It was kinda hard to miss a Gyarados in an area suffering from desertification, after all. "Yo." he said as he approached the boy. Seeing the boy favor his leg caught his eye. "I see you were a tasty snack for a Trapinch." he said. "Also, congrats on the Gyarados. Looks like you were able to tame it." 26

Tamed? Nolan looked way up at Dosu with the little Trapinch caught in his mouth. "I wouldn't say I really tamed him. He just likes me ... I think." "Gyraaaaaaa!" Dosu boomed overhead in a deafening roar, not quite yet adjusted to the amount of noise he could make now that he'd evolved. Nolan could only feel sorry for the green Trapinch. Not wanting to be caught with his pants down, so to speak, Nolan did his best to crawl out of the sand pit on his own. His shoe had protected him somewhat from the crunching force of the Trapinch, but he was going to have to look at the extent of the damage sooner or later. Putting on a brave face, Nolan nodded once he was out. But his curiosity was still burning. "What kind of fossil did you find in the Ruins?" Bothered by the gritty taste of sand, Dosu spit out the Trapinch on the ground near Nolan, and the little pokemon bounced once, not moving. It was still alive, yet dazed from the bite and from being roared at. Nolan wasn't sure what to do with it, yet he did stock back up on pokeballs. Little did he know that Trapinch didn't normally come in that color, and he casually tossed a red and white capsule at it. Dosu still just wasn't used to being so huge, and having a bird's eye view over everything. The Gyarados was the one that closely watched the pokeball wiggle and shake. If that Trapinch got out, it would probably be lunch by how intently Dosu was focused on it. Nolan had his own problems. Yet the pokemon was caught and swiftly transported to his PC for later. Another successful capture, not that he needed another Ground type pokemon at all - Nolan just couldn't leave it there, or worse yet, let Dosu eat it. From Champs in TrainingPost 217 Chael would soon find himself on the familiar route. He had healed his Pokemon and made a stop by the Pokemart as well. He'd probably be set on Pokeballs for a while. Catching would be quite easier. His hoard of Pokemon followed around, with Fear being on his shoulder. Bruce had evidently evolved into a Gurdurr. Well, that was what the Pokedex said at least. He caught sight of Nolan and walked over, also noting the one guy from the ruins. The guy always seemed to have something bothering him, probably a cynic. "Hey Nolan, I see you found the Pokemon Ranger." he said, Argos crossing his arms at the landscape. Obviously not wet enough for his standards. But luckily he didn't live here, so the Pokemon could afford being here. Nolan was starting to get really, really easy to spot - just look for the big, blue Gyarados and sure enough, Dosu's trainer would be nearby. Happy to see Chael again, Nolan gave a wide grin and waved cheerfully as the other trainer approached. Would he ever be in a bad mood again? Well, that remained to be seen. "Yeah, I did. This is Lukas." And introducing them to each other, he continued, "Lukas, this is Chael, one of my new friends." Twill was following Chael, flying overhead and reunited with her trainer, she plopped down on the Gyarados, perched on Dosu's crest. She squawked at Nolan and ruffled her feathers before she started to preen her wings and tail - probably as much of a happy greeting he was going to get from her. "Um, ready for the next gym? I read it was a Steel type, although it's been Fire in the past. I've been meaning to ask someone, but what in the world is good against Steel types? Isn't that pretty much better than Rock?" It seemed picking her was a good choice. She had been a life saver in the previous gym and would be one again. And if the gym was Fire type, Chael had Argos. "Oh, you've met?" It didn't quite dawn on him yet, that this was the same Ranger that Chael mentioned having a blue electric dog. He was already distracted by other thoughts. Namely, fire moves? Nolan wilted. He didn't have a single fire type and he wasn't even sure he could handle one. Much less, he didn't know if any of his pokemon would learn a fire move. Would Luxio, an electric type like Blitzle? He doubted that. Stumped, Nolan scratched the back of his head. "Then ... I guess I had better catch a fire pokemon soon. Um, do you have any good ideas what I could catch? Any suggestions maybe?" Sadly he had been preoccupied with getting water to say hello. "Consideing it's still morning, you shouldn't have a problem finding one." Lizzy would trot around, happy how much help she had been. Then with a water gym, she'd he invaluable. Electric types seemed pretty helpful to have in Etrua. "Torkoal? Well that sounds okay. What do they look like?" Nolan shaded his eyes from the bright sunlight and gazed out over the area. It was still a funny mix of scraggly trees, some little oasis of grasses spread here and there, and pits of sand. Nolan made sure not to put much weight on his right leg, and instead, having an idea, he motioned Dosu to come in closer. Curious, the Gyarados ducked his head down, flustering Twill from the sudden dive. Nolan had to think about this for a minute, but eventually, he grabbed onto Dosu's crest, displacing Twill's spot. She cawed at him, not at all being a lovely songbird, and she flew back to another of Dosu's back fins. "Up, please." Dutifully, Dosu lifted his head up high, putting Nolan at a dizzying twenty feet off the ground and he again scanned the horizon. "I see ... um, some squat yellow pokemon in that direction." He pointed one way. "Some green grass pokemon huddled over there in the sand." Nolan pointed again. "Some kind of round brown pokemon in the shade, and a ... well, something shiny and metal over there." Post 220 Well, how to describe it? He thought for a moment as Nolan got a lift from Dosu, he thought he heard the Gyarados's name was. "Imagine a red turtle that walks on all fours! With a coal colored shell!" Chael would say, loudly. He didn't know if Nolan could hear a normal talking tone all the way up there. So best to raise his voice just in case. When Nolan said what he saw, Chael heard a mumble from up there. The other trainer WAS about twenty feet in the air now. Then Lizzy began to glow wildly. A yellow aura overtook her being, soon not being visible under the light. It looked like her body morphed, growing from a pony shape into a real stallion. The light faded, leaving a Zebstrika in her place. Lizzy had evolved. "Doo dee doooo doo doo dee doo dee doooooo. Your Blitzle has evolved into Zebstrika." his Pokedex said, electronic device silencing after. So the Gyarados wasn't fully tamed? Hmm... this could prove beneficial. Now if he could just get the Water-type to go on a rampage in one of the cities... "Oh, it was an Old Amber. Aerodactyl would make an interesting addition to the party." he said cheerfully. Someone else showed up, and Des recognized him as the kid at the Ruins. Chael or something. It looked like they were talking about the upcoming Gym. "Ammoa's gym is one of the unique ones in the region. It's got two types instead of one, though I hear they switch between the two types every year. This year should be the Steel-type... In that case, a Torkoal would come in handy. You can also find Slugma and Numel around here. Slugma's pure fire that evolves into Macargo and gains a Rock sub-type. Numel is Fire/Ground. I suppose Darumaka works too, since he's a Fire-type as well. And... if you go past Addobe into Route 4, I think you can find Pansear, which are fire monkeys that evolve via Fire Stone. They're a little harder to find though." He paused for a moment, then added. "Steel's also weak to Ground and Fighting and resists pretty much everything else except for Water and Electric-type attacks. You don't have the badges to get any Fire-type TMs, so you'll have to make due with a Pokemon." Des would probably pick up a Numel, as they were fairly strong and had good defenses. Oh, so he was looking for a pokemon with a shell. Yelling back this time, Nolan told Chael, "I think I see something like that over by the shiny metal thing out there!" Now Nolan had no trouble with heights, but he was surprised when he glanced down, a shine of light catching his eye. Blitzle was evolving right then and there! Nolan got so entranced that he nearly fell right off of Dosu's head, and that scared him, getting his heart really pumping. Giddy still, he laughed meekly, and got a better grip. "Down, please, Dosu." The Gyarados let him down like some kind of blue elevator, but instead of sliding off, Nolan moved to straddle on the lower half of Dosu's body. Sitting made it so his ankle didn't hurt so much. "Congratulations, Blitzle, on evolving!" And listening to Des, Nolan's eyebrows shot up in surprise, and he adjusted his glasses higher up on his on his nose. He knew what was an Aerodactyl. "Interesting? Try awesome instead. That's a great fossil pokemon. I've only seen them in books, and I can't wait to see one in the flesh." Not to be outdone, Nolan's Taillow squawked and dove down at the new Zebstrika, trying to keep up with all the evolving. Now it was the bird's turn to shine brightly, and as she swooped up, the light broke, revealing a brand new Swellow. Much larger, much faster, she sang cheerfully and did huge circles up overhead in happiness. Loop the loops, dives and spirals, Nolan got caught up in the moment. "Wow ... I love it when a pokemon evolves. Well, I have a couple ground pokemon, but I can't just use my Hippopotas alone. Come on, I'm going to go catch that Torkoal. Onwards, Dosu! My fine Gyarados friend!" "Gyshaaaaaaaa!"Nolan nearly fell over when Dosu started, moving serpentine over the ground in the direction they had spotted the shelled pokemon. The Gyarados certainly was acting tame, but it was much too soon to really tell. Post 221 The hooves were off... so to speak. Lizzy nudged her trainer, nearly knocking the eleven year old over. After all, she was a fully grown equestrian now. Of course Argos was nearing his final evolution. However the water type didn't want to evolve.... yet. He wanted to beat that Charmander to a pulp still and doing it as a Feraligatr would be less impressive. Once it evolved into a Charmeleon, he'd beat it THEN evolve. An Aerodatcal and a Swelliw. It seemed none of Chael's Pokemon could learn Fly. Well that was troubling. (Don't tell him about Golurk and Fly. Post 222 With a nod of thanks, Chael figured out what was happening. Letting Lizzy kneel down, he soon got on her, Fear still on his shoulder. Recalling Argos, Tsuki, Bruce, and Epsilon, Lizzy galloped to the Gyarados. She was pretty fast, forcing him to hang on tight for fear of falling off. After getting used to it he loosened his grip, receiving much thanks from Lizzy. "So, plan on challenged the gym today? I mean at this rate all our Pokemon will be fully evolved and still not at the third gym." Chael asked. He had every intent on challenging the gym. Hopefully it wouldn't be another sub. The last one indirectly called him arrogant. That guy he met earlier today? Now THAT was being arrogant. Another person he didn't like here. Three days here and Chael had made five enemies already. Wonderful.
