Aria hunched her shoulders, trying to hide her face yet again. That in and of itself inspired her to hurry up and back away from the "princess" as soon as he was freed, pausing long enough to put her lockpicks away. She didn't want to be here anymore. She wanted out. At least their attentions were on each other and not on her. Couldn't she escape...?

a voice growled in her mind. want to be weak? No? Then pull yourself together. They're going to stand around arguing at each other if you don't do something.>

Her weapon was right. She was right most of the time; it only made sense to follow her advice. Aria sighed, looking from one hunter to the other. "Er, look -"

"Can't you two argue once we're outside? We came in, rescued the princess. Mission done, let's go."

She didn't wait for either one before moving towards the trap door, shooting each of them a quick uncertain glance.

He could have let it slide. Maybe if it had been someone else, maybe Andy, maybe Em, but-

- not from a total ******** stranger who thought it was funny to make all the comments about his family issues. That joke got old, fast. Aria calling him 'the princess' did not further help to alleviate the mood. And he honestly would have simply walked back, letting them guide the weaponless Sun trainee all the way back home save for one problem.

This 'Edmund' guy was a total a**.

"We're fine Velda, thank you, just heading back." Caelius said almost a little too curtly over the headset before turning it off, taking a few deliberate steps past his two 'rescuers' into the fray: a strange open room with flat tiles. He raised an eyebrow as he examined the closest one, weighing his foot against it slightly.

A small burst of fire flickered towards him in a horizontal arc: any slower reflexes and he would have been perhaps this tower's first serious casualty. The tiles triggered the traps, that much was easy to tell. Judging from the spears and uneven flooring, there were several different traps which meant-

- casually, the Sun trainee tested this theory as he pressed his foot down against the very same tile, leaning ever-so-forward so that the flames shot past him. A pity if the other two were lagging behind, really.

The Life hunter grinned and rolled his eyes as the trainee flounced past. "I think he's just shy," he commented to Aria, making his way down fist. Because he truly had enjoyed watching her go up that ladder, and wouldn't mind seeing the sequel. Not at all. Watching her mount the ladder, Edmund's grin grew fairly shark-like, but alas...his pants were on fire. In a sadly literal sense. "Damn. It." The senior hunter bit out the curse, taking off his coat to quickly pat out the flames.

Edmund looked over at Caelius, eyes narrowed, and Maria was in his hand striking out at the boy in a flash, "Oh. Whoops. Butter-fingers."

Aria jumped off the ladder as the flames licked at her hands, nearly stumbling into Edmund yet again in her haste to put distance between herself and the now hot metal. She slapped at the smoke that curled up from her hands before looking down at them and groaning. Her fingerless gloves were now singed. Great. It took her forever to find another Mist trainee with those gloves, and an extra century to work out a trade to get them. And now they were ruined.

She lifted her gaze towards the two hunters, her gaze flickering from one to the other. Aria didn't know either of them. That didn't matter. What mattered was that they weren't heading towards the exit.

her weapon suggested quietly.

It was a valid point. Aria didn't hesitate to pull out her weapon and show Caelius exactly what it felt like to be set on fire. Cold fire.

He practically went flying face first onto the next tile as Velda's lackey summoned their ******** weapon against him, the strange Fear based weapon tearing into his foot and leg, pointed tips burying neatly into flesh. It took all his effort not to yell and give Edmund the satisfaction of knowing how much his weapon ******** hurt-

-And he didn't have to, as Aria joined in the fray, encasing his coat and his entire left arm in a layer of ice - he had been one second too slow to even think of dodging thanks to being rather preoccupied. The Sun trainee stared at the both of them, was this some sort of test?

He quickly assessed his options: this current tile appeared to be safe but what about the one next to him? Caelius sucked in a quick breath from the pain, attempting to make a run. His foot practically gave in right under him, making the trainee a veritable sitting duck.

In another world, this activity might have even been called dangerous, but it was clear that Edmund was a psychopath and Aria even more so. Or had Velda simply ordered his death the entire time, and he had fallen for her trick? Either way the Princess was not coming home with two lunatics thank you very much, and he voiced his opinion by backing the ******** away. Still weaponless, why Velda, what did he ever do to her?

Velda was busy trying not to feel hurt over the fact that he preferred being rescued by Aria and Edmund. She was not pouting. She was not pouting. Why were they taking so long? She was not pouting.

Grabbing Caelius by the shoulder, her assistant gently slammed him against the wall with a grin, "Best watch out now. It's dangerous in here." He was all sorts of caring and concern, that Edmund.

Her flamethrower shut off with a soft click, the weapon rising up into a vertical position as she blinked. Damnit! When the hell was she going to learn to not look at the fire directly? She could feel herself tense, her hand gripping tightly on the weapon as she wai-

Aria lowered her weapon, cradling it in her singed hands as she tried to take the advice. It was easy to be told to relax. Doing it? That was harder. She couldn't resist the urge to glance over her shoulder, just in case.

"Guys," She began, glancing at the two... and quickly shutting up as she noticed that one of them was pinned up against the wall. "Er, that is. Ah. Do you want me to go ahead and scout or something and leave you two alo- I mean. I'll just. I'll just... start going ahead so we can get this over and done with, okay?"

There was nothing gentle about the little trip from the floor to the wall as Edmund pinned him down and pretty much gave him yet again the equivalent of a verbal slap in the face-

- So when Aria turned to look back to them, muttering something about "leaving the two alone", he just felt slightly assaulted in all the wrong ways. The flabbergasted expression he gave the Mist trainee quickly dissolved into indignation and then a mildly simmering anger. ""We're not- I'm- " He quickly shoved Edmund off, using the older man's weight against him as he shifted to one side, all his training as a Sun Hunter kicking in as he raised both arms defensively the second he was freed.

Carefully watching the other man, Caelius took a step back, and then another step, onto the next tile. So far so good. Edmund still hadn't put their own weapon away, which was making him extremely tense and edgy. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, he finally relented and moved closer to Aria: sure she had just semi-frozen has arm a few moments ago, it was still safer than the alternate option.

They were still both ******** crazy.

The look on the boy's face after Aria's little offer of privacy was too much for the Life hunter to handle and soon Edmund's laughter was echoing through the room. Apparently some of the traps were more sensitive than others, and the sound was enough tripped a barrage of throwing stars to go flying toward the princess. Moments later, Edmund was staring at the bladed whip in his hand with an almost tragic expression, "Damn my excessively impressive reflexes. Watching you get pinned by Velda's little ninja toys would have made this day so much more pleasurable."

If she had seen Edmund's accidental rescue, Aria probably would have swooned over how swift the Life hunter was. As it was, she had edged out of the room and was going down the stairs by the time Caelius broke free and Edmund laughed. Before she entered the shadow room she had the forethought to pull her goggles down over her eyes for protection and began blasting away at the darkness, burning a path through to the exit.

But like all goggles, they did nothing useful. She missed a shadow. It didn't matter that it was burning and flailing about, trying to put out the fire. What mattered was that it launched itself straight at Caelius, digging into the Sun Hunter's legs and attempting to climb up him like the world's most fail ninja to reach higher ground.

Edmund's efforts were rewarded with a glare: somehow it was just that much more insulting to have to be rescued, especially by that guy. Because clearly, even weaponless, Caelius had things under control.

In fact, it was somewhat of a miracle as the trainee stepped on the last two tiles how he just happened to evade the bottomless pit trap and then the spiked roof trap right next to it. Maybe he was just good at avoiding all the things, or maybe it was a sign.

The Sun trainee was however not thinking of anything other than getting the ******** out, attempting to trail after Aria, who he begrudgingly had to admit had probably one of the most badass weapons ever when he belatedly realized the darkness was not just an eternal tunnel of black but actually filled with thousands of moving shadows.

This thought was accompanied by one of said shadows making a dash for his leg, he once again reflexively reached for his weapons, and in that second of realizing his mistake, the shadow had already attempted to scurry spider-style, up his back. It took him another few seconds to finally successfully rip the creature off before throwing it back into the abyss, glaring at the rest of the shadows rather indignantly as he hurried up to catch up to Aria, as if he could scare the shadows away from sheer willpower alone.

"How the ******** did they even get them in here?"

The fact that the shadowling was on fire as it latched onto Caelius was a sweet piece of irony, and he found himself feeling rather fond of Aria. But enough was enough, and it he was quite ready to leave Velda's little playground. Marie created a series of glowing slashes and arcs, clearing a tight space around himself and the boy. "Magic, princess. Do step lively now. Your heroes have better things to do than escort your precious self about." He had to admit, though, his leader had possibly gotten just the tiniest bit carried away with this whole set-up.

She was starting to get the hang of this. Flame one side, then the next, forming a sort of corridor for them to walk through. The darkness of the room made it easier to see exactly how her flamethrower worked: the raw power and chill of the flame froze a patch of ground upon contact. The fire was then able to burn on top of it until the ice was consumed by the very fire it was made out of.

Or something like that. Aria still wasn't sure if that was how it worked, and her weapon didn't seem keen on telling her how it functioned either. Aria pushed on, hurrying towards the door which she kicked open and did her best not to run out of. Freedom! Finally!

She breathed a sigh of relief, pushing her goggles up and blinking at the change in light. "They're coming. They should be behind me," She told Velda, glancing at the division leader. "Princess rescued. Mission accomplished."

Not a few seconds later, the door burst open again, one Sun trainee swearing as he tried to peel several straggling shadowy Fear manifestations off his legs. A couple of them might have still been on fire.

The trainee finally managed to put out the flames crawling up one pant leg with his coat, favouring the other leg to catch his breath before staring up at Velda with a rather panicked expression. "Miss Velda, what-" And here, Caelius paused for a second. Asking Velda what exactly the point of this all may just incite her equally whimsical and often unpredictable mood swings, and it was clearly beginning to show that the Life Division leader secretly had a sadistic streak namely on his individual being for some reason. He wasn't too sure how he had wronged her, but sometimes, it was just best not to ask.

"-were those shadows in the tower?" He finished, rather lamely. Oh god, think of a compliment, think of a compliment. "I... er... uh..... those traps were really convincing." And dangerous. And please please please just don't invite him ever again.
