Jordan laughed. "There'd better not be any leashes involved," he said. He set Mango down. The foxfire immediately resumed his sniffing tour of the Trappers HQ. "Lead on, o fearless leader."

He was surprised by the kiss and was left with a very dazed and silly look on his face as his brain jogged to keep up. His first reaction was to immediately look around to see if anyone had saw and ruined the moment. It was on realising no, no one saw or cared, it finally sunk in that here, they could do what they wanted, relax how they wanted, at least to an extent.

It had been a long time since he was taken off guard by such deep and contented happiness.

Jordan got a grin. "You say that like that'd be a bad thing."

Jordan's eyes widened and his ears flicked up sharply, caught totally off guard by the unexpectedly playful response. Then he relaxed into a smile, made even smugger than usual by the feline features. He padded over to claim the other side of the arrangement, not minding that the hand he rested over Harrison's was currently much smaller proportionally.

God, it was nice to just relax.

Harrison made a mental note. Jordan - leashes, no. Rep - leashes, okay.

He took the opportunity to sniff Jordan again. Discreetly. What was that, really, it was just so- hmmm. He changed his grip so he could run a thumb over Jordan's hand affectionately.

The anxious-smell from both of them had dissipated.

"Leading," he said. He snuck one of the free mini brochure-like maps into his pocket on the way out, just in case.

There was a whole lot of feelings involved in the moment Rep couldn't quite wrap words around. In his life he'd never really felt safe and secure, never felt needed. And he'd tried to teach himself so often that wanting that sort of thing was weak, unmanly. A real man relied on nothing but himself, on his own wits and strength. It was a tug of war in his thoughts between what he should feel and what he felt.

He dismissed his doubts, he had no need for manliness here, there was no one ******** judging. He'd make it up when he got back to the island. Here and now he was happy to bask in the kind of contentment he'd never known as a child or any time since.

If he'd had a word for it, it might just have been family.

Slipping his arms around both of them he gave them both a very grateful squeeze. "You assholes ******** spoil me okay."

And with that, he was more than willing to trot out after Harrison, tail still wagging happily behind him.

They started out in the Misty Fields, the fog and grass almost homey. Harrison cocked his ears at every chitter or suspicious rustling, but he wasn't on guard. Just curious. The smells here were wild, enticing, and he had the distinct urge to bury his nose in everything.

They split off onto one of the paths near the top of the field, walking on a gradual incline past the Dark Forest and towards the mountains. Here the hike became gradually more rocky, and Harrison ignored the sign directing them to the Karsts. The wind picked up.

Killer frollicked beside them happily, occasionally nibbling at Rep's pant legs or butting his head against Jordan's leg while the trail was still relatively flat, and hopping from rock to rock as it became steeper, until he encountered one his tiny, fat body couldn't handle. He sat down anxiously, pouting up at the offending boulder.

Harrison came to the rescue, scooping him up like a football, and Killer stayed tucked under his arm the rest of the climb.

Thunder rumbled threateningly on the horizon, and lightening flashed across the sky as they worked their way up the mountainside.

They were here to trap, not reach the summit, so when Harrison came to a relatively flat overlook he paused, taking in the view before considering the area and the winding trail ahead.

"This is a good spot," he decided, "and we can wait under that overhang. That'll keep us out of the rain." He set Killer down. "You guys want to start getting traps set up?"

As the sky darkened and thunder began to rumble, Jordan's ears tucked back a little; he wasn't fond of thunderstorms in general, and he was finding that the idea of being rained on was even less pleasant than usual. Still, it wasn't enough to ruin his good mood, and the discovery that the bakeneko golem had excellent balance was really kind of fun. He could hop from rock to rock with confidence, even in the geta.

The small plateau was a good spot for trapping, with some tumbled rocks over to one side and patches of scrubby vegetation. Jordan turned to grin at Rep. "Here, I'll show you how to set up a trap," he offered, and led the way over towards the small rockfall, unslinging his bag as he did so. "You want to put it near a spot where wild minis might be hiding, like this rockpile or in the bushes over there. Here's a spot, this flat bare patch near a hole, that'll be good. Take some bait, there, and you can set up a simple box trap, or set a rope loop with a trigger line."

He paused to give the other two a thoughtful look. "I bet you guys have an advantage on me this run with the sense of smell thing. If you can smell animal in a spot, try setting your trap there."

When he'd gotten his trap set up, he took two enchantment slips out of his bag, one blue and one green, and pressed them carefully onto the edge of the trap line, first the blue and then the green, waiting for each to shimmer and flash briefly before removing them and tucking them back into the bag. "And that's how you apply an enchantment," he explained. "You can put them on multiple traps. They don't run out. I've only got a two-trap license, though."

He had to stop inhaling through his nose as they went from one interesting terrain to the other, the scents just far too distracting, to the point it was hard to even pay attention with his other senses. No wonder dogs seemed so stupid, the world was just so ******** exciting when it was written in smells.

Killer did manage to earn a pat on the head for being intolerably adorable as they went. He figured he'd risk losing a few golem fingers.

As they climbed he almost started to regret picking the most inhospitable place around, the lightning surprisingly close. The thunder unsettling him a lot, you just didn't get storms like this back home, and the canine in him was making him skittish.

He followed Jordan carefully, perking his ears attentively as trapping was explained. "Seems simple enough." he stated, figuring he'd probably regret saying it later. Leaning down, he slunk off to finally let his nose do its job and sniff around for anything that seemed living enough to be a mini or at least a trail where where one had been before. It was difficult though, scents were windblown and sparse, and it was only fleetingly he picked up the scent of something out of the ordinary.

Oh well it'd have as good a chance here as anywhere he supposed, setting it up as he'd been shown, pressing the precious bits of paper - enchantments he corrected himself mentally, to it, a flash of pure light followed by a bright red one. "I..think that's it?" he said mostly to himself, as he backed off a bit.

Swishing his tail and looking pleased with himself he headed back. "I did it!"

Harrison knelt to build his own trap, which was less cage and more a very precariously-placed rock.

There were a lot of rocks.

He followed suite, Enchanting the thing until it sizzled.

It hissed as a drop of rain hit it, and he looked up, smelling the wet.

"Okay," he said, "Just got to wait it out." He grinned, going to make himself comfortable under the overhang. "Should have brought a picnic basket."
PostPosted: Mon May 14, 2012 4:26 pm

"Not with the snacks they stock in the general store down there," Jordan pointed out, ducking under the overhang hastily as rain started to patter down sparsely. "And they only have Coke. Scuse me, Choke." He put an ear back. "Tastes even nastier than the real thing."

He flopped down and leaned on Harrison companionably, his tails curling automatically around his legs as he sat. "Warm," he commented lazily.

As the rain started Rep hurriedly got out of the way of it, heading under the overhang himself. He was a city slicker, he always had been, and this whole raw nature thing was woefully overrated. Rainslick streets sung to him, windblown rain spattered mountain did not. But he'd picked the location, he'd have to be a man and deal with it.

He sat down heavily, eyeing the traps with a bit of doubt. He just hoped he had done it right.

"I can only imagine what s**t the weirdos here eat and drink given how messed up they look. Having some ******** up version of Coke is probably the least of the nasty they are capable of."

There was a sudden niggling urge for bacon.

His tail swished again in a few attempted wags as he watched Jordan lean on Harrison. Cat demon was surprisingly apt, he thought to himself, though he didn't say it out loud.

"BBQ," Harrison said, "That's what I'm in the mood for. ********, it's been a year since I've had anything off a grill."

He put an arm around Jordan, teasing one of his ears.

"You don't like Coke? I think you're some kinda Coffee Vampire in disguise."

"Damn, that sounds good," Jordan agreed. "I'm stacking up a list of foods to get when I can. Hey, good thing about portals, you can go wherever the best kind is." He half-closed his eyes. "That feels nice."

"Coke's too sweet," he said absently, paying more attention to how good it felt to have the base of his ear rubbed than to what he was talking about. "Most sodas are too sweet." He relaxed against Harrison, a faint, involuntary purr starting in his chest. It felt weird, and there was a little tickle of irritation at the back of his mind that it was so easy to tell what he was thinking in this body, but it was just them here and purring seemed more important than getting annoyed about it.

Ferros was radiating smug amusement, for some reason. Jordan ignored him with great dignity.

The mention of barbecue was outright torture for Rep, making him even more acutely aware of his desire for food. Good god he would kill for some char grilled chicken, and bacon and..hell just the whole farm char grilled to perfection. Hell. It didn't even need to be char grilled. Just warm would do. Maybe body temperature.

He had to stop himself from drooling with an irritable frown.

He gave both of them a serious look as if Jordan had said something mortally offensive. "There is no such thing as too sweet."

What seriousness he'd managed to muster melted though at the sight of how relaxed both of them looked, getting an edge of vicarious relaxation himself, his posture just a little less stiff than it had been. He looked out at the rain, still sitting somewhat apart from them and dwelled on the strange collision of cravings that left him wanting a live chicken covered in cake frosting.

Harrison continued to lazily scratch Jordan's ear, amused by what was definitely purring.

'We gotta sweeten you up. You don't get enough sugar, you'll start getting sour," he said. His hands were broad enough that he could massage both ears, and he did just that, thumb and middle finger moving in easy circles.

The rain was really starting to come down now, and over the pound of water he heard a distinctive series of snaps. It seemed like a shame to get up.

"Hey Rep," Harrison said, "Why don't you go check the traps?"
