Cornelius spoke grimly and said, "I really had no choice eating the poor lad. I had people chasing me with pitchforks and then eventually they called in some of the town guard and were shooting crossbow bolts at me. Didn't even have the courtesy to ask why I ate their cows. It was only because their cows took up all the space where I used to and eat things. You know there was a small forest where most of their fields are now, but sadly that's gone." He leaned back in his chair and thought about this now non-existent forest.

Janis frowned. She couldn't help but feel sorry for the boy he'd eaten. He didnt take any pleasure from what he did, it seemed. It wasn't her business to scold or lecture. Even though she was tempted to. That was not go well if she did.
She poured him and herself some tea. She placed the cups among a tray of sugar and honey and cream. She set it on the coffee table.
"There. I haven't put anything extra in it. I wasn't sure what you liked." she said, sitting herself across from him. She fixed her own tea with a little honey.

Corenelius lifted up the quaint little steaming tea cup and said, "This is fine." He then sipped a bit from the hot brew and added, "I'm not very good with distinguishing this tea all humans seem to make. So what kind of tea is it?"

He set the cup down and stated, "Perhaps you'd rather ask me questions of pertinence though considering that you still have no idea what I'm doing here of all places, even though you know my secret now. And especially since I've been carrying that strange book. You've yet to ask me why I might have that out of all the books I say I might have in my library."

"Earl Grey." she told him absently. She was unsure of want to talk about. Still next statement made by her visitor had her wishing she had come up with something. Anything other than that. She had the feeling he didn't have that book by chance. Nor coming here was chance.
Janis was not going to admit that. "You said it was the only one you were able to get you hands on. Meer coincidence." She tried not to flinch at her words. It was a lie. Janis never believed in coincedence. She believed everything happened for a reason. Even if she didn't like the reason....

Cornelius stuck his tongue out at her and said, "You're rather picky with my words." He said as he set his cup down. "I guess I could have grabbed other books, but dragons are really instinctive creatures. I figured since my mother and father are already gone from the world and I've never seen another dragon that I really might be the last one. Therefore, I grabbed a book on mating rituals in hopes I might be able to use it."

He smiled and grabbed the book and flipped through a few pages, "It turns out that I can use it for my primary purpose on humans. But it all comes down to consent as one of the first steps in any of the parts on the actual ritual. Every girl I've tried to convince though has kicked me somewhere or beat and thrown me out of their house."

Janis felt like her stomach just did flip-flops and her face went very red. "Y-you want m-me to mother your children?" she stuttered, jumping to the conclusion he was obviously getting at. She coughed, hoping to steady her voice. "Is that what your getting at?" she said. She was stunned.

"No, not you but someone." Cornelius said. "I want a nice little family of dragons so I at least won't try to run away again like I did from my cave." He snapped the book shut and said, "It'll give me a reason maybe to take it back again and show it's nicety to someone." He pointed at Janis and said, "I suppose you can be my wife, but there are many dangerous or weird tasks you must do like scrub your skin so much that it becomes the softest thing ever, etc."

Janis stared at him stunned. She started to giggled and slowly it turned to hysterical laughter. This lasted for only a few seconds before she stood abruptly and grabbed the tray and their tea.
"I'll just go wash these." she mumbled. She quickly took it to the kitchen and did what she said she would. She did it with added vigor like she did while she was shaken. She scrubbed the dished, her head spinning.
Had he really just suggested all of that? She didn't really know how to take it all. This was really her only way of couping with shocks. The village already thought she was a crazy witch. They'd thing she was downright insane if she went with this. but then again, what did she care what they thought?
Did she want to go along with this?
"Maybe I am crazy." she mumbled, not realizing she'd said it aloud.

Cornelius heard her over the dish scrubbing and joked, "You know I think in the book somewhere it actually says crazy is good for a female dragon. That's the kind of personality my nice book says I should like for." He folded his hands together and waited for a response from Janis.

Janis froze and dropped the dish in her hand. It shattered on the floor. She cursed.
"Your not serious, right?" she asked voice a little too high.
She already felt tightly wound. So if it was a joke she didn't find it funny. If it wasn't then she thought she was going to be in way over her head.
Then again she was a little lonely. She'd been by herself most of her life. Would it be so bad to raise a family? she thought starting to clean up the broken dish.
She froze again. Why was she even considering? It was crazy!

Cornelius heard the dish crack against the wooden floor and rushed into the kitchen. He found Janis standing there frozen after having said, "Your not serious, right?" He didn't answer, but simply waved his hand in her face.

"Hey, Janis, you in there?" He asked, "I was just joking around maybe if you want me to. The girl I get to know doesn't have to be you of course. There's hundreds in the world I could check and see to figure out if they're up to expectations." He lowered his hand and said, "I think I should go. There's at least one girl in Fensworth I wouldn't to meet. Seems like the people in Dunsworth might be close to being dunces." He snapped his fingers and used a little of his dragon magic to lift up the broken saucer. It dropped into a trash can by the doorway. Then he walked back into the main room and grabbed his cloak.

Janis snapped out of she stupor and watched him walk to the door. She didn't know what to say and she didn't think she would what to do what he needed. But at the very least she could still give him a place to stay.
"Wait." she said quietly. "You can leave in the morning if you want, but it's already late. Stay here until sunrise. It'll be better to rest here and I can make you something to help you on your journey." she explained, starting to wash dishes again.

Cornelius turned back around and face Janis. He shrugged his shoulders and threw off his cloak again, letting it land on a coat rack by the door. "I'll have you know I really can do fine on my own, but if you offer to let me stay I suppose I can't refuse a lady's hospitality. Where will I sleep though again? I mean breakfast sounds good, but I'll need a bed to make this a real overnight experience."

Janis placed her dish on the rack to dry and towel dried her hands. For the moment a grin spread across her face.
"I don't just live here to be alone. I like to live on my own by my own terms. However, this wasn't my only plan." she said. "Follow me."
Janis grabbed a light and lead him outside to a large oak tree behind her house. She grabbed something in the tall grass and a large square of grown swung open. Stairs lead down into the darkest. Despite being underground the stairway were very clean. It lead into a long hallway and she snapped her fingers. The light came on above, brightening the large hallway. There were many doors leading to several rooms.
"Your not the only stray to come through. I get them now and then. Dunsworth isn't the best place to live as you well now. They accuse everyone remotely suspicious of... something outlandish." She waved him forward. "Pick you out a room. Everything but the last room on the right is vacant at the moment."

Corenlius stepped forward into the dark underground hall way and looked at all the doors he walked by. "You're telling me all these are occupied? Well, that leaves me no choice then." He stated as he lifted his finger and pointed towards the room at the end with a dimly lit latern hanging above it. "I can live there for a while if you don't mind. If this place keeps me out of Dunsworth then it's fine. My problem is how come I've not seen your other guests today?"
