An ear flicked as something in the kitchen sizzled momentarily, but otherwise Cyprinus kept his gaze down until Dementia spoke, looking up at her in worry. She wasn't royalty? Maybe he had a chance with her after all! But...what did she mean by 'someone else'? Maybe that was why she seemed...different after he pulled her from the ocean? And why the aversion to deep water, what did that have to do with anything? His brow furrowed as he tried to work out what else it might mean, perhaps she was being controlled somehow? No, that made even less sense. He kind of felt sorry for her though, it must be difficult living with a problem like that. Thankfully, he led a fairly normal life, all he had to worry about was cooking for the restaurant.
He was about to ask what Dementia meant by 'someone else', when she brought up breakfast. He was a little hungry too, but he was used to ignoring it, he couldn't let it get in the way of cooking. Smiling, he shook his head a little. "No, I don't keep any extra food around, I make everything fresh. What sort of chef do you take me for?" With that he turned and walked back into his kitchen, looking around for a moment. There was the pot of rice for his sushi, some stew in a pot, soup in another, and some tuna and salmon fillets that were slow-cooking. After checking the two pots on the stove, he turned to face her again. "These need to be stirred every once in a while so they don't burn. If you wouldn't mind keeping an eye on them, it would be my honor to prepare breakfast for her highness." Grinning, he added a gracious bow before hopping over to one of the fridges to dig around for things. Fish, fish, fish... Oh, right, he was a sushi chef. He had already used up all of the non-sushi ingredients, but he still had some eggs, the chicken kind even! He pushed aside the other eggs and pulled out the carton, calling out to Dementia as he tried to figure out what to make, tittering lightly to himself. "How does pancakes and eggs sound? I'll even let you pick which type of fish the eggs come from!"
While he waited for her response, he moved over to the ice chest and started filling the coolers with ice. Though now that he thought about it, there wasn't much else he had to do today, besides check the weather and sea conditions, and of course take care of all the food. Between the six of them they had split up the preparation tasks up rather nicely. That meant he'd probably have to find something else to do to entertain his guest.

Of course he would only use fresh fish. Dementia shook her head, looking around the kitchen there weren't to many dirty dishes and the fridges looked like they were only there to keep supplies fresh. He may be crazy, and his house may be far from clean and orderly... She smiled, but he does seem to be a pretty good chef. The food smells amazing anyway. Cyprinus checked all the pots and pans that were cooking on the stove, as well as inside the oven. She got a little annoyed when he called her "highness" again, but then realized he was just joking. Dementia's eyes sparkled as he bowed and went off to find some breakfast for them. "Of course, I can stir those for you. I may not be a master chef like you, but I am pretty good at not burning anything...except for toast that is." she grimaced. Toast making skills had always eluded her for some reason or another. She walked over to the stove and sniffed at the stew before twirling the spoon around in the pot. "This looks so yummy, Cyprinus!" she commented before going to stir the soup. Dementia's ears perked up when she heard Cyprinus call her. "Pancakes sound delicious! They're my absolute favorite. I'm not sure about the eggs though. It seems like it would take a lot of time and patience to crack enough fish eggs to get a single serving." She joked lightly. It's odd, she thought. He acts so normal even though his...problem seems like such a massive one. Dementia watched him thoughtfully as she slowly stirred the soup. I wonder what happens when it comes time for the actual "fishing trip", does he actually have a boat or something? It looked as though Dementia would have to just wait and see. Stirring up the stew once more, she trotted over to a sink to wash her hooves before breakfast. As she walked by Cyprinus she flicked the tip of her tail, hitting one of his fins playfully. "So, Master Sushi Chef Cyprinus, what else do you have to do today?" Dementia asked with a tinkling laugh.

Cyprinus half-snorted as he tried to hold back a short laugh, before calling back to Dementia. "Well, you know what they say. You can't make an omelet without cracking a few thousand eggs." He looked around for a moment, frowning as he realized he didn't have any pancake mix in the restaurant, nor anything left over to make any from scratch. Though, he wasn't even sure if making them from scratch would be a good idea. He was good with fish, not pancakes, after all.
He was just closing the ice chest when Dementia swatted his dorsal fin, ears perking up as he froze momentarily. Oh really...? Perhaps he really did have a chance with her... Grinning at how she referred to him, he turned to face her, feigning concern on his face. "Master Sushi Chef Cyprinus? That sounds way too long and complicated. Please, it's just 'Super Amazing Master Sushi Chef Extraordinaire Cyprinus III', among friends." He looked around for a moment before bowing to Dementia with a grin. "Now if her highness would excuse this most humble chef, I think I might have pancake mix in my own kitchen, since you really don't want to see me try making the batter myself."
With that he dashed off for the stairs and disappeared into his apartment, returning a minute later with a box between his teeth. Strolling back into kitchen, he gathered up the things he'd need for the pancakes, and another pan for the eggs, making a short comment in a whimsical voice. "I hope you don't mind drool-flavored pancakes!" Cyprinus then started on their breakfast, mixing up the batter and cracking the eggs for the first omelet, stopping for a moment as he realized he had forgotten something. "Oh, uh. As for what I have to do today, not much now that I think about it. Just food and the weather really, and then packing away the cooked food as it's done. Tomorrow is the rest of the food, sushi, see if the forecast has changed any. Then Sunday we load everything up in the morning, do a final check of the weather, and we're off! Hopefully we'll come back with a nice catch to serve our customers for Monday afternoon." He smiled happily as he poured the batter for the first pancake, really looking forward to seeing what the deeper waters would turn up.

"Sounds like tedious work cracking all those eggs my friend." Dementia laughed. She finished drying her hooves and trotted back over to check on the stew. "That’s quite a mouthful. Maybe…S.A.M.S.C.E.C.3rd?" She stumbled over the confusing acronym. "How about I just call you Cyp for short?" She smiled at him while she stirred up the stew. "My names sort of long…so you can call me Kana if you want." She nodded at him when he asked to be excused to get more pancake mix. Quickly stirring the soup up, Dementia wondered about Cyprinus’ life. The crash happened last year, does that mean he’s been alone this whole time? Dementia sighed. It was such a sad thought…
The restaurant and his living quarters up stairs currently led her to think in that direction. But I can’t imagine, She thought, loosing all your best friends out at see and coming home along. He’s spent a whole year by himself thinking that his brothers are still alive. It’s enough to drive anyone insane! Just then Cyprinus came back into the kitchen. "Hm…drool-flavored pancakes does sound tempting! But I think I’ll just stick with the good ol’ fashioned plain kind." After stirring up the soup and stew for the umpteenth time she walked over to watch Cyprinus work on breakfast.
"I guess you would have to check the weather a lot if you’re going out to venture on the wide open seas. I never thought it was that important, until you mentioned it just now." She commented. "Sounds like you’re going to have some free time when you’re done working. If you don’t have anything planned, maybe we could take a walk on the beach this afternoon? My house is pretty close to the lighthouse, you probably know where that is, you could come over for tea or something if you’d like." Dementia wanted to talk to him a bit more about his friends, to see how deep the crazy went with him. But she had to do it in such a way so that she didn’t seem to nosy. "Or we could go look at tide pools if you want…" She suggested.

Cyprinus just smiled and flipped the pancake, a little curious that she invited him over to her place so quickly. She had already stayed the night at his, so maybe it didn't really mean anything, just a friendly chat over tea? Hmmmm... "Tide pools? I LOVE tide pools! They're all...tide-y, and...pool-like. The idea of suggesting them as an afterthought to tea appalls me, your highness. How could one ever think that a lowly cup of tea could ever compare to a tide pool?" He flipped the pancake again, making sure it was done before tossing it onto a plate. It was a little over-cooked, but still edible. Pouring the batter for the next, he stirred up the eggs some more, glancing over at the kirin with a grin.
Having a moment free, he hopped over to the other food that was cooking, giving them all a quick check as he went around the kitchen. Everything seemed to be fine though. That done, he slid back to the breakfast. Flip the pancake, fold the eggs over, glance over at the lovely kirin watching him, rinse and repeat. Or...something like that, perhaps he shouldn't be looking at her that much? He might scare her away! "Anyway, I kid, I would be honored to join you for some beach this afternoon. Or perhaps a walk along the tea, if you prefer. I'll have to check my schedule first though, I think some cute girl invited me for a walk on the beach and some tea at her place today..." He tossed her a smirk before turning his attention back to breakfast, sliding the omelet onto a plate and flipping the pancake again.

Oh no, she thought after she spoke. What if he thinks I’m being to forward or something? Dementia was just about to make some excuse, like she forgot she had something important to do today, but he was already speaking. She laughed at his comment about the tide pools. "Oh you’re right! What ever was I thinking." Dementia smirked. Watching as he checked over his food once more, she noticed that he kept looking at her but she didn’t quite know what to make of it. I’m I acting weird? she wondered, even more self conscience the usual. Maybe I should tone it down a bit. I think I’m usually more shy then this. He then came over and set their breakfast on the table. It smelled delicious, especially the pancakes. Those had always been her favorite thing for breakfast.
Laughing again when he mixed up his words, she took a bit of pancake. In the back of her mind she thought; Now did he mix up his words because he’s nervous? Trying to make me laugh? Part of his craziness? However she paid little attention to that detail as she found her self having a good time. What am I thinking? He’s totally normal. she said pushing the other thoughts out of her mind. He said he might like to go hang out this afternoon! It’s almost like a date! She tried not to giggle out loud. What a ridiculous thought, she had only just met him after all! Blushing at his comment, she tried some eggs. "Everything is so good Cyp! You could go into business." She winked at him.

He grinned as she laughed at his jokes, watching her for a moment to see what she thought of his cooking. It wasn't that he was worried she would necessarily dislike it, he was good at most things he set out to cook, but he'd almost never cooked breakfast. Luckily she seemed to approve, and he smiled at her blush. "Oh, I don't know about that. Starting a business sounds like it would be pretty complicated. I mean, I'd have to find a place to set up shop, and buy all the equipment, and hire people to work for me. I'd probably have to give up my love of cooking so I could cook for a living, and then I wouldn't have any time for my friends, or...for entertaining royal kirin." He winked back with the last part, then started on his own plate. It was good, especially for a spontaneous breakfast while cooking other food, but he could probably do better. Maybe next time, if there was a next time? He didn't want to presume of course.
That made him pause for a moment, though he caught himself and went back to eating, avoiding her gaze as he did. They had only met recently, and though she had stayed the night at his place, it was under good intentions. He wasn't one to rush things, but was it a bad idea to agree to a date of sorts at her place? He smiled and shook his head, it wasn't like she was inviting him to stay the night, it was fine. Plus, tea! And, bonus, tea with a rather good looking kirin to boot! What could go wrong? He looked up at her again, watching her for a moment before adding something else with a grin. "I apologize in advance if my tea etiquette is lacking, your highness. I don't often enjoy tea, and when I do it certainly isn't in the presence of fine royalty such as yourself..."

Dementia had been alone for so long, she forgot what it was like to have a conversation at the dinner table. She hoped she wasn’t being too rude. At least I remember to never talk with your mouth full… she thought to herself. When he went back to eating she did the same. Her tail flicked around giving away some of her nerves. Luckily, where Cyprinus was sitting he couldn’t see it. She grinned at his comment. "I think I could get used to all this royal treatment. Better be careful Cyp, I might get spoiled and turn into a royal brat." she laughed. Goodness, when was the last time I laughed so much?
It was quiet for a few minutes while they continued eating their breakfast. When Cyprinus spoke again Dementia couldn’t help but roll her eyes in an amused way. "Good heavens don’t worry about etiquette. I hardly know the first thing about how to drink tea properly…my royal…uh…persona might. But I certainly don’t." Her smile faltered a bit. She still wasn’t sure what to make of her other self. I suppose I’ll figure out more in time, she thought. "However," Dementia added, "don’t be a complete slob. I don’t want to be cleaning up stains on my nice rugs." She winked at him and finished up her breakfast. Wiping her hooves on a napkin, she looked around the kitchen again. It was a nice place, and it smelled wonderful now that food was simmering on the stove. "So, what to do now my fine fishy friend?" Dementia asked, hopping off her seat, and taking her dish to the sink. "Perhaps I could help you pack your food for the fishing trip? Some of it smells just about done."

Cyprinus offered a sympathetic smile as she brought up her...split personality issue, he supposed? He was curious about the whole thing, but didn't want to be rude, especially seeing as they had just met. He was sure it would come out though, when the time was right. Luckily he had something else to focus on, and laughed as she suggested that he would drool on the floor, or...maybe spill tea? Something like that. "I make no promises, I wasn't raised by koi you know!"
Tilting his head up, he sniffed at the aromas coming from the cooking food, nodding a bit in agreement. Some of it smelled done, might as well start packing it, the rest should be done soon anyway. "Now my kind kirin companion, I get to stuff all of my fine creations into ugly containers to chill instead of getting to decorate a plate with them. Kind of sad really, but I wouldn't trust any of the others with cooking." He shook his head knowingly, remembering the time Oscar had tried his hand at making food when they went on a day trip to a lake. Or, a half-day trip as it had turned out, they got sick before anyone really had a chance to land a fish. He's since been demoted to captain because of that incident. Haha!
Having finished his plate as well, Cyprinus got up and followed 'Kana to the sink, placing the plate alongside hers before looking around at the kitchen for a moment. It smelled like...the stew was done. A decent start if nothing else. Sliding around the kirin in his kitchen, he dug out the storage containers and set them aside before turning back to face her. "And of course you can help if you'd like, mind boxing up the soup while I do the stew?" He set aside some containers and a ladle next to the pot the soup was in before doing the same to the stew, carefully filling the plastic boxes once he had. As much as he was looking forward to the weekend, he was tempted to hurry his work along so they could head to her place. Though he liked the setup he had, something about the kirin's presence made the place feel old and run-down. It was fine of course, part of being the cook meant that his brothers got stuck with most of the cleaning, aside from the kitchen of course. Still, it almost felt...off. He shrugged and went back to packing away the stew, he didn't have time to worry about it right now.

"Well as long as you try, that’s all I ask. " She giggled, "You seem to have pretty decent manners even if you weren’t raise by koi." "The boxes may not be much to look at but you know what they say! It’s what’s on the inside that counts!" She smiled for a second then frowned when she looked at her warped reflection in the stainless-steel sink. So…what is on the inside Kana? Setting the plate down carefully she turned away so she wouldn’t have to look at whoever it was staring back at her. "Of course I can help with the soup." Slowly she ladled the soup into the containers Cyp had left for her; she sped up as she got more confident she wouldn’t spill the delicious contents all over the stove. When she was done she placed the lids on sideways so the steam could still escape until Cyp was read to actually pack them up. "Can I help with anything else? Maybe I could…do the dishes for you while you finish?" Kana asked carrying the pot over to the sink. "It’s the least I can do for all you’ve done for me. Letting me stay at your place last night and all…"
