She felt the rumble of his voice against her as he spoke and a smile crept up into her face, reaching and warming her eyes. She watched him speak, making the words out as he moved his mouth. Looking down to Binky she gave a nod. "Binky, go ahead and tell my father that I'll be coming home in a few.. Also find Lady Shoshana and have her meet us as well if you'd please." Binky took no time standing around and just gave a nod before leaving. She looked back up in time to catch his question. "I'm sure they would welcome you as they did my father.. The lead mare's sweet and generous. You'd just have to talk to her and as we haven't had any new joiners outside of births in a while.. I'm not sure what rituals there might be for one not born to the herd. All the same I'm sure it won't be anything horrible she might ask of you." Turning, she bumped him lightly with her nose. "Just follow me."

As the love of his life spoke to her tiny little friend, he couldn't help but stare at her in silent wonder. How did he ever get her to be interested in him? Alright so sure, he had good looks, but those only got you so far. Cedric had always tried to do his best at being a charming, gracious stallion, but his genes always held him back - he was always a silly foal pretending to be a chivalrous knight! And yet...here they were...the oaf and his silent beauty.
He could talk to her, and she'd have no idea what he was saying - if she wasn't looking at him - and that made him possibly love her even more than he had ever hoped to love another. There was a huge stamp of innocence in that fact, and he wanted to be the one to protect her from harm. Sure, she was tough...he couldn't deny that! - But there was something about her inability to hear that made him want to guard her forever.
Not that he'd ever let her see him say that...
"She'd ask me questions? What kind of questions?" Cedric stammered, looking at the beautiful mare with disbelief. She had said it wasn't going to be hard, of course, but still...he couldn't just...stay? Did all herds have this rule? Cedric pondered the thought - he never quite asked his parents, nor was he ever around anyone with a herd status. He sighed and followed closely behind her, wondering what kind of surprises awaited him when they arrived.

She lead him through the familiar paths past bushes and trees into a small thicket that had been hidden by tall dense bushes. His concern he'd voiced had gone unnoticed as she lead him onward. It wasn't too far of a walk and they made it to where she was heading. There she saw her father, the massive gray stallion with the short tail and fluffy forelock that fell in his eyes. There beside him was a small dusty rose colored mare. She was slightly smaller than the average mare, her white mane and tail adorned with roses. "We're here." She chimed cheerfully in that husky deeper female voice she had and trotted forward to greet her father affectionately. He'd been curious as to why Binky had run ahead giggling more than usual. And even more curious when Binky had said that Idonea was returning home so soon and with some one in tow. His expression was shock how ever to see her in the company of a smaller stallion. His expression softened for his daughter as he nuzzled her in return, greeting her as he had always done since she'd been brought to live with him by her mother. "It's good to see you again, And who is your companion?" He'd waited till he was certain she'd see him speak before asking his question. She smiled as she saw the two approaching. It wasn't everyday that she saw Idonea so happy lately it had been something she'd worried over. Granted she wasn't the mare's mother, she had had a hoof in her raising though. When Shilo had brought both his daughters and their mother back with him, she'd had a roll in their up bringing as the lead mare to this herd. The herd's children in many ways were like her own and as such, she'd always tried to take care of them. Her happiness was a good thing to see. "Greetings, and welcome back dear." She smiled and gave Idonea her own greeting. One big happy family.. That's what this hers was like even though not all were related by blood they were united like a family non the less.

It wasn't that far of a walk, which was both good and bad, he pondered. He wanted to rest now that his traveling days were over, and so he was looking forward to the end of the walk; and yet, he knew at the end stood her father and the herd leader....which terrified him. Was he ready? Probably not. Would he respect them and do as best a job he could? Of course!
So the stallion stayed behind her, his mind racing with a million different scenarios with what was to come. Each one bigger and scarier than the rest.
But nothing prepared Cedric for what he actually saw. Before him stood a giant stallion - bigger than his own father or any other stallion he'd ever seen. Sure, Idonea was a draft herself, and she was rather large for her gender, but this...this was....unreal. Idonea's father looked rather surprised to see Cedric, which was understandable, but Cedric was reassured to see that he wasn't angry. Or at least, if he was, the feeling wasn't obvious.
But there was a definite similarity between Idonea and this stallion. He was most definitely her father. The way they greeted each other made the smaller stallion think of his own sister and her relationship with their father. It was heart-warming to know that this family was so close!
Then the stallion's attention turned to the smaller mare, who wore flowers the same way his own mother did. She was pretty, very much indeed, but he'd dare not say that out loud in front of Idonea's father. The very last thing he wanted was for his love's father to get a bad impression. So he smiled at the older mare, and nodded his head in recognition and greeting. "It's a pleasure to meet you both," he spoke softly, turning his head from Shoshana to Shilo then back to Idonea. Cedric wasn't sure if he was overstepping his boundaries by talking when not spoken to, but he figured it wasn't going to kill him. After all, his parents always told him it was polite to introduce oneself before the other has to ask it of you. "My name is Cedric."

She turned around after nuzzling her father affectionately. "This is Cedric." She looked between Cedric and the group that made up her father and the herd's leader. "He's.. Well He's why I was sneaking offf.. And no.. no funny business.." She thought she might as well set her fither's mind to ease right away. He'd feared this was who this stallion was. He'd stood by his heart broken daughter when she had feared the worst.. comforted her as she cried over this boy.. and here he was.. before them. She'd taken him back after all.. Just when she'd convinced herself to try and move on he'd come back into her life. The look he gave as this rolled through his mind was rather less than pleasant. For once his usual lopsided grin was replaced with a stern line in his jaw and though his forelock his his eyes.. the warmth within them was more chilled. He was dubious as to why this Stallion was here now, though he wasn't going to run him off just yet.. He wanted to hear from the boy's own mouth why he'd returned to his daughter after leaving her heartbroken. She could feel the tension in the stallion beside her. And why not? She'd known him for a long time in these lands and he'd often come to her with his own concerns from time to time. There was something being unsaid right now and that tension seemed to be building in the air.
Trying to keep a level head about her, she smiled to their new visitor. "Greetings, Cedric. Welcome to the Primrose and Hope herd's lands. Will you be staying long? Or is this a short little visit?" It was only right that she ask such a question so she could gather just how to go about things with this meeting.

No funny business.
Cedric's heart dropped as he heard his beloved speak those words. There hadn't been many times where he had to deal with fathers of brothers of mares he encountered before he met her, so he had no experience with the matter. However, the words 'no funny business' never had a positive connotation to them, in any situation. They usually meant that said holder of the 'funny business' was known to get a little wild and crazy when provoked.
Ah, the joys of being a father, he mused. And his head sank.
The look on the larger stallion's face said more than Cedric could ever have dreamed a stallion could do. He had pondered over her father's reaction for quite some time, but it did not compare to the actual look. Was he...disappointed, that Cedric was here? Was he angry that Idonea decided to bring him around the herd? Although the expression on Shilo's face said a lot, Cedric really wasn't sure exactly what it was.
"Thank you very much, ma'am; sir. I...," he paused, unsure on how to continue. His parents hadn't a large place to call home, and all his brothers and sisters left the nest. There was no real reason, other than to see his parents, for him to go back home and stay home. Cedric wanted to make a life for himself, and he wanted that life to be with Idonea. He wanted to make her happy in any and every way he could, no matter what they meant. But he hadn't considered staying in her herd lands for a extended period of time, like Shoshana seemed to be asking. Would they even let him stay?
"I'd love to stay as long as I am welcome." Cedric finally decided, nodding happily between the 3 of them. He then turned to Idonea and made sure to wait until she was looking at him again before continuing, "of course, if that is what you want. This is your herd."
And now to address the giant elephant in the room.
Turning his attention completely and utterly to Shilo, he made sure Idonea wasn't able to read his lips to catch what he was about to say. It was important, very much so, but he wanted it to be personal to Shilo, and if she asked later, he'd tell her. But for now, Shilo needed the truth.
"I am truly sorry for what I did to Idonea, sir. If I could go back in time, I'd fix things. But I didn't leave for a bad cause, nor did I mean to be gone for as long as I was. I met...family. And she was in need of my help. I do not regret helping my aunt, but I do regret hurting Idonea. I'll regret it for the rest of my life." There was a different time and place for other words, he thought, because Shilo probably did not want to hear how they confessed their feelings quite yet. For now, hopefully this would do.

She couldn't help but to beam at him when she say the words he spoke. "Of course it'd be alright with me.. that is.. if as long as Lady Sho isn't too put off.. after all I am but apart of this herd.. and she.. she is our leader." She danced from hoof to hoof in her excitement till she turned her head to see the look on her father's face. She knew why he held that scowl. She'd always figured this might be a small root sticking up in the path.. but it was one to be delt with all the same if things were ever going to move on. "Daddy.. He's told me why... and.. I understand.. I'd have done the same if mother needed me... or my sister.. and you.. you'd have done the same if it was Ali.. No?" Family... that was something he understood. Did he not own up to his own deeds and step up when news that he was a father came to him? He did.. and he wouldn't think anything less of anyone else who was stallion enough to see a family member in need and help them out. If it was something he couldn't help.. then he really couldn't have had time to send information.. especially since he didn't happen to see a familiar following him. His face softened slightly.
Oh yes.. His daughter had a point and even if she was backing up the stallion's words.. She was very much right as well. If it had been Ali needing the help.. he'd have gone without hesitation.. His best friend, a mare he loved very much but then, she had disappeared long ago now.. and he was beginning to think he may never see her again. "My boy.. I cannot condemn you for your actions.. It is clear your heart was in the right place.. just know.. that it is very hard to see your little girl in so much pain even though you know.. it is life.. and not everything in life is happy. That being said.. I'm glad you came back to explain yourself to her.. that merits well for you in my eyes." She listened to the boy's plight and his willingness to stay around for some time. Nodding her head she smiled. "I See.. So a long visit this is then? Very well.. Idonea has spoken of you very often.. she says you have been nothing but a respectible stallion and kind. The deep meady beyond this thicket isnt' big.. but it is mine and my family's inner most sanctom. Naturally guests such as yourself are not permitted there. However that does not mean that you are not welcome here. Feel free to pass among the herd as a guest. And Oh yes.." She waited to catch Idonea's eye when she said this so that the mare would understand her. "Idonea is responsible for you as you are her guest." She gave a friendly smile to make sure he knew she wasn't angry Guest were always welcome so long as they were on their best behavior within her herd's boarders.

Her father's reaction had surprised him, to say the least. He had envisioned the worst; he saw Shilo kicking him out and banishing him from Idonea's side forever, and yet....there were no repercussions taken for what he had done. It was a pleasant surprise, but a surprise nonetheless.
Cedric couldn't help but feel like he still needed to walk on egg shells, however. So far, his meet and greet had gone perfectly well, and both elders seemed extremely welcoming, but he was still a guest, and needed to chose his words carefully.
He watched happily as Idonea danced where she stood, her own happiness visible to any onlooker. It brought him great joy knowing that he had been a part of that happiness she now felt, but he had also been the cause of a great pain...so he did not allow himself too much credit. Blue eyes glanced at Shoshana as Idonea mentioned her as their leader, and he looked the mare over for a brief second. He had previously decided that she was the elder of the two that they had gone to meet, and Idonea did mention that the lead was a mare...but Shoshana didn't fit the image he had in his mind. Perhaps....that was a good thing? This herd they have might be exactly what he was looking for.
"I understand, sir. My own father would probably say the same thing to a stallion in my place. And thank you, for accepting my apology to your daughter. I don't know what I would have done if it had gone differently..."
Cedric turned then, to Shoshana and smiled at her. "I thank you for your hospitality ma'am, I look forward to being introduced to the herd lands. It looks like a pretty little place from what I can see." A sheepish look crept it's way onto his face as she spoke the last part, and he turned toward Idonea so she could understand him as well, "you don't need to worry about me, or Idonea. I won't do anything disrespectful to the lands, or anyone in them."

She was relieved when she saw her father's expression seem to soften. Reading his words as he spoke them, she brightened and beamed. Edging closer to Cedric, She was grateful they hadn't stirred a hornet's nest and caused too much of a blow up with her father.
As the herd's lead mare spoke her peace, she nodded and nudged Cedric with her nose to his neck. "I understand.. He is my responsibility. I will help him to learn our ways so that he may travel among us without upsetting anyone." It was hard to say. Every father watches their little girl grow up but never accepts it. Standing here, he was having to face that she though big and strong was no longer his little filly any longer. She'd grown so much and he'd missed part of it for reasons of his own. It left him slightly embarrassed to about his own reactions of Cedric leaving her when he'd done no better. Stepping in closer to the smaller stallion, he lowered his head in so only he could hear. "She and her sister are very dear to me.. Fail her.. and I'll see that you never see her again." Faults of no, he was still her father and could offer some sort of protection where he could. She watched their displays of affection and smiled knowingly. Young love.. it was plain that these two no matter how different had found something special. Weather her father could see just how special the bond between Cedric and Idonea was or not was another thing fathers could some times be blind to such things when their little ones were concerned. But she was neither father nor mother to the large mare. She had seen that look before, the look that showed an unspoken bond between two souls and knew that if he tried to keep her away from him.. he could loose the mare all together.
Smiling she nodded her head. "Very well, As long as you understand that your actions reflect upon her, then you are welcome." She turned, looking towards the direction of her hidden meadow. "I hope you find your stay here comfortable, We look forward to having company among us once again. I'm afraid that I have things I must see to for the time being though so I must take my leave." With that, she gave a nod of her head and took her leave to continue with her own duties.

A flashy, flirty grin was plastered on his face as Idonea spoke to Shoshanna, listening to her speak of the 'ways of the herd'. Could it be possible, for the two of them to live in harmony among her herd members, completely and totally in love - without any interruptions? Cedric fancied himself a quick learner, so any difficulties they may have would certainly be over quick. Ah! The possibilities were enough to make him jump for joy on the spot!
Cedric nodded, not showing any fear or disrespect for the stallion before him, only understanding. He too, he figured, would threaten any stallion that came near his daughters so, well, given the situation, one could not blame the guy. He spoke no words, but the fierce, protective stare he gave Shilo had done the talking for him - no harm shall ever come to Idonea, for if it did, Cedric too, would die.
If he hurt her ever again, Cedric would feel the loss of his own soul so deep that there would be no point in existing. He couldn't bare to think of what could go wrong.
The stallion nodded at the older mare, watching politely as she took her leave. Before she had disappeared all together, he called out to her, "wherever Idonea goes, I go, so I am humbled that you would accept me." And with those words, he turned back to her father, smiling softly, "if you would please sir, grant us that we take our leave as well, I'd like to spend some time with Idonea in these lands before the day is over." He'd have loved to do whatever it was she wanted, of course, but....quality time away from daddy seemed much more appealing to the young stallion.
No disrespect, of course! Chivalry was important.
"Alright, Idonea! What shall we do?"
~~~~~~~
It had been a wonderful first night within Idonea's herdlands, but it had tuckered the pair of them out (plus the traveling earlier in the day had done a number on his already tired body), so they slept the night away, dreaming of the potential that their future held. It was, in Cedric's dreams, the most perfect situation, and he couldn't possibly believe he was here at this exact moment. It seemed almost...too real? But he wouldn't dare question any of it, for chance of losing it all again.
As he slept he dreamed of perfection. Idonea's face came to him, laughing and playful as ever. There was nothing else in the scene laid out in his mind, but it was just the way he had wanted it. Her and only her. The sleep had been soundless, body near body, radiating affection between them.
When he woke, the sleeping body of his best friend and his beloved had surprised him, caught in the beauty of the moment. He could leave her here, he thought quickly, sleeping away the morning, as he went and explored around....but no. Cedric did not want to leave her side, not now. She seemed, peaceful...and perfect. Just the way he had wanted it.
"Hmmm, Binky? You awake?", he mumbled sleepily, knowing that the mare couldn't have heard him and therefore had not disturbed her slumber. It was uncertain whether her companion had accompanied them during their sleep, but it didn't hurt to check.
Binky was fiendishly snacking on a frog she'd brought back as her breakfast. When she heard Cedric's voice, she quickly hid the frog behind her back before tottering into his view with that impish innocents she often seemed to have about her. "Binky here.. She not go see her Sippy yet..." Her eyes glanced to the large mare sleeping soundly beside him and then back to the stallion.
He chuckled to himself as he heard the voice of the little raccoon, thinking this was, absolutely, the most amazing life. He had always envisioned something beautiful for himself, much like the love that his parents and his grandparents shared, but this...this was beyond all expectation. This was perfection! Even the little raccoon, all off in her own little world, had added to the perfection of his life. Did he know, all that time ago, that he'd fall in love with his best friend? No - not even as a young stallion did that thought cross his mind, but he was all the better for it.
Blinking, Cedric wondered if the little raccoon was up to something before he interrupted her. Ah, whatever - he wasn't going to stop daily life of whatever went on in these herdlands; he was still the outsider! "Binky, you can keep a secret, right? How do you feel about kids - um, um..in general? You think um, you think Idonea likes them?," he stammered, grinning sheepishly at his love's little friend. It was a spur of the moment thought, a fleeting concept - but it put a smile on his face as it came to him. The idea of children with Idonea - oh boy! Why did his mind go there, on the first morning of their new life together? Oh! Geez! What would his mother think?! But....it was still comforting. What would they be like, if that ever happened? Would they....would they love him?
Oh! Would he be a good father? He had always fancied himself a good stallion, a genuine kind of a guy....but fatherhood? Foals were completely different than mares, and the heavens knew that Idonea would give him a run for his money at times. Would the foals be sweet, innocent little creatures, or little hellions, like he was told members of his family were. Oh! Haha! The possibilities were endless, and still, very comforting.
And then, a tiny bit of panic arose in the stallion as he looked over at Binky once more, aware of the fact that he was completely lost in thought. "But please don't tell her I mentioned that to you - I'm just...uh, curious," again, a stammer, and with the final word, he turned his body over and bumped Idonea's sleeping body as she lie next to him. Giving another playful shove, he maneuvered so he was facing her, ready to be a grinning and happy face as she woke up. Whatever the future did bring, they would do it together.
And he couldn't wait! Well, children could probably wait. Or not. Um, whatever she wanted. Oh yes, this was definitely the purest of feelings; now he finally understood what his parents meant.
"Wakey, wakey," Cedric beamed, staring at her happily.
Her tiny face turned from impish to a delighted wonder. Her little maw making as much of a surprised face as it could muster the little frog half eater falling from her grasps behind her back with that plopping squish. "Kittens!!?" He giggled with glee "Oh the sippy and Binky would love some some day.. Binky's pet would make a wonderful mother me thinks.."
She paused, watching Cedric's face as he thought. Ah so in love he seemed. She giggled once more as he started to try to cover his guard once more. None of which fooled her of course.. She knew all too well that with love and contentment came the desire for a family. Idonea stirred some as she was nudged. First one eye opened then the other sleep still weighing them down. Maneuvering herself, she gave a hefty yawn before look at Cedric in time to catch sight of his smiling face. The words had been lost but his face said it all. "Morning." She murmured as she blinked the sleep away and reached over, nipping at his forelock affectionately. "Did you sleep well?" She was trying to keep her voice low. For one, she didn't want to wake any still sleeping members of the herd and for another, she didn't want to loose control over the volume of her voice.
Taking a moment to look around, she spotted her little companion and smiled. "Good morning binky." Judging by the dampness of the little imp's fur, she could guess that her little friend had been fishing or something this morning. "Been playing in the stream again? Find any fish for me?" Her time with her foal-hood friend had given her a new outlook on life in many ways.. she'd been with Idonea when she'd lost her hearing and even showed her that Fish wasn't all that bad.. one of the few odd quirks she had outside of the rest of her family. Amelia had opened her world to many things till binky had come along. She wondered.. Just how was her friend with the hooves of green flame faring?
Shaking her head, she turned her attention to Cedric, not smelling anything other than the frog Binky had brought with her. Her stomach rumbled slightly as she nudged him lightly. "How bout we go get some breakfast? There's a clearing not far off.. It serves as neutral lands for the herds in the area."
