Move Solo - Hammer Arm
“Hammer Arm!” Sasha exclaimed as she launched her first forward, like a hammer.
“Owww!” she exclaimed as it bounced off the rock.
“That looks like it hurt….: Lexi commented, “You didn’t break anything, right?”
“I’m fine, but yeah, that really hurt…” Wincing slightly, she shook her arm. “Why hasn’t it worked yet?”
“Why don’t you try hitting something softer? It’d hurt your arm less.”
“I’ll be fine, I need to be able to hit something hard with this; it is a fighting move. It is supposed to be super effective against rocks.”
“You do have a point….” After thinking about the different types of moves, Lexi offered the suggestion. “Well… first you need to practice your form, so maybe if you tried hitting something that wouldn’t hurt. You should try it on me! I am part ghost; it won’t hurt me at all.”
“Are you sure? I don’t want to hurt you.”
“Sasha! I am a psychic, fairy, ghost. The only way a fighting type move would be less effective on me, is if it somehow healed me.”
“I guess… “ Sasha was reluctant. Lexi was certain that the move couldn’t hurt her, but still, she didn’t like the idea of, even accidently, hurting her friend.
“Hammer arm!” she exclaimed, as she wound back and launched her fist at Lexi. The fist, though, passed right through her.
“Woah, that is soooo weird,” Lexi exclaimed, “try it again!”
Feeling more confident, that she wouldn’t hurt her friend, Sasha let her hammer arm fly at full strength. Again, the blow passed right through Lexi’s normally solid form. This time, though, Lexi got a first hand view on the attack.
“Hmm,” Lexi commented, “try holding your shoulder like this.” Lexi demonstrated the positioning. “Also, try putting your fingers like this.” She then proceeded to adjust Sasha’s fist. “Ok, try it again!”
Using Lexi’s suggestions, Sasha attempted Hammer Arm again. As before, Sasha’s fist passed right through her friend.
“That looks a lot better! Try it a few more times!”
Sasha then sent blow after blow through her friend. They trained that way for the rest of the afternoon. Not once did Lexi feel the attack and not once did Sasha recoil with the pain of a failed blow. By the end of the afternoon, Sasha was exhausted. Lexi, while a bit tired from a long day, was nowhere near as tired; she hadn’t been attacking after all.
After the last super ineffective blow, Sasha sat down, her back against a tree. Sitting down next to her, Lexi pulled out a sandwich; it was smoked turkey, with smoked gouda, some clover sprouts, mustard, and mayo. Splitting it in half, Lexi offered half to Sasha and took the other half herself. After yawning, Sasha took a bite. The two girls then proceeded to eat in silence.
After finishing their sandwich halves, Sasha stood up and proclaimed, “Ok, I’m going to try one more time. I am sure I can get it this time.”
“I’m sure you can too!” Lexi cheered, still leaning against the tree.
Slowly, Sasha approached the rock she had previously struck. Sasha took a deep breath and focused her energy into her first. “Hammer Arm!” she shouted, striking the rock with all her might. Her arm passed through it like it was jell-o, and it shattered into hundreds of pieces.

Move Solo - Waterfall
It felt like she had been there for hours…. Which was mostly because she had been there that long. She was trying to learn the move waterfall, but it was completely unrelated to the types of moves she had previously used, and was familiar with. She had had no idea where to start. Lexi had suggested that she visit a waterfall; that she should experience one in real life before trying to use a move that was named for it. Lexi’s reasoning seemed reasonable, so here she was. It was actually quite refreshing, Even if she didn't learn the move, she wouldn’t regret the experience. The water rushing down around her was invigorating; she was definitely a water type pokemon.
During the hours that she had spent underneath the waterfall, she tried focusing on the water in front of her. She tried to make the water erupt upwards. She tried to push as much water as possible, with as much force as she could muster.
At first she noticed nothing. The water didn’t react in the slightest. As time passed, however, little spouts of water began to form. At first they were tiny, no more then droplets rising a few inches. By the second hour, though, she was nearly up to a gallon. The gallon of water didn’t have much force, but it was able to make it a foot or two into the air. She didn’t really understand what she was doing; she just knew she was making progress. Little by little, she gained the ability to control the water, to make it shoot up.
During the third hour, she had worked herself up to a much larger blast; the water nearly rose to her shoulders. While she couldn’t be certain, she was pretty sure that the water had a lot more oomph to it. She was proud of herself; she didn’t think she would progress so far, so quickly. While she knew it was her that put in the effort, she was quite positive that Lexi’s advice was also a large contributor to her current progress.
In the fifth hour, she thought she was almost there. She had enough water flying upwards, but she didn’t think it had the force that she needed it to. There needed to be enough force behind the water that it could launch her into the air, up a waterfall. If she couldn’t do that, the move wouldn’t be complete.
Finally, after six hours, she felt she had mastered the move. She made several large plumes of water appear before her. They shot up, unleashing large amounts of water. She felt that the water even had enough force to lift her large, heavy from. Deciding to put her all into one more blast, she used waterfall directly beneath her. Water shot up under her and she quickly ascended the waterfall, popping up to the waterfall’s source. “It worked!” she exclaimed. She could barely believe it, but she was elated. Without a second thought, she jumped off the waterfall and began running home. She needed to tell Lexi!
