"WHAT? SURE! BLAME IT ON-" She was shaking her weapon, totally ignoring the fact that they were still in combat, when the creature decided to growl and head straight for the 'weakest link' - in this case, the only trainee present. Although Jude did get a hit in, it wasn't enough.

It pounced, teeth and claws bared. Going for the kill.

"NOOO, NOT MR BOND!" The only reason she was this worked up? She did not want to responsibility of having him killed on a mission with her. Despite her aching limbs and the fact that she was still arguing with Kintama over whose fault it was that her charged attack had missed, she sailed towards the black dog and, as it was in mid air, gave it a good, hard whack with her weapon.

While he was retreating, Deryk saw the beast turn towards him. Oh no. It was going right for him. Letting out a scream, the trainee turned and started to run. Without the fear shield, he was screwed.

Too late. The death trainee felt something big hit him from behind, as well as something sharp sink into him a bit. Though the weight disappeared midway, it still had pushed him over enough that he ended up hitting the ground pretty hard. He didn't even really get much of a chance to see that they had won, seeing how he had smacked his head right against the dirt.

Deryk was out cold.

Jude felt helpless as he watched the beast turn and then go after Deryk, almost yelling at Ariane to focus for once in her life instead of arguing with her weapon but she happened to hit it and thus kill it before it could do much more damage than it was probably aiming to do.

"s**t," Jude grumbled under his breath as he bent over and tried to recollect himself dismissing his weapon before he wandered over to Deryk and knelt down near the lower level trainee and moved to feel for a pulse upon a wrist just to make sure.

He let out a deep sigh of relief, "I think we should get him back and checked out," Jude said to Ariane, "you hold one side and I hold the other?"

Ariane ended up prodding at the unconscious trainee before nodding at Jude, "That... Looks rather bad, actually," She pointed at the bleeding wounds on his back, "And can you imagine the amount of work he'll need to put in when cleaning the blood off his coat?!" It was a legitimate worry.

"I'll take the front, you grab the legs," She instructed before moving to his head, where he was currently kissing the dirt, and grabbing him by the shoulders, making no real effort to be gentle, "On 3... 1, 2... 3!" This was good weight lifting exercise.

"Amongst other concerns," Jude said dryly as he moved to take Deryk's legs with a bit of a sigh. "Wonder whose bright idea it was to make the coats white anyways. Why not a color that hides unfortunate stains?" he asked but he didn't really expect to get any sort of an answer that would bring a satisfactory feeling of any kind.

When Ariane said three he lifted up his end and nodded, "Let's head out in case it has a pack or something," he didn't know for sure how this particular creature worked but he didn't feel they were equipped to find out at this moment. Especially with one man down and both of their FEAR shields hanging on by tenuous threads.

He waited for Ariane to take the lead.

"I would love a black coat," She sighed wistfully as she grunted, walking backwards, looking over her shoulder in order to navigate; Deryk was heavier than he looked... Or it was just because she was tired as hell and would love a nice hot shower followed by a quick nap right now, "But that's not really... Our problem..."

It didn't take Ariane long to retrace her steps, past the creepy painted over, engraved on signs, back to the portal... Which was thankfully still there. After checking that Jude was ready, she stepped through the portal, and ended up back at the lighthouse. She was quick to leave the unconscious Deryk with some of the people there; he was still on his stomach though, since she didn't think leaving him on his injured back was a good idea. She did, out of courtesy, grip him on his shoulder and gave him her most sincere look, "Good job trainee. You are now a real man."

Too bad he could not hear any of this.

"We have all sorts of problems," he said simply, "being all fiddly about the colors of our coat is probably the best little problem we have," Jude shrugged as he made sure he wasn't walking too fast so that Deryk wasn't all sagging in the middle, no need to add to the back problems he was going to be having with the scratches. No need at all.

Through the portal he helped Ariane get Deryk to where he needed to be and could get tended to watching with a tilted head as she congratulated the trainee and told him he was now a 'real man', "So that's what it takes to get your man card stamped? I would think losing your virginity or something would be easier," he said dryly as he pulled his cowl back and stretched his arms over his head.

...He didn't want to go back to his room. Lately he did a lot of crying in his room when he was alone. Jude suddenly loathed being alone in his room.

"Should probably fill out the reports..." He sighed lightly his mood dropping severely.

"There's more than one way to be a real man, Judy," She grinned, taking his arm before leading him out, letting the lighthouse peeps take care of the injured trainee, seeing how they wouldn't be any help anyway if they stayed, "So tell me, are you a real man then, according to your man card?" And she wasn't talking about scars this time.

"Why so gloomy?" She released him, only to give him a pat on his back, "Come on, I'll fill it in with you~" Her expression turned serious for a moment, "And I have a feeling that we should report the symbols we saw engraved on the signs... Up for another external mission another time, hm?"

Normally? He would have blushed and been all flustered but lately he just didn't have the emotional energy to be either of those things right now, "Yes." He said simply there came an odd feeling of sadness with that answer. Probably because he knew what Ariane was talking about and all it did was make him think of someone else.

Sigh.

"Reasons," he said quietly letting her pat him on the back. When she turned serious for a moment he only nodded in agreement and replied, "Sure, after we had a bit of time to heal from the last one." If she wanted to fill a report with him he certainly wasn't going to tell her not to.

As much as Ariane liked to tease Jude and see him squirm, that wasn't why she felt uneasy at his lack of reaction; it was because it was sort of obvious that there was something bugging him, but she was... Unwilling to ask him why. Partially because she wondered if he would even tell her if she asked, and partially because she was busy trying to convince herself that it was none of her business and that she shouldn't be nosy.

She wasn't sure how to ask someone about what was bugging them anyway; do you just ask it straight, or coax them to talk about it? Very troublesome.

Putting a grin on her face, she took his arm again and dragged him down the corridor, towards where they were supposed to submit all their reports, "Sounds good to me! I'll contact you again then." Maybe he would be less gloomy the next time they meet up, and she wouldn't have to think so much about it.

"Sounds good," he said simply as he was 'dragged' down the corridor though he felt he was walking at a fairly normal pace. When they got to the place to fill and submit their paperwork he did so with Ariane pausing now and again to ponder at the various fields or perhaps prolonging the time away from his room.

Maybe he'll go for a walk after this instead. Yes that sounded about right. When he finished he reached over and lightly patted Ariane's back, "See you soon," he said quietly and then moved to walk away.

She managed a grin at him before watching him go, still feeling a little uneasy about how unresponsive he's been.

'It's probably none of my business.'

With that, she submitted her own report and went on her way.
