keeping it in since, well, nothing came back out. Her lips remained tightly closed just in case with a hand stroking at her neck, trying to get that tiny bugger down there.
Once it was- she lit up. Jack dang. She'd become like a scarefly herself with an illuminated gut that went on and off and on again. Levi fought the temptation to jab herself in the stomach to make it stay lit, her eyes dilating and contracting to adjust to the brightness and darkness. Alas- that was not going to be such a good idea, she reasoned. That might kill the critter off leaving them back where they'd started.
So 'long as it ain't thinkin' a' comin' back out tha'same way! She chuckled, rather humored that their mentor too now flickered as well. Truly, there was something to learn here; how is he able to stick to the floor like that? That was some sort of stealthily invisibility.
Admittedly, she worried a bit at the points. Rewards in classes sometimes had a backfiring effect. Nonetheless, she grinned, proceeding to appear eager to explore this lesson. It was when she looked over at Shun while following that the tatzel took on a puzzled expression. Shun, ain't gonna try'it too? For good measure, she pointed at her own stomach to illustrate her inquiry.

"Might as well if I get the chance," Shun grumbled. Granted, he felt it was a little counter intuitive to glow like that when trying to sneak around. What was the reasoning behind it? While he figured it might be good to get to the task, he also did not want to get left behind trying to catch another scarefly like that.
He just shoved his hands into his pockets and followed along.
"Any idea what he has in mind?" he asked in a lower tone.

Levi hadn't considered all that much what Noland was really going to make of all this. Welp, we dun a sort'a puzzle thing. Maybe there's some thinkin'? She paused, just walking forward, hearing the tiny crackles of her steps.
Thinkin' that leads ta'... umm... They'd joined Noland with sneaking in mind, right? Surely this was the case for Shun too as he avidly joined classes dealing in similar subject matter as Levi for sneaking purposes. sneakin', I'd reckon.
But- glowin's got some part'in'it? Maybe. Only she and their mentor glew. What did this mean for Shun? What did it mean for them both? It was true, she now realized, that ideal conditions for not being seen always meant darkness. It's why she shrouded in black like her kin to perform trickery at night. To not be seen meant just that, right? Levi failed to compute how this was done. Guess they'know how. There wasn't much known prior to this session about Noland, but if this really was something to be learned, to glow and still not be seen, it would be a mighty useful skill indeed. Perplexingly to figure out- but useful. Whaddaya'think 'bout it so far? Shun might have a more understanding take on things. He talked like he had a much more level head for things.

"Glowing seems counter intuitive for sneaking," Shun said plainly. Especially in a dark area. Generally, that would attract attention to oneself rather than avert it. That was, unless there was something else to it. He supposed it was possible that there was some creature that had trouble seeing things with a scarefly's glow. There have been stranger things in Halloween.
"I'm not sure. Our tasks so far have been a little unorthodox and I am not certain where this is leading to be honest. We'll find out in due time."
Hopefully.

In due time came sooner than they might have expected. The silent walking through the forest found them entering darker territory, and still darker, even though they had just come from the darkest part of the forest. It was clear, then, that they were no longer in the forest. Just where the might be was a mystery that they would have to solve on their own time - Noland had much more important tasks for them.
"Lovely." The voice suddenly rang out from in front of them - when had they lost sight of the ghost? Or their surroundings? Come to think of it, why couldn't they even see the floor where their own feet stood?! The only viewable sight was the soft glow from Levi's stomach, that illuminated her and Shun's bodies.
And nothing else.
"I see you've noticed we've arrived. Good, good! Today's lesson will be rather simple, I'm afraid. I can't go around giving you all of my best secrets on our first day, can I? But this one is simple. If you want to learn how to be stealthier, you're going to have to learn how to use the senses that do not involve your eyes. You've already learned that lesson a bit earlier, did you not? And you've managed to gain a little bonus that will help you in your lesson today."
He paused, and scoffed quietly. "Well, Levi has at least."
Something brushed against Levi's arm. The light did not illuminate the culprit, but the lack of illumination was illuminating enough nonetheless. The darkness on her arm told it's own tale.
"All right, little ones. Are you ready to begin?"

I reckon so. Nodding along in agreement to Shun's words, Levi missed the fact that they'd officially lost Noland's form in front of them. Peering around into the nothingness that was the void of darkness enveloping them once more, Levi listened to their mentors words.
As Noland mentioned her learning so far, Levi did indeed take a glance over to something the small illuminations of her belly homed in on through the black; Shun. No sooner that she calmed in seeing his form did something brush up against her arm that she couldn't see. Against the lightness of her body, all the tatzel could tell was that she was touched. Levi just have no idea by what. Wide-eyed, the ghoul held her arm out at her side, trying to get a better look at was was/was not there.
Jack'in'a'beansprout! What's-... Shun-... Do you see it too? Levi didn't say it out loud, but her tone inquired; could Shun see/not see what she was seeing/not seeing?
Was she ready to go? M'ready! For whatever it was that seemed to want to greet her so closely.

Shun really wasn't sure where they were now. It didn't help that they couldn't see much of anything around them. All he could see was Levi and himself. Nothing else was visible. He looked around, but it wasn't of much use. In any case, he turned his attention to focus on Noland, frowning at that scoff of his. This was fine with him. It just meant it was more of a challenge, which he was perfectly fine with.
"...What?" he said with a frown. The way she jumped just now did not quite bode well. He didn't see or hear anything in the area so that didn't help with the feeling right now.
"Ready," he murmured after spending a moment of trying to figure out what had spooked Levi. He was kind of ready for a potential fight if that was what it came down to.

"Oh, oh, good! So glad to hear it. Well, your task is simple. Meander through and try to find your way out of this area using all of your senses except sight. Levi, of course, has a teeeny bit of an advantage now that she can see things directly around her. Trust me, it's still hard!"
The darkness on Levi's arm looked like it was caressing her up and down - it felt like it, too.
In this place there are several obstacles. I won't tell you what they are, but they're very basic obstacles. Nothing too fancy - like I said, this is your first day! If you manage to find a way out, without dissipating, you will receive a little something from me! If you dissipate.. well.. perhaps next time, hmm?"
The dark, caressing blackness disappeared from Levi's arm. "And remember.. whatever is inside of here is using stealth to keep itself hidden from you. Perhaps you should learn from them, as well?"
Them?
That didn't sound good. -The two of you must wander through the darkness, virtually blind, and make your way out of it - without getting killed. Choose a direction, and move 3 steps forward. Levi may move 4 steps if she wishes, but she doesn't have to. You are only required to make three steps, if you want to be cautious. -Take one turn, and wait for the result before moving further. Levi is the white light in the darkness - that may or may not work in her favor. -You may focus on one sense during your turn. If you do, bold what sense you're trying to focus on in bold red font for further clues. -If you're attacked, you MUST FIGHT! -If you want to track your progress, you may use this grid that I am using as well, so you know what blocks are safe! -If you fail this test, you may try again at a later date! There is a small waiting period before you may do so. -If you succeed, you will gain a small bonus to your fighting skills! -GOOD LUCK! You'll need it.

And finally Noland had gotten to the point of this excursion. It was simple, but that was fine with Shun. Turning towards Levi, he noticed that the darkness seemed to be encroaching on her. Weird. With a sort of frown, he listened to the instructions and nodded to himself.
"Good luck," he said to the Tatzel before taking in a deep breath. There were other creatures in the area, and it sounded like there may be a lot.
Since he couldn't see much of anything anyway, the Reaper closed his eye and tried to listen carefully. He then walked down, slowly and carefully.
