"...It's pink," the grunt noticed as the trainer brought it out, fighting even harder to conceal his smile. Was it a love ball or a heal ball or something...? "Huh. Would'ja look at that," he said, feigning surprise as she popped open the empty pokeball. "Mind if I see that for a sec...?"
With quick reflexes, the teen swiped for the pink sphere in the little girl's hands, ready to recall the Togepi into it. He didn't think he could have taken much more of its heart-rending, ear-splitting, baby pokemon cries. By the time he had attempted to recall it, though, he was already off and running, his worn street sneakers and the legs they held up seeming to take on a life of their own.
Running away from danger had become second-nature to the kid, though he hardly recognized this as he glanced back over his shoulder. He was more concerned about getting away as soon as possible, before the girl had time to realize what had happened. She had probably been suspicious from the start and on top of that, there was that Zubat of hers to worry about.
It was a good thing she was such a young little girl, or Shadow wouldn't have thought he had stood a chance without a pokemon of his own to defend him. It was even more lucky that Zubat didn't have eyes, because with such a broad range to use its echolocation in, the bat pokemon would probably have found it harder to discover Shawn without much to bounce its soundwaves off of like it would have been able to had they been in a cave.

Alba had an idea. Clearing his throat and straightened his shoulders, he used a tone he hadn't used in years. There was no reason he could think of as to why he couldn't sound confident and authoritative in this situation. Right? Right.
"Actually, miss, I'm searching the area in accordance with an ongoing investigation. You wouldn't happen to have come across any Pokemon lately that stood out or otherwise appeared odd to you, would you?"

Valentine "No but-" "See? We don't have anything to worry about." "Yeah, and what kind of lame name is 'Team Rocket' anyways?" The girl who's pokeball was now missing piped in. It seemed no one noticed Valentine's slight of hand.
-----
Tambrey The munchlax worked through the confusion, at least momentarily, and rolled into a ball, revving up a rollout attack, aimed at the flying pink bat. That pokemon wasn't going to let them just escape with its team mate without a fight. Tambrey would be faced with another obstacle when the trainer ran out of the sand attack and chased after her. "Give me back my pokeball!"
-----
Inigo The man didn't notice at all, quite distracted with the adorable and non-violent fluff ball he'd gotten a hold of. The giant man put Clyde down and pointed off into the tree line. "Yeah, there's a big patch of them straight that way."
-----
Shawn The togepi was successfully sucked into the pokeball, and the tiny young girl wailed. "Deedee!" She ran after Shawn, and the zubat followed. It wouldn't take long to lose the girl, though, since her legs were much shorter and she was quickly losing the ability to see due to the waterfall of tears. The zubat wasn't lost so easily, tho.
-----
Alba "Huh?" This seemed to throw the girl off, "Um... no? Why? What are you looking for?"

"Ah, okay, thank you," Inigo said gratefully - he hadn't expected this to be quite so... easy. Well, he wasn't out of the woods yet - or into them, so really.. into the clear-- Ugh, whatever. This wasn't over yet, so he couldn't let his guard down. "C'mon," the teen told the blue-horned Whimsicott as he scooped him up and let the grass-type perch on his shoulder, then turned to look at Bonnie. "Let's--huh?" He frowned and scanned the immediate area before seeing the perpetrator already almost to the treeline the man had pointed to, his pilfered pokeballs still buried deep and invisible in her pink-tinted cottony fluff. Inigo just sighed and chuckled a bit. "She's always the impatient one," he said casually, then offered the man a polite wave. "Well, thanks again for your help. She'd thank you too, but she'd probably rather stuff her face with berries." She'd probably smack him for saying that, but it was true. The petite Whimsicott didn't have a polite bone in her entire body, and she'd much rather eat than do something nice. Oh well. With that, Inigo turned and jogged after her. "Hey, wait up! No getting lost!" Now he just had to hope the giant of a man wouldn't notice nor would think Inigo had anything to do with his missing pokeballs..

Sweet~ Valentine put the hand holding the Pokeball on her hip, making a natural movement while hooking it next to Leven's. She laughed. "If we knew that, we'd be able to get into their heads easier perhaps." The Rocket twirled a strand of her violet hair. "Then we would never have to worry about them crashing anything."
Deciding it was time to leave before her luck was pushed, Valentine turned to the direction she came from. "Oh hey. I gotta go." She waved at a random figure in the distance. She turned back to the group. "Good luck if you participate in the contest. And be careful too if Team Rocket does make an appearance. Give 'em what for if they do."
With that, Valentine started jogging away from the group with a backward wave to the four. Hopefully they wouldn't know the Pokeball was missing until she was far away. She scanned the area to look for a place to hide out just in case.

This wasn't going as well as the grunt had hoped anymore. "What pokeball?" Tambrey tried, jokingly, while her brain rolled along, working out her next courses of action. She watched, and winced, as Lasi was hit by the first round of Roll Out and cursed under her breath, but wasn't too deterred until it was time to start running again... "Lasi! You're a /bat/! Ignore that thing- fly over it- and follow me!" She'd return him when she could... But now she had a trainer chasing her. Well... She had the Wigglytuff, she just had to... there... Treestar vanished in red light. "Pygi!" Ah, the usefulness of Palu's daughter... "Fly me out of here!" If the trainer was out of the Sand Attack and chasing her, than she may as well use her bird for escape rather than distraction. She got ready to jump onto the Pidgeotto if nothing untoward happened next..

Crap. Well. That wasn't exactly a up-lifting victory.
Grunt Shadow guessed right then and there that the most difficult part of accomplishing his mission would be to escape the guilt of stealing from a little girl. Even as he left her wails and tears behind him, the burden of her little pink pokeball suddenly seemed a lot heavier and he had to fight the urge to toss it back over his shoulder.
Instead, the grunt picked up a rock as he ran and tossed it off to one side, hoping to distract the sightless Zubat and throw it off his trail with the noise. He repeated this several more times as he continued to run, trying to justify his thievery in his mind.
She's young. She'll get more pokemon. It's a life lesson she learned the hard way. Besides, it's not like I left her totally defenseless. And she even mistook her precious Deedee for another Togepi just because some stranger said it was. The teen hit a burst of speed, glad he hadn't stayed behind to chat and not wanting to hear the cries of the child anymore. He didn't want to regret his actions, and he certainly didn't want to feel any sympathy toward his own victim.

Alba refrained from grinning in relief. "'Fraid I can't go into too many details. However, we are on the lookout for an oddly colored Pokemon in the area," realizing how much that may limit things, he added, "or Pokemon that wouldn't normally be found around here. Caused some trouble for some locals, you see, and could do some harm to the Pokemon if a repeat occurs. There may be more than one, though. We aren't entirely sure, so we're asking people to keep an eye out and let us know if they see anything."

Inigo It was that easy. Inigo and his pokemon passed into the tree line, and the hulking man continued down the road, still completely unaware that his belt had gotten lighter. He wouldn't notice until later, when trying to challenge another giant of a man, that he had no pokemon with which to battle.
-----
Valentine It seemed that Valentine would have no problems--That was until one of the group asked to see her target's pokemon. The girl looked around, confused as to where her pokeball could have gotten to. She knew she just had it- "Hey!" The only male in the group yelled after Valentine. "Come back here!" It seemed that he'd put two and two together, and now he was after her.
-----
Tambrey The munchlax was returned to its pokeball when Tambrey took to the air, but the coordinator wasn't done yet. "Go, Pipi!" She released a shiny Drifblim and grabbed onto its limbs, giving chase to the rocket surprisingly fast for riding a balloon.
-----
Shawn The pursuing Zubat was struck by one of the rocks, slowed, and eventually stopped chasing Shawn to go tend to its trainer, who had fallen and was wailing about a scraped knee, as well as her stolen togepi.
-----
Alba "Oh... No. I haven't seen anything. Its just me and my Raichu out here..." She looked around, obviously thrown for a loop. "Is it dangerous? Do you need help finding it?"

Not fair. Not fair. Not fair! Why couldn't things go smoothly for her first outing as a trainee? And it had to have been the male to chase after her. It was just her luck as well that she didn't carry anything round the size of a Pokeball, besides her own, to toss as a diversion.
Oh well. At least Valentine was getting exercise. Her pace sped up a little as the adrenaline kicked in, her muscles moving with memories that had been etched into them for months now.
Taking a quick turn, Valentine dashed into a cluster of trees. With luck she'd make her escape through them. The Rocket sidetracked a little, making her path in a different direction than the way to where the meeting place was. If Valentine should fall, she'd fall alone. She wasn't going to get the others caught either.
If all else failed and the trees didn't deter her chaser...Valentine gripped the Pokeball that held Leven, her Tepig. She could always ask him to use Ember on some leaves to make smoke...and a distraction.

Inigo finally caught up to Bonnie, who was busy stuffing her face full of berries she'd found. Huh, guess that mountainish guy really did remember. Speaking of, Inigo braced himself for the inevitable. That guy surely would realize any minute now that his pokeballs were gone, he'd come charging in and beat him to a pulp.. Any second, he'd just come barreling in and just... just....
He wasn't coming.
Oh. Well, that was... easy. Incredibly so. Infinitely easier than he'd at first thought it would be. Huh.. Oh well, he sure as hell wasn't about to complain. So, with an internal shrug, the grunt put Clyde down so he could eat too, then nudged Bonnie's head. "Hey, you still have thos--"
"Whomms'!" She shouted with her mouth full, flailing a red-stained paw at him. Berry juice. With a muffled huff, she dug the two pokeballs out of the fluff on her back and flung them at him - except she couldn't throw for beans, and the pokeballs landed a mere half a foot away. Inigo just chuckled and picked them up, then studied them carefully. Huh. Well, mission accomplished, thankfully. Now to just bring them back.. "Though I think I'm supposed to let her know what they are.. So I guess I should let them out and see, right?" He asked, turning to look down at the two grass-types. Neither replied nor made any indication they even knew he existed, too busy gorging themselves on berries as if they hadn't eaten in a month. He gave the pair a bemused look, then shrugged before he pulled Leilani's ball out and released her in a flash of white. Just in case. "Alright now, let's see what we've got here.." With that, he pressed the button on each pokeball at the same time. In retrospect, perhaps letting out two pokemon he'd just stolen at the exact same time was one of those bad ideas.

Oh what? "Oh Frak..." Tambrey muttered, peering over her shoulder to see the rather disturbing revelation that she was /still/ being pursued by the coordinator. On a shiny Drifblim. Huh. Well now she kind of regretted grabbing the Wigglytuff so soon- if Team Rocket knew she'd grabbed a normal over a shiny, it probably wouldn't look good. Then again, the orders had been to avoid capture... The grunt turned her head, still gripping Pygi as they flew, seeking out Lasi; perhaps returning him right now wasn't the best idea. She still didn't know whatever else that girl was carrying but, well, something needed to be done to lose her. "Lasi! Lasi, target /the trainer/ there- supersonic!" She shouted to the bat and then leaned a little to talk to her bird. She knew they'd have to land before too long- Pygi wasn't that long evolved, into her second form, nor was she used to 'Fly' yet, despite knowing it for a while. It would likely tire her out. Again, though, something was needed. "Pygi, turn. We're going to fly straight at the Drifblim and then you are going to use Gust when I say, okay?" With a screech of confirmation from the bird type, and with the pink bat targeting the trainer, Pygi, and Tambrey, turned to face coordinator and balloon. The bird covered a short distance before Tambrey called out "Now!" and caused her to send the wind-based attack toward the balloon. She seemed to intend to try to confuse and knock the Drifblim's trainer off.

Whoops. Shadow hadn't actually intended to hit the pokemon with one of the stones, but the fact that it kept from pursuing him much further after that was a bonus. Not bad for a grunt without a pokemon. Maybe it had been a little foolish and somewhat reckless of him since he had seemed to have gotten out of that situation out of sheer luck. Had that girl been a little older, more cautious, and stronger, he might have been in trouble. But overall, not bad.
After a while, Shawn stopped by the side of the road to catch his breath, chest heaving with his hands on his knees. He walked a little more as he kept track of the sun to watch for sundown, wondering if anyone else had completed their tasks yet. He paused to look down at the stolen pokeball once the adrenaline left him, thinking about the girl who'd been crying. Stop it, he chided himself mentally. There's no need for any of that.
The teen made his way at a casual pace back to the meeting spot, still fighting hard not to think about the girl. He kept an eye out for their elite agent, keeping the pokeball in his grip and his hand in his pocket. He sighed, his expression melancholy as he peered into the distance for signs of his fellow teammates.

There was a momentary glance down to the Jolteon, and its subtle reaction to his approach, the girl's was noted as well. But, the reactions didn't progress from there, and she had answered his questions, and had given Jerome an initial understanding of what kind of personalities he might be up against.
Taking in a breath of his smoke, that was once again exhaled from his lips as he looked down in the direction the girl had indicated. <********" He growled under his breath. He squinted his eyes a little, as if considering his course, before the noises from the distant talking had turned much louder, and was now more like the sounds of crying. It wasn't hard to guess what happened. but he shifted to glance over in the direction, Wondered who that was, pretty quick work on their part, not bad, unless you considered the kind of target they had, Sounded like a pretty small kid.
Jerome was used to working with others, but, he couldn't rely on that this time. Just like his team mate had done, it seemed it was time for Jerome to figure out how to do this task on his own. Shifting a boot behind him, so that he could turn back to face the girl and her Jolteon.
He opened his mouth, still acting as calmly as he had when he walked up to her, and looked as if he was going to ask another question. But instead of words coming out of his mouth, Jerome suddenly burst into movement, two long steps forward, and in a movement just as smooth and quick, the gangster, using one hand to support him, kicked himself over the back of the bench, at the same time reaching the other one out in an attempt to wrap it around the girls neck and pull her into a tight hold.
As Jerome moved, so, in turn, did his Gangar. the cackling ghost launching himself from Jerome's shadow, charging the Jolteon and lifting his hand up in an attempt to hit the Jolteon with a brick Break attack.

A Raichu, huh? That could be a good start for someone on their first legit training mission, but it was going to be a tough one if faced head-on by any on his team. But maybe if...
"Ah, thanks, but that won't be necessary," Alba answered with a gracious smile. "They shouldn't be much of a problem in the day. Just notify us if you happen to see any suspicious pokemon over the next few days." Time to move on. "Have a good day, miss." Alba nodded his head in something of a bow, and headed in a direction to the side. All things willing, he would be able to circle around without being noticed.
