Jerry wobbled to a sniffling stop, staring dimly into one of the dark classrooms, his mind putty, "Oh," He said. "Hunter or crazy-house?" He stared at the shadowy silhouette of the teacher's desk in the gleam of Roar's eyes. He knew how that felt. He knew about 'No other choice.' Either way, it wasn't fair. And it was the shadows' fault. He pulled the trigger, and the desk was sent into splinters. Quote: 34-65: A large, semi-solid creature barrels into you! It's slow-moving but a bit more powerful than the smaller ones. Mob Stats HP: 10 Auto Damage: 3 (hit or miss)

Something swirled out of the dust of the desk, and Jerry gave a frustrated, almost animalistic snarl in the back of his throat, blasting the creature as it leaped for him as well.
Roar shifted in the back of his head with interest. He knew he could smell it on the man. He had it in him. He had just afraid of it. Lay in wait. Now wasn't the time.
The shadowy, opossum-like creature landed on his shoulder with a whispering hiss.

Crazy house? That was a nice way of putting it. Yeah, he didn't want the rest of his life to be in a pill-induced haze.
Before Wash could respond, Jerry was blowing up things. He supposed this was probably a better mental state than before. Maybe. He stood beside him again, shield at the ready, against the shadow creatures and insidious whispers, but was having trouble focusing. Why had they chosen this place to relive their pasts?

"My Gram understood. She didn't see them, but she understood me. My uncle almost had me committed. I started drinking instead. He only wanted the house, anyway," Jerry responded, almost casually as he fired another blast at the darting creature.
Still, somehow, it managed to cling onto life.

Wash was gaining a new, albeit grim perspective on the normally sunny man beside him. He supposed he shouldn't have assumed it was all rainbows and puppies; they weren't a platoon of regular soldiers. They all probably had varying degrees of haunted pasts.
Wash just listened and remained respectfully silent.

It seemed most of what Jerry was feeling was summed up by Bazooka blasts.

The silence after the rather cartoonishly large bazooka blast that wiped out the already maimed creature dragged on for a bit, awkwardly.
"Well, bright side is," Wash began after a deep breath, "kinda doubt your uncle would want your dorm room...Right? Those beds are awful."

"It had very nice bricks," Jerry sighed distantly before turning to stiffly shuffle past Wash back into the hall again. He had to at least get an idea of the lay of the land. Are you home there, guy? Roar ventured. "Shut up," Jerry grunted. Was just testing. Do you need to sing your Jerry song?"I said shut up," He aimed Roar's bristling eyes, still bright from his full Fear Charge into the next room. Another class room. You're finally relaxin'. It's good. "I wouldn't call this relaxed," He mumbled, glancing back to see if Wash was following.

Er, wow. Shut up? So assertive, suddenly. Maybe his joke had been ill-timed.
Or he was talking to himself. Or his weapon.
Or himself, Sally ventured quietly. She must have been feeling a bit better if she was making quips.
Wash did follow him obediently- and as Jerry turned to see if he was coming, a tiny creature hissed and reared up near him. Wash lunged forward and slashed it in half. Heh, not so bad. It dissipated, and he had to resist doing a little victory dance. It was nice, hitting things. Therapeutic, even. He was beginning to see why Jerry could be so trigger happy.

Huh, Wash had been pretty sure you couldn't just up and quit. Weird. Sally snorted.
Hmm, yes. 'Quitting'.
Cryptic, but at least she was talking. "Yeah, good people, around here. Ya can't quit now, man. People'd miss you. And nobody wants to see a big man like me cry, right?" He joked. "Besides, I don't think Sasha'd wanna run that music club without you. And that young lady o' yours...Candace, right?"
Wash smiled, friendly and possibly a bit oblivious.

Jerry fell quiet again, glowering at the shadows still whispering around them. He fired aimlessly to try to scare them off. "I think... we made a good dent. We should head back."

Wash raised his eyebrows, but didn't comment on the man's sudden change of topic.
"Uh...yeah, ok, sure man. Glad I could help a friend." He reached out to slap him on the back. Camaraderie had temporarily chased back his inner demons. He resisted the urge to add, good talk, man.
