Danny shook her head and smiled. Lovestruck Rikki was adorablestruck Rikki, and he definitely only got that way with minipets. Not even her. Just minipets.
Damn minipets.
She patted the bed for him to sit down, because he was clearly going to fall over and die of how cute this jackin' kitten was. Look at him, he was practically in cardiac arrest as we speak.
"Otso? Sounds weird," she said. At this point she really couldn't see the kitten as anything but "kitty." "Why Otso?"

Rikki turned and fell on his back on the bed, tucking the kitten on his chest and stroking it adoringly.
Seriously, awww.
"It's the name of a character in a story Tellervo used to read to me at bedtime. He'd tuck me in an tell me about the little bear Otso who got lost, but he was so brave that he traveled for four days and four nights to find his home." He looked at the kitten curled on his chest with a sad, fragile smile as he remembered. "It was my favorite story. He must have told it to me a thousand times. I haven't heard it in years."

Danny tucked her head on Rikki's shoulder, careful that her horns wouldn't gouge his cheeks out, while also curling up next to him. Her hand snaked across his stomach and rested gently his hip.
We all knew what she was going to say.
"Tell it."

He frowned up at the ceiling. Tell it? Could he possibly just tell it? He thought of all the times, all the nights, that he had been tucked into bed nice and tight while Tellervo sprawled next to him. They would both look at the glow in the dark pumpkins that used to be stuck to Rikki's ceiling and he would remain absolutely quiet as he listened with rapt attention. Tellervo was a good story-teller. He had a flair for it. More often than not, Rikki was lulled to sleep by the sound of his brother's voice before he'd ever reached the end of the story, and he would dream of the little bear who found his way home.
"I can't," his voice broke. Maybe one day he could. Maybe to his scarelings. But not tonight.
"You don't have to name him Otso," he stammered on. "I just like the name."

Oh no. OH NO. RIKKI PHYSICALLY COULD NOT TELL THE STORY, AND SHE WAS RENDERING HIM IMMOBILE BY FORCING HIM.
"Jack! Rikki I'm so sorry please don't die you don't have to tell the story," she wibbled. He said it so clearly. "I can't." Someone must've been hunting him down waiting for the story. Maybe he had a mold disease that only got triggered when he told the story of OTSO THE DEATH BEAR.
She clung to him a bit tighter and said, "It can be Otso, you don't have to tell the story, please don't dieeeeeeeee."

He couldn't stop the little chuckle that erupted from him, and he turned on his side to look at Danny. He was being a sissy, but he just wasn't ready to truly revisit that memory yet. "I'm not going to die," he laughed, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear with a gentle sweep of his fingers. "I do like the name Otso though, so if you like it then I suppose he has a name."
He scratched the kitten behind the ear lightly and grinned at it. "Little Otso, hm?"

"Mmm," Danny agreed, reaching an arm out to pet the cat. It was obvious how much more Otso preferred Rikki's stroking to her own. Otso had already picked his favorite apparently.
Her eyes caught a small pile of pins sitting on her desk and she was reminded all at once that there was something she hadn't done yet. Not because she didn't want to, she just ... hadn't remembered. Ignorant forgetfulness. She summoned the tiny pin in the palm of her hand held it up to Rikki's face so he could see it.
"Um here. Sorry I kept forgetting ... If you don't want it that's okay ..." Her eyes flashed something mischievous, using the exact same line she'd convinced him to play casketball with. "'But you want it, right?"

Rikki's eyes went wide and he wrapped his fingers gently around the little pin, momentarily struck speechless. There just weren't words for these kinds of situation. "Of course I want it, Danny. Thank you." He gave her a quick, sweet kiss and smiled against her lips.

Danny smiled and kissed him a few time back, wrapping her hand around his and getting more comfortable against his body.
After a few seconds, she said, "So Wild Ghoul ..."
