dancing_on_hyenas Do I dare go moral?? lol the "eye for an eye" approach....effective, yet wrong??? GO! ( i feel like mike myers in "coffee talk" So great "Discuss") It couldn't work in all cases. Such as a murder, what would you do? Kill them of course! But what would happen if that murder took out the entire family? You couldn't kill his family because they haven't done anything, and there is the problem. You can't really turn back the punishment all the time. If you steal something and get caught, the equivelent to that isn't to cut off your hand is it? It would probably be giving up something equal in value to the person it was stolen from. And what if the crime is an accident? What happens then? I don't know, I just ranting abit here.

The whole "I think there for I am" thing makes some sense to me. When a person thinks or acts they affect the world in some way so they seem to exist. But when someone does nothing, they really don't affect or change anything so in a way you don't exist. I know that's not how the saying was to be interpreted and I'm probably wrong, but then again I'm just bored.

gi8ab ConsusLata Well, I guess I'll post since no one else will. What type of government do you think is the best and why? A few types of government include socialism, communism, fascism, democracy, oligarchy, dictatorship, contract theory, monarchy, ummah, and tribal. I first argue that government, while may be divinely inspired, is a human convention designed to promote human flourishing. Thereby the best government is one that can best promote human flourishing. Of the government types that I am familiar with, I believe that an oligarchy bests fulfills this purpose. An oligarchy is ruled by a small group of elite citizenry. These elite can be chosen in a variety of ways including birthright and election. I propose that an oligarchy would function best when the more experienced individuals (age 40 or older) and best educated serve as the elite. The advantage of this over a democracy is simple: in a true democracy any citizen has influence over governmental affairs, including the bunglers and village idiots. Even the framers of the United States govenment saw the potential of this threat and tried to eliminate it by means of the electorial college (making America a cross between an oligarchy and a democracry). With an oligarchy this threat is nullified and only the most capable citizens make decisions that guide the state. An oligarchy is much better than any system with a single individual for a leader because an individual may succumb to irrational passions or may act out of self-interest. And yes, I am a Spartan xd Wow, you think an oligarchy is the best form of government? I admit that our government is becoming more like one, but that is what is wrong with it. The *elite* make rules that enrich themselves, while leaving the average citizen with less, and less. Also we have found that the *elite* are not the smartest, even if they have a superior education. For example George W. Bush is a Yale graduate, and may well be the most powerful man in the world, but he is a blithering idiot. I can guarantee you that if he were to take an I.Q. test, many of the members of this guild would get a higher score. I?m pretty confident that I would. The best form of government is in fact a democracy. Our founding fathers set up the electoral college because the average citizen of the time knew little of candidates outside their own geographic region. So it was felt that popular vote would always elect the candidate from the region with the highest population. The electoral college system gave smaller states 2 vote for their 2 senators, along with the votes for the number of members of the house of representatives. This satisfied the smaller states, allowing an agreement to be passed on the election of president. The electoral college should now be eliminated, as technology allows anyone who cares to learn about any candidate. The problem we now face is the aggressive take over of our media, by the far right, that has hindered the dissemination of balanced news reporting. In the last ten years the media in this country has been being taken over by Rupert Murdock. He has used his control of the media to push his agenda. The news has been spun to make the right look good, and the left look bad. Fox News (which would be better named Faux Spews) is the leader in media misrepresentation. In a study of the public?s misconceptions about the war in Iraq 80% of Fox News viewers were found to have one, or more misconceptions. Many of the new voting machines are computer based, and can be hacked. They use the same technology as an ATM, but are not designed to give a hard copy receipt to the voter, so the voter can confirm that his/her vote was counted properly. Also the company that makes these machines are owned by an ardent supporter of the GOP. This gives rise to the question: If these machines were to be hacked, in who?s favor would the hack go? In the 2004 election there were many unanswered questions about the validity of the vote. In one Ohio district George W. Bush received more votes than there were registered voters. There were problems with voting machines in Florida that defaulted to Bush, which some voters encountered problems changing to the candidate of their choice. There were countless other irregularities, almost all added votes in Bush?s favor. linkMy best advise is to look into it for yourself. Ok, sorry about that rant. The subject tends to get my dander up... The best form of goverment doesn't exist. Differnt situations call for different types of manegment. All past and present goverments have shown this. What is needed is a system for changing goverment to suit the situation at hand. Big crises show us just how ineffectual govement is. Any elitist form of goverment is bad. How do we decide the elite? Election? Who gets to vote? Who decides who the elite should be? What direction should goverment have? Elitist thinking leads to stagnation of discussion IMO free thought is not something that is higly valued. In other words an elitist goverment will be beaurocratic and rigid in it's form and won't be able to change as need be.

"I think therefore i am" does not make any sense to me. do plants think? do stones think? does the earth think? and brain-dead people they can't think and yet they still exist. Or are we just imagining them?
