Tide steadily plodded after his daughter. Coming up behind her a minute or two late to survey his son, mate and the purple stallion. "He helped her and did it in a polite way, does not seem evil. Descent intentions, good enough for me." The black stallion said. "Oh and Kai, your lucky that was not a long lost relation, they may have whupped your butt..if we had any. Words first son...most of the time."
Kai puffed up, seemed about to say something and stopped to sulk instead.
Ka looked over the new stallion. He was quite large and powerful looking. Combine him and his mate and Ka was very happy they were on his side..or so it seemed. He looked Tempest over thoroughly. Her tears had left barely discernable marks at least they seemed to be drying. He snorted at Kai in a huff.
Tide took this opportunity to plaster himself against his mate. It was actually his favorite spot.

Tempest flicked her ears forward as she trotted over past her family over to Ka. She had been around him enough to gain his scent and finding it was quite easy among her family. Her tail flicked as she nosed him over a little giving a brief grunt. "Are you all right, Ka?" Her brow creased a little as if forgetting about her parents for a while.
Kainda looked toward her mate with a gentle grunt though her eyes glittered with excitement to see him. She reached over and nipped at his forelock gently as he came next to her. "Your father is right, Kai. I am just glad the both of you are not injured." She turned her attention back to the stranger. "I do apologize for jumping you earlier. I thank you for taking my daughter home to us." Kainda then looked to her son sternly as if expecting him to do the same. If he was raised right - and damn well which he was - he would do so without a fuss.

"I am fine Tempest, and apparently I have passed the gauntlet." Ka eyed the assembled warily. After all the excitement he was a tad edgy understandably. It was better now that Tempest was back he at least knew her somewhat. Her mother was certainly intimidating, her father seemed to gravitate toward her mother like an orbiting planet on a crash course. He was a big stallion too. Her brother was a fiery pain in the butt or so he came across to Ka.
Kai pinned his ears back and ducked his head. "Im sorry for jumping you." Kai knew when he was beat. Mother had the upper hand after all. Despite his heart pride he looked over the newcomer and thought he was alright.
Tide hummed at his mate happily. He was always happier with her around, drama or no drama. And she was frightfully beautiful when she was mad. Tide grinned to himself.

Kainda gave a nod of approval toward Kai. Manners were never her son's strong suit, but he did what he could and he always owned up to what he did - rather proudly sometimes. The mare gave a snort looking over toward her mate who seemed to be on another planet. She nipped his ear to get him back to their reality before looking back over to the stranger. "So, I suppose I am safe in saying that you have no place to stay correct? I am sure my mate and I could find someplace for you to rest that will provide shelter in case it ever rains again." Kainda looked over to Tide giving him a bit of a look as if to inquire if he knew of anywhere close. She knew that Tempest would probably want to see more of this stallion.
Tempest for once laughed at Ka. He was so funny sometimes and he could be cute with his naivety even when he didn't mean it. Her nostrils flared taking in his scent as she rested her head against his neck as if in a hug. At her mother's suggestion, Tempest couldn't help but snap her neck up almost hitting Ka with her snout. "Really? Do you think he could stay, Mom? Dad? I mean I know you guys were talking about getting me a guard since Kai has a girlfriend now..." Tempest trailed off a little though her face had a hopeful glean to it. She did truly want Ka to stay close. And if he were her guard, it would give him an excuse to come back and see her. The mare began to wiggle a little with excitement.

Tempest was very close to him now, she had even hugged him which he had to admit had been very enjoyable. He found it quite interesting that her parents had discussed getting her a guardian. Well more of a seeing eye friend. He had a feeling she could take care of herself after all she had grown up with Kai. If anyone needed a guardian it was probably him. Ka smiled when Kainda tugged on Tide's ear.
Ka's yellow eyes watched Tempest's parents sharply. "You would offer me a place to stay? Really?" None so far had offered to share their homes with the wild type easterner. Ka was a hint suspicious but if they were Tempest's parents then how bad could they be. "Would it be close to Tempest?" He really did like her company. She was fresh like rain on new grass.
"I think he could stay, I think you deserve a companion Tempest. Perhaps he could bunk under one of the nearby pines if Ion's snoring is too offensive for him." Tide could only say this because he snored just as loudly as his older brother.
Kai mumbled something about a patrol and buggered back up the hill. This conversation had become a tad boring and there were horizons, over that horizon!

Oh yes. The snoring. The mare wondered how on earth she had stayed with her male that long. She took one look at his physique and all the details and very intimate details came back to her. Ahhh the sweetness of being mated to a virile male. Kainda gave a quick snort to snap herself back to attention watching her son sulk off to patrol. He seemed touchy lately but then again he was a young male. She wondered how she acted during that time. "Yes, boy. Are you hard of hearing as well as touched in the head?" The mare teased nipping her mate's ear again. "You can be close to Tempest as warranted." There was a bit of warning in her voice as she eyed her only daughter with protection. Kainda had a horn and she wasn't afraid to use it.
Tempest glowed with a bit of excitement as they were discussing the details of where Ka would stay. It was quite thrilling to have her new friend home and to think he'd help her get around! Her ears flicked hearing her brother mumble and soon he was out of earshot. She simply guessed he had gone off because of the mention of his new girl. The mare gave a bit of a snarky snort not even thinking about Kai at the moment. He was such a brat sometimes. Tempest turned her attention back to her friend. "Well, shall we get you to your quarters then, Guardian Ka Valko?" She used his proper title with a hint of teasing and maybe even something more as she headed toward the familiar hill that lead up to herd lands. She couldn't help but be in high spirits - really high spirits.

Ka gave Kainda a look. Touched in the head? Certianly not him. He was considered quite bright but he had been out of the social circles for a bit. Apparently he had some work to do about that.
Ka grinned at Tempest. Little Rascal she was. "Why yes Mistress Tempest lets go have a look at my new quarters. He nodded deeply to each of her parents in turn and as they walked away he asked, " I don't have to sleep with Kai do I? Does he snore?" That would be Ka's worse nightmare, having to sleep beside the big orange brute that he had unintentionally pissed off. To top it all off if the idiot snored he would never get any sleep.

Tempest's parents let them be as they strode up the hill until it leveled off. If her memory served her correctly, he would be staying in the pines where visitors and most of the other stallions stayed. She would, however, try and put him as close as possible to where he could easily reach her - and her him if she needed of course. Her ears flicked at his question causing her to laugh. "Oh Ka...Hmm I just thought about that. Ka, Kai...it might get confusing around here." The mare teased snorting as she giggled. She strode toward the left of the middle tree that held all the foals and blankets of past babes - her and her brother's included. The mare had often felt safe by that big old tree, and she had made many trips to it to talk - as if it were her friend.
Their walk brought them to the pines that her father was referring off. Tempest had to walk a little ways up before she couldn't smell any of stallions' past scents. "Here you are, Ka. This is kinda downwind from mostly everyone save my brother and a few of my cousins, but you'll have a bit of privacy. However, we'll always know where you'll be." Tempest gave a whicker pawing at the ground a little to cause a divot - more for her than her him anyway. "The closest neighbor you have will be my Uncle Hellfyre and possibly some of his sons. I know Ka stays further down from you on the other side but I think you two will be all right." Hopefully... She thought in her mind giving a bit of a sigh an a grunt before looking back toward him. "Will this be all right for you, Ka?" Tempest asked tilting her head toward him. "OH! I Almost forgot - if you keep heading straight I will be a little on the right of you. I am opposite of my brother." She gave a nod and chuckled. "Doubt you'll miss me though. I'm not as small as I used to be." The mare flicked her ears as she whickered a giggle. "So, any questions?"

Ka padded around his tree.. Hmm yes this was a cozy spot. It felt great to have a home. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. The tangy scent of pine met his nostrils as well as the delicate scent of Tempest herself. Underneath all that he could just barely smell her brother. Oh well he was too far away to hear if he snored, he grinned. "This is perfect thank you." The ground was soft and well padded with a thick belt of dropped pine needles. This herd certainly lived more comfortably then most. "Would you like to show me around? So I know who my neighbors are so they don't attack me?" he nudged her playfully in jest.

Tempest was satisfied that her guardian was now satisfied. At least he had a place to rest his weary head at the end of days or simply nap if the afternoon heat called for it. Ka turned out to be a male that was easy to please but Tempest feared he may be too easy which made her wonder about him. At his question, she opened her mouth to protest and simply shut it quickly. She knew this land just as well as anyone with eyes and her smell was better than most. "I'd love to." The mare said with a bit more confidence feeling her cheeks heat at his nudge. She simply bumped him with her waist causing her hip to hit his chest as she turned to start walking. "We have Uncle Ion - the one with the black and white coat that look like they are melting together, Uncle Hellfyre - You'll know him when you see him because of his markings, Aunt Opal - Uncle Ion's mate, and of course Mom, Dad, and Kai. Then there are my cousins which there would be too many to name and we would be here all day. And sometimes we have Gabrielle who is the mother of Uncle Hellfyre's second batch of children and Prism, the Father of the first batch. Out of everyone, Uncle Hellfyre has had the most!" Tempest gave a bit of a snort remembering growing up with some and helping to babysit others. "Our herd is large simply because of the children. Whether they stay or not is up to them." She explained as they walked pointing out the few that she had mentioned before as either Uncle, Aunt, or Cousin. She then explained how she knew which was which based on not only voice but smell and vibration of the ground. "Sometimes, Uncle Ion walks really heavy and Uncle Hellfyre's trot has a certain ring and music to it. Aunt Opal is very quiet and I just know Mom, Dad, and Kai by heart." Tempest gave a giggle as they stopped by the huge tree again. "These are all the blankets..." She leaned over sniffing and shuffling around with her nose before she picked up a black one with white stripes and green trimming. "Fis un ish fine." She said through a full mouth letting Ka see the pattern before putting it back down where she found it. "And the orange one close to it is my brother's. We keep the siblings' blankets close together. It's a tradition." Tempest gave a grin before allowing herself to breath. "Whew! I've done a lot of talking. I'm sorry. I must bore you." The mare felt her cheeks heat up as she looked away a little quickly feeling the wind against her face as it danced and played in her mane and tail. If only she could see herself now...how beautiful she truly was if only she would allow herself to see.

Ka watched her in fascination. How she had pinpointed all the tiny little differences in the gaits of her family was simply astounding. To have that fine attention to detail would be an exceptional gift. He tried like mad to hear the musical step in Hellfyre’s gate when the stallion trotted by him a suspicious glare on his face. Apparently he had fire in his name for a reason. Ka thought he may have heard a little music but it was so faint he was not sure, that and he had been distracted by the appearance of the stallion. Ka enjoyed looking over the blankets. They were so colorful and ...numerous. This was a big herd. Her blanket described the mare she had become quite well. However it failed to interpret the bright shine in her unseeing eyes. That was all her own. He nudged her blanket with the proper amount of admiration. Ka sneered slightly at the orange blanket. Ahh yes blatantly orange that described her brother alright. “You would never bore me Tempest, I find all this family stuff interesting actually. Ours were never quite this close. Of course the small family units were but the bigger extended families minded their own business for the most part..” His voice cracked a bit at the end when the wind caught in herhair and he stared at her. The wind tousled her mane playfully then flowed it down her back in a most sensual manner that had him leaving his mouth open. “You are a gorgeous being, you know that right?

The mare gave a greeting to her uncle as he passed by. She flicked her tail bobbing her head in tune with his steps. She flashed him a smile and wished him a good day as he went along to do his business. Tempest flicked her ears forward to catch Ka's words. It saddened her each time she heard that most families weren't as close as hers. It was alien to her to not have her uncles and aunts around as well as her cousins. Sure they were extended but they were still family. She giggled a little while hearing his attitude toward her brother's blanket. "Kai is..he means well. He's my only brother and I his only sister. We look out for each other - him more than me!" The mare gave a gentle whinny of a laughter pawing at the ground a bit. "Tell me about your herd, Ka. How did it function? Did you have any rules and regulations? What about hierarchy?...Ka what's wrong? Did you lose your voice?" She caught some of his words but became slightly worried when he ended so abruptly. It was his next statement that made her flush tremendously. "I...I thank you for such kind words, Ka. I suppose everyone has a beauty in their own right." The mare quirked her mouth a bit as if unsure at how to take the compliment and yet beaming all the while. He was...something himself.

"Well um in my herd there was a ruling family. Which coincidentaly I was a part of. Sort of a prince-ish thing you might say. We ruled over three other families who ruled over their own three. All wanted to combine their lot with my family. Mostly doing so through me. You see if they could lifemate one of their daughters to me, they would gain standing within the herd. Thing is I got so tired of being hounded like a beast that I left. Im sure many were nice fillies but we could scarcely have a conversation without either said fillies parents or a small horde from another family interupting us. I was lucky if i got her name and a snippet of history, nevermind if we had anything in common at all. Here is much more quieter." He puffed out a sigh of contentment. His breath mingling with the sweetness of hers.

Tempest was surprised to hear of Ka's origins. So apparently she had bumped into a royal mess so to speak. "Gee sounds like something my uncles would have had to go through." The thought of her uncles being ruled over by a main stallion just made her giggle a little. The three of them would have probably caused such a distress and an uprising that the ruling family may leave the lot of them alone. However, as Ka continued his story, she felt an understanding of how it must feel to be hounded for a marriage. "I couldn't imagine that...I doubt I'd be much of a prize, but I understand the use of children in such manners. I've heard stories of how children were married off to warring herds in order to maintain peace. Sometimes it worked and other times it backfired. Or the lovers ran away in order to avoid the family all together." Then she turned toward Ka tilted her head a little with interest. "Did you run away then in order to start something of your own? I'm sure your parents miss you terribly never mind the other families you could do without. Did you have any siblings or were you an only child?" Tempest flicked her tail a little keeping close as she used her nose to smell him. His scent was strong and familiar to her now, ears forward listening to his voice. She wondered what it would have been like to be in his position having many males come up to her hand only for the use of power that was tied to her birth. It made her feel all the more dirty and useless. She could only imagine what it was for Ka. He probably took it a lot better than she. "Maybe if they had let you make your own decisions and pick your own bride, you would have been better off and still at home." The thought pained her a little for she would have never gotten the chance to know him, but it was better than being away from your family and friends in a strange land where you knew no one.

"I just wanted to be free at first. But as the nights got longer I yearned for company. I was an only child but I was never really alone at home. They never would have changed it was too ingrained in them. They may miss me but I don't think I am the only foal anymore. I'm sure they have attempted to replace me by now. With offspring that are less rebellious. In any case I am glad I am here and away from the closterphobia. Its so light and airy here. "
