Yeata Zi Eruravenne The Iron Magus I just hope that if and when we find extraterrestrial life, it's friendly. But I feel kinda pessimistic about that... throughout human history, whenever a more advanced society has encountered a less advanced society, things have ended poorly for the less advanced society. I don't see any reason why it would be any different if the two parties were aliens and humans, as opposed to Europeans and Native Americans, or the Spanish and the Aztecs. I dunno... I mean, I really doubt people would repeat the mistakes of the past if, for example, we found an alien civilization that was significantly more primitive than us (but still clearly intelligent) and we were somehow able to reach it. I think an alien civilization that was more advanced than us would probably also be more socially advanced. Or a bunch of murderous warlords intent on galactic domination. Or perhaps emotionless, genocidal sociopaths who consider us no more than insects... Or they could end up being so different from us that communication is impossible. Of course, it's all just speculation until we find them. *shrug* (Edit: That book looks fun. lol) Ehhhhh.... I more or less agree with TiM. Every time two new societies met in human history--we pretty much waged war, trying to expand our borders. Except we are basing it off of our own race. If we meet alien life, it could be a completely different race with different views. They could of maybe have survived such a thing of Strong vs Poor and would treat us with respect. @Eruravenne Here's the thing though, that is internal tech. That obviously is huge leaps but these planets that they are looking for are LIGHT YEARS away. A decrease from 7 months to one is fascinating but some of these planets would require going about 30 to 300 times the speed of light to even reach in a respectable time.

But, keep in mind, in each period of history, these actions that we look back on as being monstrous (practically exterminating the native Americans and stealing their land, slavery, etc.) were considered perfectly moral and acceptable at the time. So, if a bunch of highly advanced aliens happen upon us, who knows what will be their idea of fair and ethical treatment? Yeata Zi I love you, Tim. Lesssssssssgetmarried Okay.
