"No, I know you didn't." Jordan shoved his hands into his pockets, thinking. "The last mission? ... How much of that do you remember?"

The look of nervous embarrassment didn't leave Jerry's face, his smile faltering, "Er.... well, I mean. There's always... er... spottyness. But I'm generally a bit flaky so I mean, that's all understandable, ahahaha... um." He cleared his throat, glancing about as though looking for an excuse to wander off. He... he was doing alright. Even Dr. H had said so. "N-nothing more experience can't um." No, that explanation didn't even make sense in context. "I mean, that is.... er... I've always just sort of... my brain's a bit ahaha... um... I... I really didn't mean it, I was just.... on auto pilot, I suppose."

That was not reassuring in the least. Jordan had had plenty of experience sidestepping questions himself; he hadn't failed to notice that Jerry hadn't actually answered his question. He frowned, worried. "Do you remember any of it?" Because that rambling, nervous excuse had certainly suggested that that might be the case.

"The Sahara mission." Jordan sighed. "Come on, let's go back inside and sit down somewhere. I'm a little shaky still."

"Oh! Oh, yeah, of course! I think I busted a stitch or two with that, ahahahhaa... some coffee would be good." He cleared his throat, landing a skinny arm around Jordan's shoulder half for physical support for the both of them, and half for the emotional. "The Sahara mission? Oh, that! Uh... I remember.... a lot of flowers? It was really an odd mission, wasn't it?"

" ... Flowers?" Okay, yeah, more than probable that Jerry had done the same thing then. Also probably a good idea to get him to sit down before explaining what had actually happened. "It was an odd mission," he said neutrally, and put his hand on Jerry's back, steering him gently back towards the complex. While Jordan hadn't been injured aside from perhaps a few bruises, he was tired from the exertion of the fight, and if Jerry had actually popped stitches, he'd need to get that seen to.
Still, Jordan was pretty sure that if he didn't get this discussion out now, it wasn't going to happen.

They made their way inside with Jerry casually changing the subject, yammering on about anything BUT missions, "I've had a few people interested in my choir, you know! It should be a lot of fun if you wanted to join in! I was thinking I could write some actual Hunter songs, but for now we can start off with stuff everyone knows. I'll put a flier up when I've got enough interested parties to have an official meeting of sorts!"

"I don't really sing much," Jordan said, but he couldn't help smiling a little at Jerry's obvious enthusiasm. He left the topic of missions alone until they'd gotten back to the cafeteria and found a quiet corner, picking up a glass of water along the way.
Once they'd sat down, though, he rested his elbows on the table and took the first opportunity to ask. "Sorry to bring it back up, but I need to know how much our recollections of the Sahara mission match. Could you tell me what you do recall?"

Jerry laughed nervously as he sat with his own nice warm cup of coffee, concentrating on tearing open his creamers, "It was all rather silly. I wrote my report about it. Er... I met a nice fellow named Ryan who helped me carry that rotted wood. Why such an interest in it? That must have been one of the more unremarkable missions I can recall."

Rotted wood, flowers ... it kind of sounded like Jerry had completely dissociated from the horror of the pit, his mind substituting some safer metaphor to keep him from panicking and losing it completely. Jordan's frown deepened. Really not good. Should he leave the subject for one of the doctors in the Life division? This was way out of his depth. But Jerry wouldn't know why he was being directed there.
Jordan took a careful, deep breath, and waited until Jerry had finished fiddling with the creamers. "Jerry," he said. "That wasn't wood we were carrying. It was human bodies."

Jerry laughed outright at that, dumping another creamer in before shaking his head, "I think I'd remember something like that. It's kind of silly, sending us on a gardening errand. I wrote that in my report too."

"Ask Roar." Jordan rubbed his thumb over Ferros's ring. "We fought something huge there. Do you remember that?"

"Er..."Jerry's eyes darted back and forth, trying to recall, "I... I remember... someting about... groundhogs and..."
You are a total nutter, you know that, right?
His face went green.

"I don't blame you for not wanting to know. It was bad. Really bad." Jordan shuddered, pushing the memory away. "But there's going to be times when you're going to need to be fully online and functioning so you can think fast enough in a bad situation. I don't want you getting hurt because you weren't all there when you needed to be. Or anyone else, for that matter."
The idea made him feel a little sick. Maybe it was good that he'd seen this now.
