"I don't know if I'd ever quite understand how you feel that way," he said quietly, though his expression softened as he saw her smiling down at him. The next question though, came to Shun as a bit of a surprise.

"Of course. Granted.. I wouldn't be able to teach you how to read or write it properly. But I could teach you to speak some," he said, pausing, "Hearing me speak with him made you want to learn?"

"Eh..." Mitsu's ears fell a bit. "I..I don't want you to think it was because of that..." She tried to order her thoughts so that she could explain. "I've wanted to learn but I never got around to asking and honestly other than saying kuso a lot you don't really speak it around me often." And she had certainly picked up on that on her own.

Laying down beside him for the moment her fingers started to play with the necklace around her neck, her fingers tracing the delicately made orchid. "There's still a lot about you I don't know and I want to learn at least what I can. Language is one of those things and this just happened to remind me....does that make sense at all?" She asked tilting her head up. Mitsu wasn't certain if she was making sense or just babbling. Really it could go either way.

"I don't really mind if I can read or write it but if I could speak with you a little. Are there terms of endearment in Japanese? Like how Xiu calls you Aniki."

It was true. He didn't speak it very often outside of swearing, but Shun generally didn't have a reason to speak Japanese most of the time. But, he could still see where Mitsu was going with this. Nodding quietly to her, he paused at the mention of terms of endearment. He actually had to think about that one for a little bit. After some thought, there weren't really any.. unless the name suffixes counted. But he would rather not have one of those.

"There aren't really any in Japanese. You could say that culturally.. Japanese are more of an actions speak louder than words type when it comes to that. However.. I do know that 'aishiteru' is 'I love you'," he explained.

"Oh I see," It wasn't a huge deal that there weren't any terms of endearment. They really didn't share terms like that back in forth in English. Saying 'baby' or 'honey' just seemed awkward. So maybe it was best.

Mitsu's eyes brightened though at his first small lesson, mentally trying to repeat the word in her head. "Aishi....aishit..." She was struggling trying to remember how Shun had said it. Looking up at him pleadingly she hoped he would repeat.

There was a touch of amusement in Shun's eyes as Mitsu attempted to repeat the phrase. He waited for just a moment before speaking again.

"Aishiteru. AI shi te ru." he said softly, breaking down the syllables the second time around. The reaper then waited for her to try again.

It was interesting hearing her speak the language to say in the least. He wondered if it was possible to teach her to be fluent too. Obviously, it would take some time, but the potential was there.

Mitsu's smile warmed. "I love you too." She gave him a small peck on the cheek before she tried again.

"Ai shi te ru." She repeated the broken down version first letting each syllable sink in before she repeated it a bit more accurately. "Aishiteru." Her tail began to wag a bit as she stared into Shun's eyes saying it now with meaning. "Aishiteru."

She seemed pleased with the phrase and the way it rolled off the tongue. It was far better than any term of endearment in her eyes. "Thank you."

Reaching up to brush his fingers against her cheek, Shun had that faint glimmer of a smile touch his lips as he heard her speak it more clearly and accurately this time around. It was actually pretty nice hearing her say that.

"Aishiteru," he replied softly, also with meaning.

"If.. there's anything else you'd like to learn to say. Let me know."

Otherwise, he supposed he could probably start with some basic vocabulary and grammar.

"I will," Mitsu nodded before nuzzling against him once more. "But right now you should rest. I'll stay until you fall to sleep." Hopefully now he was in a better mood. Mitsu felt a little better herself but she was still determined to follow him on his next mission.

"Sleep well, Shun." She said softly, continuing to run her fingers through his hair.

Closing his eyes as he felt her fingers run through his hair, Shun let out a breath and let himself settle down.

"You don't have to stay," he murmured, giving her the option to leave in case she wanted to. Though, he did enjoy having her here. In the back of his mind, he hoped the subjects earlier won't be coming up too often in the future.

"But I want to," She reassured nestling down against him for the mean time until he fell to sleep.

"Alright then," he uttered while shifting closer to her, getting comfortable. Letting out one more breath, Shun went ahead and tried to get some sleep.
