Wealthy Lover

Her headset crackled to live, and the familiar voice on the other end made her pause; why did Gabby even bother? They barely knew each other! However, out of politeness - and perhaps because that small part of her yearned for company despite how she swore to walk the rest of her life alone - she replied.

Huni Pi
To Gabby: You be careful too... You still owe me that movie.

With that said, she sighed, and looked at the line of barrier daggers that the Mists had been trying - without much success - to put up; that was bad... She had a feeling that this was a race against time, and they were already falling behind schedule; grabbing one of the barrier daggers they had been provided with, she joined the rest of the hunters... Only to witness something terrible.

Her mind screamed for her to look away, but she simply couldn't. The blood... The gore... Even if she wasn't standing right there, she could smell the blood from her memory, and it was making her stomach churn.

"NO-" She wanted to yell, but it only came out as a strangled yelp; she did not know that hunter. She did not even know her name, but they were part of the same faction... She closed her eyes briefly and forced herself to look down, dagger gripped tightly in her hand as she stabbed it into the ground; it was a miracle she managed to get it right, as her hands were shaking slightly.

"Come on, we have to do this!"

Moore was back within a matter of minutes, and this time when he jammed the barrier dagger into place, it stuck. There were just two now out of the handful they had tried to get working, but hopefully this time things would hold.

He had the same feeling he had back in the maze. The cold fear coiling in his spine and his inner voice telling him that things were going to get very, very bad before (if ever) they got better. The pale blonde man attempted to re-apply his dagger, but failed horribly. What was wrong with him? His hands were shaking like they never had before.

"DAMNIT!"

Julien never cursed out loud. He thought of himself above all of that. He wasn't crass, he was a gentleman. But this man was pushed beyond his normal bonds. Things were bad, things were very, very bad. He cursed at himself for failing. He had to keep Mya safe no matter what. Well, and save the world. But because they were one in the same at the moment, the pale man was working on the first right now.

"Come on love, we can do this." He tried to smile, but it wasn't coming to his thin pale lips. Robert was thankfully silent, probably due to the monster and the death that just happened. He couldn't keep this stupid runic dagger in place, and it was very bad.

"Just keep trying until we get it. Don't worry, I'll protect you if something shows up again... with everything I have Mya Jones. Everything..."

She nodded at him, her face as grim as she felt as she pulled out another dagger and knelt beside him. She was shaking herself, and not just from the rain and the cold. She'd witnessed other hunters dying many times before, but nothing like this, never anything this horrible. She breathed in and out, deeply, slowly, in through the nose and out through her mouth, as she tried to steady herself. Eventually, she reached out, and placed one of her hands, trembling ever so slightly but not shaking like it had been before, on top of Julien's. Her fingers intertwined with his for a moment, and she leaned her head against his shoulder, closing her eyes, trying to regroup and refocus her mind.

When her eyes reopened, she said "Ok, ok, I'm ready. Let's do this." Taking her hand off of his, she gripped her dagger and attempted to drive it into the ground in the proper way.

For the briefest of moments, it seemed to flicker to life, and then, it went out. Her face fell. "Try again." She said to him, simply, her eyes focused on that one spot on the ground. "You need to go again."

Yes, Mya was right. Julien needed to go again. But despite the rain he felt sick. He needed to breath better, and everything was choking him. His pale blonde hair was slick with rain, and the runic dagger was slipping between his leather gloves. Growling under his breath, Julien suddenly pushed the dagger between his teeth and yanked off his gloves as quickly as possible. Then his fingers undid the clasp on his scarf and dropped that to the ground as well. His jacket came off and joined the growing pile on the ground. Now he was clad in white pants, black boots, and a black tank top. He ran one hand through his hair, messing it up beyond what Julien would have ever done ever. There was a determined look on his pale face, and Julien once again slammed the dagger into the ground... only for it to fall out of place and a string of profanities escape his lips.

He didn't like failing, not this man who expected the best out of others and even more out of himself. Julien growled loudly, and swore again. Life was going to slip between his fingers if this kept up. Those pale blue eyes kept looking everywhere possible, the sun hunter wanting to make sure nothing else would leap out of no where and strike. He had to keep Mya safe.

Cody swallowed, trying to keep back any bile that threatened to come up. It was horrible to watch and he wished he hadn't seen it. He wished he hadn't see that foul creature swoop down and pluck Megan from the earth, only to tear into her like she was some sort of delicacy to be devoured. If he managed to survive past this day, this would be a scene that would surely haunt him for the rest of his days, and yet, a small part of him was thankful it wasn't a face he knew.

:Concentrate!:

Dimitri's voice snapped him out of his daze. Reminding him that there was a barrier to be set up. Possibly the biggest barrier of their time. Unfortunately, his hands were still shaking and he ended up fumbling the dagger.

"s**t!"

Was Julien actually disrobing? In public?? Was he actually, really, actually just tossing his jacket and scarf and gloves to the wet and dirty New York street? It seemed that he was, and she had to fight not to reach out and feel his forhead for him. Oh god, and now he was mussing up his hair! Something was definitely wrong.

She was having so many conflicting emotions at the moment. Part of her wanted to scream in frustration at their inability to set up this god damned barrier. Another part of her just wanted to curl up in the street and cry. And yet another part of her wanted to grab Julien and drag him into some dark corner next to a building and have her way with him one last time before the end came, because she knew there was just no way in hell they were going to be able to get this barrier up in time. But she was a hunter. She was one of the few that stood between the world as all others knew it and the big bad nasty shadows and monsters that wanted to consume them all. She knew that she couldn't do any of those things that she wantet to do. She knew she couldn't give up hope.

"Again," She commanded, as her dagger went into the ground once more, and once again, failed to create the barrier. "Do it again, Julien. We can't stop. We have to save them, we have to save everyone."

Fail!

"Little insects."

She was back, or maybe, she had never quite left in the first place. The kill had only made her hungrier, oh her whole belly was grumbling, it would be okay if she had herself another snack while she waited right?

As the Hunters looked around, trying to locate the Horsemen of Famine's sing-song voice, they would only see other faces - confused faces of partgoers trying to push around the Hunters, loud shouts and excited screams as the New Years timer continued to tick down.

And it was raining, a strange fog clinging to the ground, making everything surreal. Hard to see.

"Little insects," she taunted, the clatter of her footsteps everywhere at once, her figure hidden in the rain, the fog, the people. "We are still hungry."

Billie found herself pulled against Warden's chest just as she heard the sickening sound of tearing flesh. Her eyes squeezed shut on instinct and his warning had not even been needed. She was a healer and she was used to sight of blood but the body torn to bits was nothing she'd want to view anymore than that one time.

Warden tugged her away from the corpse and Dekina was silent in her head. She was doing her best not to let her eyes drift to the dismembered body laying only feet away.

"Ward.." She didn't have anything to say really but she said his name on instinct as they continued to fail at building the barrier. The horseman had been hungry and so easily taken a trained hunter's life. What if more of them felt the need for a snack?

It didn't matter, she couldn't stop. There were lives at stake besides their own! Billie slammed another dagger into the ground.

"Again. Do it again, Julien. We can't stop. We have to save them, we have to save everyone."

Ah, Mya Jones. The core of who he was lived for her. Sometimes Julien had wondered whether he felt alive because he was a hunter, or because he was with her. At one point in his life, Mister Bond could clearly say that he felt alive because he was a hunter. He was doing something in this world worth living for, and he felt proud of being a hunter.

And then he had met Mya Jones. And now it was one in the same, two sides of the same coin. You couldn't melt one off without destroying the other. Thankfully, somehow, his dagger stuck when he struck it back into the ground. Somehow holding in place, and adding to what someone else had already started. A small smile broke out on his pale face, and he turned towards Mya.

"Your turn darling. Come on, you can do it."

His words were soft and encouraging. Trying to bring some sort of peaceful encouragement despite how horrifying this all was. There was too much s**t going on for him to concentrate on anything other than himself, Mya, the daggers and Robert. There was just too much going on!

Through the rain Lucas could tell that Mya and Julien seemed to have reconciled, and he was actually glad that they had. Didn't matter how much of a pansy-a** that Fear hunter was, or how stupid enough it was to love someone as a hunter, he had to admire that they had found some form of happiness.

But then the voice of the Horseman was back. He put a hand on his shotgun, comforted by the familiarity of it. There was no time for fear during a mission.

"C'mon you lot we're Mist. We can do everything unlike those other divisions so move your asses."

Okay so it wasn't that inspiring, but maybe it could help drown out that awful voice.

Yes. Yes! Juliens dagger had sparked to life, and a small barrier between his dagger and another was created. It was a very short lived moment, however, as the light once again flickered and went out.

"Fuuuuuck...." She swore, under her breath and to herself, though Julien was definitely close enough that he could hear it.

And then the noises began, and she whipped her head around, wet hair swinging with the movement and sending droplets of water in all directions. "Shiiiit...Julien?" She whispered, her voice coming out like a hiss. "Don't you dare go after her, you hear me? You stay right here with me." She grunted out that last part as she stabbed her dagger into the ground again, yet again, nothing happened.

The sound the horseman was making was incredibly unsettling, and Mya had to fight to regain her composure. Heedless of what Julien might think, she spoke into her headset, towards Lucas.

Too Lucas: Lucas! Keep an eye out! If you get yourself killed I swear to god I'll throw that shotgun of yours into a river and tell everyone I know that you died screaming like a little girl.

There, that aught to inspire him to keep his a** alive just a while longer.

Mya was failing, and so were plenty of others. Julien wasn't sure what was going on with things, but it seemed like everything was just falling apart. He grinned grimly though at hearing Mya's words. Ah, his woman knew him well. He liked to go after things and to try to destroy them like a knight in shining armor. But now was not the time for that s**t.

And then she spoke to Lucas and a wave of pain wove it's way through his soul. In all of this s**t, when he was focusing on her, the daggers, and trying to keep an eye out for that monster... she was speaking to Lucas. Ah, that hurt. That hurt badly. There was a part of his mind that could sickly process all of this as everything was still going.

He attempted to slam his dagger in place again only for it to fail. She was paying attention to Lucas. Oh gods, what was going on between the two of them?!? If they all lived would Mya even still be with him? Or had this ******** up situation drawn her to another man who could give her...? What could another man give her that he already hadn't? For ******** sake, he had given Mya everything possible in his life from the moment they had met. He had known she was the one to spend the rest of his life with from the moment he had laid his pale eyes on her.

And now, in the middle of all of this s**t, she was paying attention to another man.

Are you ever going to say anything helpful Robert? Any suggestions, or just more of your own damned bitching?

Seriously, don't say anything unless you can damn well help.

"I didn't know you were even friends with someone named Lucas. Anyone else I should know about hiding in places?"

Lex cursed as he once again found himself attempting to get his dagger set up. His gaze flickered about as that voice kept talking. He refused to look anywhere near where the fallen Hunter was. Nor did he allow himself the pleasure of caring. This was what a Hunter had to face, as gruesome as it was. And especially now, when they needed to get this barrier up!

::A Hunter, first and foremost. A human only after that.::

The usual sinister whisper from Mordy was strangely somber. But there was truth in his words. Still...

"Don't you get sick and be a girl on me, Librarian!" Lex shot over at his friend. "Head outta the clouds! We gotta get this thing errected!" To emphasize this, Lex threw the dagger down again with some force. He was surprised he hadn't broken a dagger yet.

Cody made a sound that resembled a low growl.

"Its not in the clouds. Its down on earth, in the cold, getting rained on beside you." He countered. Trying his best to follow his friends order and get the dagger in place. Which at first it looked as though it was starting to work, but then the dagger hit a patch of ice and slid out place; destroying the progress of the barrier once more.

"Man, I should have joined the sun division. Hack and slash is more my style."
