"I like running with deer and antelope. The Harp Toads are amusing in that if you step on them they sound funny. Other then that I'm not all that familiar with the wildlife..well unless you count the sea serpents. They are overly friendly."

Raz found his fondness for the lesser creatures strange, and chose not to comment on it. He just kept walking, breaking a trail through the undergrowth. A breeze found its way down through the canopy overhead, and on that breeze, Razien smelled water. His ears pricked up, and he started drawing in deep breaths of air, trying to determine in which direction it was coming from. "Do you smell that Kai? Water. I just can't seem to make out which direction it's coming from. it's been a while since I came this way, and I seem to have lost my bearings." He continued to sniff the air, but he stopped walking, allowing Kai to move up beside him.

"North. I live by a lake. You get used to using it to gain your bearings on adventures." Kai paused by the other stallion, noticing how their coats were so different and yet complimented each other in an oddly nice way.

North huh, thought Raz? Now if he could just figure out which way was north. Here amidst the trees, he couldn't see the horizon, so he had no idea exactly where the mountain to the north were. "I see," he replied, "then why don't you take the lead? I'm not very good with directions when I can't see beyond the trees, or even the sky." He hoped Kai would accept his offer, otherwise he would be forced to once again lead them blindly along.

Kai stepped forward and stretched his neck out. Sniffing he followed the trail of moisture that they were soon getting close to. Moss now cushioned their footsteps, blue green in the sparkling clarity of the forest floor. Thick vines tickled their backs and Kai inspected them first before walking under them, Snakes were know to startle azrein in this dense underbrush. And he wasn't looking forward to that particular experience.

When they came to the edge Kai almost fell into the water. It was such an abrupt stop that it looked like someone had taken a razorblade and cut the forsest off at just this point like some form of wildly overgrown sod.

"Well, here is your lake. Do you remember what it was called?"

Raz pulled up short as Kai stopped abruptly. He moved around to stand beside him and looked at the lake. It's name? He hadn't even known it was here, how was he supposed to know if it had a name. He was digging himself further and further in a hole with every lie he told to Kai. "I'm not sure it even has a name," he said, "but it does look refreshing. What are we waiting for?" He cautiously stepped down into the cool water, and made his way out into the lake. It was nowhere near as large as Sandar Lake, but it would accomodate the two large stallions. "Come on, it's fine."

Unceremoniously Kai jumped in. He was careful to not splash Raz but he did make a rather large ripple. Oh this water felt divine not to hot or cold and not swimming in freaking algae. Some lake trout retreated from the onslaught of flailing hooves and Kai dunked his head in happily, his mane getting caught up on his horn. "Ahh this is great, I'm so glad we found it."

Raz had to agree with Kai's statement. The water did feel good on his sweat-soaked coat, and he put a great deal of effort into making sure he rid himself of every last drop of sweat. The water was also sweet, and he drank his fill of it. He walked out far enough that his feet no longer touched the bottom, and he began swimming. He'd been given swimming lessons as a child, so he had built up enough stamina that he could swim for an hour before tiring. But he didn't know if Kai could last that long, so after a while, he came back ashore and found a nice place to lie down and roll on his back. The feel of the grass on his skin felt wonderful, and he rolled about like a young colt.

Kai swam with Raz for a while. Living by lakes and ponds had made Kai an excellent swimmer. He admired these skills in Razien as well. Kai stayed leg deep in the water watching Raz roll in delight. He was in a pose that his father had spent much time in although he did not realize it. After all Tide wasn't called "Tide" for nothing. Kai shook his head and smiled at his companion. The sun began to bake his golden coat, it felt good and he sighed in pure pleasure. looking up at the sun he realized it was a bit late out but since there were no clouds as of yet the sun still shone unhindered.

Raz was so at ease for the first time in days that he started to doze off lying there on the soft grass, with the warm sun beating down on his wet skin. Kai didn't seem ready to come out of the water yet, so Raz allowed his eyes to slowly close. Lying there, deep in the forest with only Kai for company, Raz mused about his life, and what it would be like to live this way always. Nasu would like it, he thought to himself. At the thought of Nasu he knew in his heart that he would return to the herd. He could not abandon his youngest brother while he ran away to the north. Sure, he had done just that already, which was why he was now here, lying in the sun, but when he left this time, it was always with the intention of returning. He'd been sent north on a mission, so he was expected back. But the next time he was sent north, he would not return, and he owed it to his brother to let him know in case he wanted to leave with him.

Kai finally strode out of the water. "Well Razien I better go home before they send out my cousins to look for me. You wouldn't believe how much noise the females make when they are looking for someone, more than the males I'm nearly sure."

Raz laughed and said, "I know exactly what you mean. Although I only had brothers when I was born, the herd I ended up living with had its fair share of loud-mouthed mares. Well, I had better get to looking for my little brother, so I bid you farewell and safe travels. Perhaps we shall meet again in the future. I have enjoyed our time together." He stood up and headed back the way they had come. A thought occurred to him, so turning back to look at Kai he said, "I don't suppose you need to go back the way we came? I do, so perhaps we could walk back together?"

"I believe I do have to go back that way for a bit. If you wouldn't mind the company I would walk with you." Kai joined him. And they walked for a ways along the path. When Kai found landmarks he recognized he said his goodbyes to Razien. "Thank you for your companionship. It was an enjoyable outing." Kai nodded to the other in respect.

Raz bid his new friend farewell, and headed south. He needed to find Nasu, and tell him of his plans to leave the service of the Six, and seek his future elsewhere. Anywhere that did not require him to take the life of those who did not deserve death.
