Yin had no idea how to even answer her question, so he simply...did not. He waited for her to grab the phone from him and hang up, trying not to admit how much relief he had felt. Who even knew that that any things went into a wedding?
"Married?" he said more than asked uncertainly, trying to think about what he had heard about it. "That is when you vow to be with someone for your entire life? Where I come from we do not have marriage or weddings, but I think they are close to our choosings and bondings. If that is the case than I always presumed that one day I would connect with others, just like every one else. But I did not want that choice made more me." He sounded quite adamant about that.
"That is part of why I left my clan, I wanted to be able to chose whom I would be with. Being with someone for forever does not sound bad, so long as both parties wish to be together. So when I find the right person I guess I shall make that bond?" It was not something that he really liked to think about, who he might agree to spend his life with. He did not have fanciful dreams about it, of a ghoul or boil coming in to sweep him off his feet.
No, the best he had dared dream as a child was that a ghoul in high standing might pick him, a shrine maiden or priestess perhaps. That maybe he would be able to find a boil that his ghoul would let him stay close to.
"I am sorry that I am of so little help."

Danny stared at Yin, attempting to comprehend what he was saying. It wasn't necessarily complicated, it was just a lot of info for her already-slow mind to take in. Something about parties having to agree; that was weird. Parties weren't married, people were. You threw parties AFTER the wedding!
What she did understand was that he wanted to get married, but wanted to choose, and ran away because he couldn't choose. That last part didn't make sense to her though. Of course you got to choose who you married. Everybody knew that!
"What do you mean you didn't get to choose?" she asked, confused. Though it may have made Yin uncomfortable, it was helping to get Danny's mind off Roch, and that was a bonus in her eyes any day. She also added, for good measure, "You're helpful Yin," followed by a smile.

Yin smiled in return, pleased at the compliment. He rather enjoyed being helpful to his friends. It made talking about this subject slightly more bearable. "Where I come from females choose males that they wish to be with. Males are free to chose other males, but cannot refuse females."
He felt distinctly uncomfortable telling a ghoul this, but it was Miss Danny, and she was having a hard time. And if there was one ghoul that would probably never use the information against him it was Miss Danny.

Now that didn't make sense. Well, it sort of did. Technically she had "chosen" Rikki (considering she asked him), but she had also ... un-chosen him. Jackdammit. She didn't want to think about this.
"Why can't you ... 'refuse a female'?" she said, using his terminology. That part was what confused her most. She could understand females choosing men- that was what she did with Rikki. She could understand males choosing males- it happened a lot in Halloween after all. A guy saying no to a female? Now that happened all the time. It happened with Chuppi and Tybalt. She liked him, and he said no.
Danny still hadn't quite connected that this was the reason he was always so formal with her. For her, Yin was just a jittery kid in general. It was just the way he was. It wasn't the result of some massive clan of female domination; he was just Yin to her.

Why not? Why face social ostracism, and punishments so severe that those who had faced it had never been normal afterwards? Males were never killed for refusing a female, there would be no point to it. No, males that had refused females were allowed to live, and young boils were taken on a "field trip" to go see the broken men.
It was not an easily forgotten memory.
He had shuddered despite trying to keep himself under control. "It is not done Miss Danny." He swallowed the lump that had grown in his throat. "That is the best answer I can give you right now. It is not done. Males must always accept a female's advances unless there are two vying for his attention, and then he must choose one. That is a male's only chance at choosing."

Danny watched Yin shuddered and pulled the blanket up on his lap too. She figured he must be cold- it was a little chilly in here tonight. Of course, chilly for Danny might mean warm or hot for Yin. Either way, her mind was working on simplistic behaviors. Friend is cold, friend gets blanket.
For a moment, she was silent, trying to figure it out. Her mind could only come up with one solution though. "Well ... you're at Amityville. I think we don't do that here." Yeah, she was pretty sure the last time she told Roch to do something, he specifically did the opposite just to spite her. Atchung, thinking of Roch again. Jackdammit mind.
"So ... you're okay here. I don't think anyone will choose you." She realized the potential blunder and said, "I mean! Not that anyone wouldn't want to. I mean I'm sure-" She decided it was just time to stop. "Uh. You get what I mean." He did, right?

"It would be wonderful if no one did," he assured her. Something, somewhere, told him that maybe it was ridiculous of him to feel that away about everyone, but he could live with that feeling. Not needing to worry about getting chosen was such an amazing idea.
But while things were not the same in Amityville, it still bothered him to think about not following the customs he had grown up with. They probably seemed weird to Miss Danny, and some of them he was learning not to agree with...but some things were just too hard to change.
Or he actually did not want to change.
"I know that I am different than most of the students here, so I may not be the best person to ask about all of these questions. But I am always happy to assist you Miss Danny."
And then they cuddled together happily ever after.

Danny frowned. Clearly she and Yin were in two very different boats. While Yin wanted to stay as far away from a ... "chosen" as possible, Danny was very much missing hers. It was hard to comprehend Yin's feelings when they were so very far from her own.
She clapped Yin on the back in a sort of brutish way and then said, "Thanks buddy." She wasn't very good at the whole close and intimate thing anyways.
Idly, she looked over at the bag of clothing sitting on her bed still. It was half unpacked now, thanks to Yin. She should probably get the rest of it out. Danny stood up and walked over to the bag, taking a few shirts out in one hand.
"Help me finish unpacking?" she said. Maybe it wasn't really her place to ask a favor from someone that she could do for herself, but she just really didn't want Yin to go yet. She didn't want to be alone again.

Miss Danny was a good ghoul, from the almost manly pat on the back to actually bothering to ask him to help her. He smiled at her. "Of course."
He walked over to the bag and pulled out a couple of things until he found what he wanted. "You know Miss Danny, I do not believe I have ever seen you wearing these shorts. Would you mind putting them on?" Very smooth Yin, very smooth. He laid them in front of her on the bed and then took another shirt over to the closet to hang up.

He'd never seen her in those shorts? Danny eyed him suspiciously. She wore those shorts like EVERY day. How could he have missed that? Yin could be so oblivious sometimes! (Pot, meet kettle).
Nevertheless, Danny obliged him, slipping on the black spandex shorts. They didn't really cover much more than her underwear did but ... if it made Yin happy, sure what not?
"Uhhh. Tadah?" she said, putting her hands on her hips. Yin had the oddest preferences.

"Very nice," he said conversationally as he continued unpacking, leaving the items that did not go in the closet for Miss Danny to put away.
Belatedly he realized that if that tactic actually worked he should have tried for a longer pair of shorts. Too late now unfortunately. "I believe that is everything Miss Danny," he commented when they were finished, eyes sweeping the room and ignoring anything that he would refuse to put away.

Seeing that the last of her bag was successfully unpacked, Danny kicked the remainders under her bed. She clapped her hands, wiping them clean of the duty. Well now that that was done ...
"Um, yeah," she said awkwardly. What now? Yin would probably leave. Leaving. That word sounded about ten times scarier now. She didn't even want to think about it. So she decided to diverge.
She kicked at the ground with her hands behind her back, pensive. "Um. Yin, will you do one more favor?" she asked, wings fluttering a little uselessly.

"Of course Miss Danny, what is it that you need?" He ordinarily did not agree to favors before they were spelled out, but Miss Danny seemed so upset today.

Danny held her breath for a moment, as she was about to ask him to stay the night with her. She really didn't want to be alone tonight, and while the idea of Yin staying overnight seemed ... incredibly awkward, she just-
In a moment of hesitation, Danny bit her lip. Yin was already uncomfortable enough. He probably wouldn't want to stay with her. Even if he did, she'd probably end up annoying him and wearing him out. Like everyone else. Oh gosh she was back this.
Shaking her head, she quietly said, "Ah- Nevermind." She gave a sort of bittersweet smile and then decided it would be safest to just go for a hug. Danny crossed her room in two little steps and wrapped her arms around Yin in a friendly hug. "Thanks Yin," she said, coming out of the hug now, "I'll ... see you later?"

He froze when Miss Danny put her arms around him, slightly panicked, but then she released him quickly enough and he let out a small sigh of relief.
"You are welcome," he said after a moment, and then put his hand on her shoulder and gave it a light squeeze. It was a favored action of Alexander's and it seemed to have positive effects. "Have a good day."
And with that he did not flee for once, but walked out of the door, shut it gently behind him, and began the trek back to his dorm room.
