Seeing the faces of her two friends made her instantly calmer, a wash of content as both Yuzhi and Mengyao praised her find - her worries dashed away as she wandered from Mengyao's side momentarily to place the slabs with the other items the group had found, a soft smile tugging at her mouth. She had worried that they were lost in the rush of it all - having lost would have probably damaged her further, along side the loss of her sisters, but for now, one step ahead of the other, she would retrace her steps.
She didn't have to tell them she was happy to see them, or relieved to know she wasn't alone anymore in this new society, the soft smiles and looks she broke throug her normally cool exterior directed at them were enough.
Clearing her throat as she wandered back to the side of her best friend, she looked up at him and the others, knitting her eyebrows as she wondered how she would word this, before shrugging lightly. "I found a smaller hollow tree a little while back, and thin we should take it too." She worded out, lifting her robed hands lightly as she talked. "Possibly easier to break up the loads?" She felt a little meek offering it up, but it was in truth - they were starting put pull together a lot of items, and it would overload the first 'sled' of a sort. Lowering her eyes, she went to work thinking of ways they were going to haul everything together, before murmuring a soft "It should work." to no one in particular.
Hearing someone talking to her, she looked up again to the Noble, one whom she had seen a few times with her friends, whom looked as enjoyed to be here as Mengyao did, listening carefully to the questions she was posing to her. "I am not sure." She bluntly stated, not willing to skirt around with words. "There is much riding on us . . . we will be able to do whatever we can, with what we're given - but I am sure we can make the best of any situations." She answered, shrugging softly.
"We'll see."She was an artisan, yes, but there was little one could do with a few pieces of kindling and a leaf. They would have to work on rebuilding before she would work on rekindling the stories of the lost, with whomever she had left to work on, and this worried her everyday when she wrote what she could down, partially for memory, and partially for future usage.

Xiomara couldn't believe this. She was being forced to scavenge for items like some, some bum. She sighed and looked around the area she was in. She might as well get it over with. She grumbled under her breath about all the injustice in the world. She had just done her nails too. She found some leaves on the ground and threw them in the bag she had with her. She did'n't know what they could do with the leaves but she wanted poof that she actually went out and helped out.

The savage coughing that wracked his entire body subsided and he stood, brushing a freshly bloodied hand against the side of his darker robes in an effort to clean it off, trying to be as nonchalant about it as possible. "Your parents were wise, precious Little." His nickname for poor Yuzhi apparently shifted a little bit, his voice momentarily hoarse as he recovered from his coughing.
"We couldn't possibly ask more of you, you and your sister are doing nearly all the work already~" Sal refused Tseng gracefully, even if the offer had not been directed at him. The pair of Conquests that were using their minipets to gather items simply baffled him; in Famine, you worked and pulled your own weight, and could only climb the ranks if you were useful. This pair seemed about as useful as an empty flask in the desert, at least when it came to gathering materials. But, if she was as important as the air about her made her seem, she may very well be a decent ally.
"Of course, sweetheart. We all have adjustments to make." He at least understood where Lan was coming from in regards to shock, and the Sage made his way over to capture her hand with his own (still somewhat bloody) one, pressing cracked, bloody lips against her knuckles. "Pleasure. My name is Salbei, but please call me Sal." He released her hand, drifting his red gaze to the Artisan next.
"We've been collecting a pile of larger items over there for the time being." He gestured to the little pile of larger items - mainly Yuzhi's dead tree and his stone slabs - bringing it to everyone's attention as piles were generally easier to handle than re-finding that which had already been found. "We've just been keeping track over who found what." To make it easier to bring home later, too. The taller male stooped down for a moment, picking up a few bones to add to his growing pile of much smaller items. "If that helps you at all." It was technically Yuzhi's pile with his things in it, but he felt inclined to extend the offer at least.

She had noted Sal's coughing but politely said nothing on it simply because he didn't need to have attention drawn to it. Despite his 'nicknames' for her she was starting to appreciate him a bit and thus she as she passed by him she gave him a light hand on the forearm a gesture meaning to comfort after his fit was done and then she went on with business. Needless to say he grew on her rather quickly.
Thinking of her parents brought a bit of a frown to her face and a small threat of tears but she sucked it up and continued to search letting Sal do as he wished with the pile they had started at the tree. After all it was all supposed to go rebuilding everything, it wasn't belonging to any one Horseman.
Pine needles. She picked them up and put them in with the pile. Yuzhi put her hands upon her waist and stared down at it. If she wasn't careful she wouldn't be able to carry it all back in one go, hm! "Why, Yuzhi, I'm disappointed in you," said Mengyao, in mock surprise, pressing a sleeve-covered hand against his chest, the other still waving the fan beside his face. "You honestly think I'm that useless? Of course I came to volunteer my services. And what better way to assist you than using the absolutely invaluable services of Hao here?"
Hao, down on the ground with a mouthful of leaves, only made a soft mewling noise. Mengyao's gaze flickered over to Tseng very briefly, tilting his head at the young man before looking back at Lifen beside him.
Or rather, not beside him, since she had moved away to put her own supplies with the rest, her dark hair falling over her pale shoulders. He waited patiently for her to return, slanting an amused look towards Lan in the process.
"My dear Lan, I am working," he said, and gestured with his fan towards the white creature on the ground, now carting around several more pine needles and a few leaves. "Can't you see how hard I'm working?"
Or not working, rather. Mengyao felt his lips twitch, a smirk forming on them, but Lifen had returned, and Mengyao felt decidedly comfortable, standing with the two horsemen on either side of him. Odd, that most of his friends seemed to be female (he could really do with some male friends), especially since Lan had a habit of being extraordinarily stubborn - and sometimes impossible - but he was glad to see that they had both survived.
And Yuzhi too, though Mengyao refrained from saying so. His dual colored eyes flickered down towards Lifen and Lan, the serene smile softening a little, sliding into a more serious expression.
"Sometimes making the best of a situation is just as difficult as being in the situation itself," he murmured, letting out his breath. He tucked his hands into his sleeves again, hiding the grey from view, and nodded towards Hao again, who was now gathering up a handful of thin, spindly pale leaves. His opinion of conquest horsemen had always been questionable, Fai thought, watching them curiously as they made their minipets do all of their work and stood around chatting as if this were a social gathering. He moved closer to them, not noticing how an entire vine slipped out of his scarf and floated in the air, watching everyone with a large, open mouth--
"Sal," Fai said. "You're attracting my precious's attention again. You know how it gets around blood." He looked curiously at the others. "And you are?" he asked the nobles, wondering how in Halloween they were supposed to be useful in reestablishing their lands. He noted the slab of rock he stepped on, then stepped off of it, planning on grabbing it later.

She busied herself more to ignore the threat of tears. Stupid emotions. She did not like having them. Yuzhi dug up two more slabs of stone and began to carry them back to her pile passing Mengyao as she did so as he spoke up she 'accidentally' turned and almost hit him with the longer side of the slabs. Yuzhi fixed her cousin with a flat stare as she spoke up, "Yes, well, I had hoped that you'd also use your 'invaluable' strength to lift heavy things, but it seems perhaps I had overestimated you. Again. Allow me to remedy that in the future."
In other words she felt Mengyao had no right to feel any disappointment when it came to her. None.
The 'tiny' Conquest Horseman then stormed to her pile to drop her two slabs and then sat on the ground her arms crossed over her chest. Yuzhi needed a moment to rest before she even thought of attempting to carry back her load. Tseng couldn't help but smile at Faiyum, but shook his head at his words. "I appreciate your concern, but I will be fine, " he said before glancing towards the others in the area. He frowned lightly at Mengyao, who seemed to not really want to help out all that much. "You aren't going to let your mini do all the work for you now are you? You're much bigger after all! " He basically had the same line of thought that his sister had. Spotting some small bones, he carefully bent down to scoop them up. "Salbei, that is a nice name." She lamented softly as she felt the gaze of the tall Famine boy, her eyes lowering in a bit of discomfort of being watched - outside of her works as an Artisan, she tried to meld in the background as much as she could, so being in such close scrutiny - even if it wasn't negative - made her a tad uncomfortable. But she willingly sucked it up, and gave the taller one a curt bow, awarding him with a soft smile. "Hua Lifen. I am called Lifen." Is all she stated bluntly, not sparing words.
"I do appreciate the assistance, it will be of great help." She finished, before the sound of Yuzhi's fussing caught her attention again, dual-coloured eyes drifting back over to her, in time to catch her little fit at her cousin. Eyebrows pinned eye, she looked between the two of them, wondering what she had missed, her mouse thinning in to a line, looking up at her friend, kind of in a "what did you do?" fashion, before walking forward again, hands out softly to Yuzhi, grabbing a few loose leaves to look like she was assisting, but truly to make sure she was okay.

The artisan's answer almost got a frown. Almost. But, Lan caught herself and masked it with a smile. She couldn't be so down after all. This was for the good of all of them. "A true member of conquest- We will manage and rise up once again. Even more glorious than before no doubt." The soft breeze made her shiver for a moment wrapping her arms around herself. This was not home but it had to be now. They didn't have a home any longer. It was gone, perhaps, forever. They had to make do. They just had to. Turning, Sal taking her hand in his, Lan covered her face in a small blush."Oh, I am guessing you are perhaps lead the reconstruction efforts? You carry yourself with a manner I usually see-" saw "-in my extended family." A look to Mengyao. "And others." As he Makini returned with more things to show off, Lan nodded, having the minipet place them in the growing pile. "I am sure if you ever need strong hands, Mengyao would be more than capable in assisting." A smile spread across her face as she nodded to her friend. Oh she knew he'd get her back but, that was just how things were. "I admit though, he's better with words than his hands. He could use the experience." Shikoba was restless to say the least. Grateful that they had all been relocated to a place with trees, but restless nonetheless. He could not stand by and mope and knew today that he was going to venture into the forest for something constructive. What he did not expect, however, was there to be a party already going on by then.
They were a noisy bunch; he could hear them long before he could see them. And the reason became apparent by the show of clothes, the haughty tone especially from one: Conquest. Several from other clans were also seen as he drew nearer, no doubt drawn in by the babbling as well. Did they not see it was a scavenging, not an outing? The only figure he recognized was the fleeting color splash from Xiomara - it was a little surprising that she would deign to such a job. Perhaps their new circumstances would soften her otherwise sharp edges.
In any case, Shikoba did not stop walking. The underbrush parted for the mountain of a man as he passed through the clearing the group was in, his eyes moving about in search of materials and never focusing on any one person; in fact, he strode as if they weren't there at all, moving between several people in spite of their conversations if it happened to be in his path.
He only stopped on the edges where, spying something, he squatted and pushed leaves away. An array of bones had been scoured by meat, on the whole no bigger than two lap-sized creatures. While he was unable to identify them, Shikoba reached out and gently touched a rib bone nonetheless, murmuring, "As in life you sustained a predator, so too in death will you help sustain us." Gingerly the bones were lifted into the bag, one by one or two by two.

Aww, Little was being so sweet! Her comforting gesture was met with an appreciative smile, and when she showed signs of distress (as much as she tried to hide it, glossy eyes weren't the easiest thing to hide he returned the favor by patting her head. It was a brief pat, just a couple gentle taps and then a more firm one to her shoulder, being nice and not using his recently bloodied hand on her pretty clothing.
"How kind! Thank you, sweetling." Lifen's compliment received a pleased smile and shortly after a small chuckle as she looked away. He found that sort of shyness absolutely endearing. He almost wanted to see just how shy she really was. Alas, there were distractions to be had, items to be recovered and a Lan to reply to. "No, Lady. I'm not leading anything, however the thought is sweet and I appreciate it. As for how I carry myself...well, perhaps that's just years of practice." He had no answer to that, but he was pleased with the way she reacted to him. He didn't approve of the work ethic, but some people had other uses.
"Now now," He tsked at both Yuzhi and Tseng, his self-appointed new friends. "Leave the poor man alone. Clearly he has no physical strength to endure such hardships." Sal sighed, leaning his cheek into his bloody hand as the subject changed to Mengyao. "It must be difficult for him to make it through the day with his deficiencies~" The Sage pressed his hand over his heart as if touched. "I commend your perseverance in merely surviving~" Because the Queen knew that in Famine, he wouldn't have survived a single day. Sal had tried to be nice, he was trying really hard to continue be nice; but he couldn't help the slip of sarcasm. Fai's voice cut through the air and the Sage turned to observe them, distracted from the irritatingly lazy Conquest creature.
"Fai, if precious so much as sniffs at me, I'm going to be having fresh salad for dinner tonight." He stared at the Alchemist and the plant on his head, his voice flat with a very real threat. B| Those plants. Those damned plants and their biting! It didn't stop him from backing up a couple paces, and that was what had him stumble on two new things; one, some dry moss similar to what Fai had picked up earlier, and two...someone new!
"Oh? What's this? Hello, stranger! Where did you come from?" Sal said to the dark skinned Shikoba with the slight keen of someone who just found a lost puppy.

There were two reactions she had when Lifen called out to her as she did. First she felt guilt because she had made Lifen concerned over her when, honestly, the other could be spending time worrying about gathering resources but then she also felt a bit of happiness that she had cared so much about her to show concern. Yuzhi offered her dear friend a strained but genuine smile, "Ah, Lifen, do not fret over my account. I apologize if my outburst has troubled you but that is just ...Mengyao and I doing as we usually do." It was amazing she didn't fall back on placing fault entirely on her Cousin.
She even stood up and wandered over toward Lifen and openly hugged her to reassure her even if the contact was brief, "I am just feeling stress is all. All of this change, I am just popping off over everything~," Yuzhi gave a quiet laugh as if trying to convince her friend (and herself) that everything was just fine. "I will be alright, Pretty Lifen. Just as you will be."
Her head tilted over toward Sal, "Mmm," she grumped quietly at him a little bit showing that she knew full well that her darling Cousin could do anything he set his mind to. The pats on the shoulder he had given prior had been accepted as long as it wasn't yet more head pats. A passing figure of a War Horseman caught her attention simply because she recognized this one but otherwise she didn't say anything to him and just let him do as he pleased for now. "Faiyum Riaz, and the pleasure is mine, I'm certain," Fai said with a slight nod at Lan before turning to his long time friend. "Really, Sal, after so long of knowing each other, don't you think you and precious should be on better terms?" he teased, more amused at the fact that he had broken the sage out of his smarm for a bit than anything else.
His foot brushed another slab of stone and he sighed, crouching down to pick both up and drag over to the pile of rocks. For such a short, skinny fellow he didn't see to have any trouble carrying the two slabs. Really, though, he thought as he looked at Sal, was now the time to be taunting people?
Although he always enjoyed a good taunt. He much preferred it to be a well timed taunt--except for Sal. He would always taunt Sal, regardless of the time.

Only when his items had been scooped up did Shikoba turn his head to the voice addressing him, apparently not bothered by the stumbling clansmen or the fact that he had blood coating him in places. "From the trees," he answered cryptically, plucking the colorful little leaves that had covered the bones to also place in the bag. And it was technically true in two ways: War was known for their jungles, and he had come through the forest to find them. Apparently most of this bunch seemed to know each other if what he listened to was right, though upon a second glance he saw a most distinct green coat on a most short ghoul.
"I see you have the Imp," he commented as he stood. While Shikoba meant it as humor, his face was still slated in that neutral expression. There was one who looked as though plants composed almost a third of his body as well. Famine always did have their strange appearances . . .Shikoba's Bag x1 Minipet bones x1 Wispy leaves (very flammable)
