"Oh, you may have misunderstood the metaphor. I was referring to different - er - techniques, not different genders," Jordan clarified helpfully.

"The misunderstanding is all his fault." She gestured accusingly at the small silver chain that disappeared into a pocket.
"Well, Byr's a male and uh... a jackalope, which are apparently very... eager to attempt to breed based on what he's telling me." She shook her head disapprovingly.

She frowned very deeply, "I apologize for the misunderstanding. He's very loud sometimes and it's difficult to tell the difference."

Rin smiled as she seemed to relax, "Man, why are you so much more rational and fun?"
"Is Harrison really trustworthy? Like, with Rep I mean." She asked thoughtfully, "I'm just trying to get a grasp on this whole thing."

Rin frowned again looking slightly ill.

Jordan snorted. "I find that getting along with people makes life a whole lot easier, along with being enjoyable."
More seriously, he said, "Yeah, he is. I don't believe he'd knowingly hurt Rep. If he wasn't also a decent guy, I wouldn't be dating him."

Rin smiled, "I just hope it works out really. Even if I can't stand that Harrison guy."
She visibly relaxed, "You're a good person and you got us out of that mission in one piece really. I appreciate that much, I just. He's my sun, you know? I'm going to have his back no matter what whether he appreciates it or not. I just hope I can get along with at least one of you along the way."

"I think we'll do okay." Jordan's smile softened briefly as he thought about his guys, expression unguarded for a few moments.
"Thanks," he said, returning his attention to the conversation. "Yeah, I get that. Keep him safe, okay? Harrison's going to grumble at both of us if Rep keeps forgetting to grab a Moon before he goes off to kill things. Got that lecture a few times already."

"Yeah, he's got me but I've been... well, this last mission I guess I failed to be there for him for most of it. Then when I finally was there I got too hurt to protect him." She frowned recalling Harrison's words, maybe they were true and she had failed on some cataclysmic level.

Rin nodded, that was exactly it, the overbearing self doubt ebbing away in the face of reality. He understood better than she did. He got it.
She smiled rather large at him - genuine but she still looked like she was about to cry, "Thank you, sir."
