Ren was busy QQing. 8C
"So, erm," he said, wading through the water. "Do you think Amphi is...you know, The One?"

"The one?" Roch yelped. "Jack, that's movin' WAY too fast, man! I mean, we only been datin' for a few months--I ain't ready t'say stuff like 'the one' or the--the M word--or somethin' y'know--like--" He was bright red even in the cold water. "Jack, we haven't even really gotten t'the L word," he admitted. "It just... sortta... happened."

It was actually pretty amusing watching Roch get so flustered. Ren was attempting to hide a smile, but it wasn't really working.
"Well, I think it's great," he said honestly. "I need to re-meet this Amphi, now that she's dating one of the best boils there is."
There was a slight pause, and then he added casually, "As for the m-word, it's been bandied around a bit lately by a certain gryphon and werewolf couple."

"You're GETTIN MARRIED??" Roch yelped, shocked enough to jump back in the water--trip--and fall in. For a moment he floated under the surface before bursting through. "Seriously? When? After y'graduate?" he asked, looking excited as he shoved his hair back. It was perfectly fine when it wasn't HIM! And Ren and LW had been dating since he'd first met the guy, as far as he could remember. That was plenty long enough, right?

"Not yet," said Ren, with a laugh, his cheeks pink. Waves of water washed over him, and he winced slightly, trying to ignore the shifts of cold.
"And yes, after I graduate. I wouldn't even dream of getting married while still in school, that's way too early. But LW and I have been dating for almost three years now, and we've talked about it, and, well..."
He trailed off, looking mildly embarrassed, but there was a pleased expression mingled with it. "I do love her, and I want to stay with her for the rest of my life, so..."

"Congratulations," Roch said honestly. "I'm still tryin' t'figure out how t'keep Amphi from goin' back t'sea after we graduate," he admitted, turning and looking into the water to keep from showing just how much that thought bothered him. "Her sister... well... she's sort of a... possessive pain in th'a**. She'd take'er back f'r sure if she knew about--" He went silent, staring at the water grimly.

"Thank you," said Ren, pleased, in spite of the fact that he was standing waist high in icy cold water. His expression shifted a little, became softer, and he said reassuringly, "Just keep reminding her of the good things she has here."
A disgusted look flickered into his eyes as he added grimly, "Believe me, I know all about possessive families."

Roch shrugged. "Well I didn't," he said simply. "Looks like somethin's in your net again, man," he added, pointing.

Ren dived.
There was an enormous splash, a great deal of swearing, and a second later Ren emerged triumphantly, completely and utterly soaked, with his sopping hair in his face but holding a wriggling floresce in his net.
"Finally," he said, and struggled to go back to shore, thoroughly grateful to finally be getting out of the water. Once back on land, he flopped down onto the ground tiredly.
Then he rolled over and peered up at Roch.
"Thanks, man," he said, and smiled. "You were a big help. I think I can take this back to Professor Malcom myself, so you can go get in some dry clothes."
There was a pause while he dragged himself to his feet again, feeling as though his clothes weighed about a hundred pounds, and started to walk back to the school, but then he turned around again.
"Don't worry too much about Amphi," he said. "She's a beautiful ghoul, and she likes you and you like her. I think you'll be all right."
He smiled, started walking again, and then stopped once more, turning around a second time.
"Oh, and here," he said, reaching into his pocket and taking something out. He flicked his thumb, and the tiny object flew through the air towards Roch.
"Thanks," said Ren with a grin, and made his way back to Professor Malcom.

Roch grabbed the pin and grinned slightly, no longer worried about the whole boogey problem he used to have. But before he could offer his own, Ren was gone, leaving the punk boil soaking wet and smelling of fish...
He wondered if Amphi would think he'd been cheating or something. Then laughed, sludging onto the shore and grabbing his things. He wasn't going to put them on--not when he was this wet, so he folded them up and carried them in his arms, the pin on top of them all. Walking back to the reaper dorms barefoot... would be a very interesting experience, he figured.

Professor Malcolm seemed to be waiting for Ren's return, sitting on the top of his desk; he had a dry towel folded neatly on one side, and a suspiciously wet invisible dog on the other side... Not that the minipet could be seen - there was just a trail of wet paw prints, leading all the way from the outside to the desk. There was also an outline marked by water where the thud thud thud of a wagging tail hitting the surface of the desk could be heard.
"Good job," He seemed to be trying to smile, but it still looked like he was making the perfect poker face, "I hope that this helped you with your fear of water... All fears can be overcomed, but you need to take the first step to face it first." He decided to not tell Ren about how he almost went with his father's method of teaching scarelings how to swim - by suddenly throwing them in the water.
Tossing the dry towel at the student, he then held out a vial of something which looked like a bundle of grey-green seaweed, intertwined together; although it was suspended in water, it looked rather foul and slimy, "Next time you find yourself in water, calm down, and eat a stalk of this. It'll give you the ability to breathe underwater by giving you gills, although it's only a temporary effect that will last about an hour. It's called Gillyweed and I totally took it from a certain somewhere. It might not taste very good, but it might save your life... If there are no questions, you're free to go."Quote: Ren receieves Gillyweed! Since it's considered food, it does heal up to 8hp (Roll 1d8 to determine amount) when consumed. However, its primary use is for breathing underwater. Whatever/Whenever Ren chooses to use it on/for, there is only enough to last 2 uses. Even if he eats it to heal his HP, he will still grow gills. 8D PS. Yes, he can feed it to someone else instead. kurmato I WILL DELIVER YOUR SILVER SEED AFTER I FINISH THIS PAPER :'D This concludes this mentoring session! I look forward to the next one. |D
