Taryn thrust both arms up in the air and gave a triumphant shout. It was pretty clear that Mort had let her win, but she had won regardless... well, over him, not over the 6 other NPCs whose acronym she both didn't know and wouldn't understand. Everyone had to start somewhere. Her mirth was interrupted, though, when her cart seemed to explode and her characters were thrown around the screen.

"Hey!" she laughed, turning and giving Mort a playful whack on the shoulder. He had waited to blow her up! That was nice! She was still grinning at hew new friend, laughing and looking like she hadn't had this much fun in a long time.

To be honest, neither had Mort. Not that his experiences thus far in Amity had all been bad, but the last time he had been expressly excitable (even playful) was hard to recall. The closest he had come was his man-date with Herryk, which even then had been tainted by the simple fact that apparently charging an eyePhone up using your own electricity was a bad idea; stupid Brain.

Mort took the whack in stride, nonetheless looking quite pleased with the outcomes. Even as a small horde of skeletal bats made faces at the players as the game went to the scoreboard, his grin didn't diminish. "And is why vidyo games are best thing evar," the zombie proclaimed proudly as he rubbed the area where Taryn had socked him. "Am glad got to show! Had fun?" It was a question he probably didn't have to ask, but there it was anyway. "Waaaaay better n' study."

If Taryn was perceptive enough, Mort had yet to answer her question about how many people he usually played this game with.

If he didn't want to answer, he didn't have to answer. Taryn wasn't about to question him a second time. Instead she laughed and nodded, folding her legs up under her as if in defense, not wanting to leave. There had to be more video games, right? This one was fun, but what else was there? Mort had opened her eyes to so many possibilities--!

"I did!" the ghoul nodded, and even though she questioned if it was better than studying it was certainly very different. "Can we play again? Or maybe something else?" This being her first video game, Taryn was rather attached to it and wouldn't mind going another round or five now that she had a better idea of the controls.

"Yeeeeeees!" 8DDD Oh how Mort's face lit up. "Can put on favorite track this time." He selected new race on the screen and brought them back to the character selection. "Hear there is club for Scario Kart," he mentioned as he re-selected Growlser and then switched out King Boo for Scario himself - oh the fun of mortal enemies stuck in one kart together! "Sh-Should totally find and join, yes?"

AND THEN EPIC TEAMING UP COULD ENSUE.

"Oh, is there?!" Taryn asked excitedly. Maybe that was why it had sounded so familiar? She certainly had gone over the clubs list a number of times. She had plans to stick with her original pair until she saw Mort abandon King Boo, and stole him for herself in place of the 'green baby'. "I think I'd like to join too, although I imagine I'd make myself look like a fool. You must really love something to make a club, and they're probably all good at it. Seventh place is a shame." Even then, she didn't seem to put-off by the idea. Everyone was terrible at some point, right? Unless their natural ability was technological... or their weapon was a game controller...
PostPosted: Wed Dec 14, 2011 11:06 am

"Naaah~ Play for fun anyway," Mort replied cheerily as he then began to flip through the available racetracks, having also grinned as Taryn stole the King. He'd never be able to look at the character again the same way - one of the few (if only) humorous ties back to the horrid Haunted House. "Is not always to be best, yes? Lotsa gamers b-boast n' is not bad, but some take too seriously."

Just look at the interweb for a few minutes in the right places, and the amount of e-peen stroking would be intense. Not that Mort had been a part of them. No sir. Not at all.

At least on Scario Kart. >>

"P-Point is, club is for share love, not raaaaaarmustbebest." And then, humorously: "Think if Abby had hands, would play?" The zombie turned his gaze towards Taryn's snake which, last he referred to it, had been "snake-butt". But forgive the guy: he had been chasing after a damsel in distress and was not thinking clearly. Plus it had been in his head! That wasn't a crime, right? Right? DD8

Nonononono, self, no need to make word vomit.

Taryn could only nod. She didn't know many (read: any other) gamers herself, but she imagined it was much like anything else. There would be braggarts and those that the community itself couldn't stand. It was like a little mini subculture...

"Oh? Well maybe I'll look into it, then," the ghoul reasoned, giving a little nod, and then smiled. Would Abigail... "No, probably not..." Taryn responded, patting Abigail's head, "She's pretty dumb. In my natural form, I have three heads, but it seems like in this one it's separated us. We're kind of the same consciousness? But not really. She's just a dumb animal." As if to exemplify this fact, the chimera took the snake by the neck and shook her some, almost looking as if she was throttling it. Abigail didn't respond at all, looking around the room and at Mort like any good tail. Taryn wasn't upset, so neither was Abigail. Maybe she was even dumber than the average animal...

oWo The throttling and lack of response was . . . interesting. "Three heads? No wonder so smart, three brains!" Mort concluded nonetheless because, animal brains or not, having three had to mean that was why Taryn was so smart in the first place. "C-Can see lots things, read lots, hear lots . . . Jealous~"

Mrrrr. Speaking of smartness and knowledge, Mort wondered about a particular topic his friend might be able to divulge upon. "H-Has quick quesshion 'fore we go: where scarelings from come? And why pumpkins need?" o3o

"It's pretty amazing," Taryn admitted, nodding, "but I'm not in my natural form very often any more. I was raised like this, my parents are almost... ashamed of being monsters. So here I am~" She seemed to study the game controller for a moment, deep in thought, and then turned to Mort again. ...oh, Jack! She'd had this discussion before!

"Well if FEAR is unbalanced in a couple they can get some bad diseases if the FEARs interact. A pumpkin is neutral, so they can focus their FEARs on that and create a little scareling with less worry!" Now as long as he didn't ask what 'mating' was...

"Suu . . . put hands together n' pumpkin, b-baby come?" o3o??? "N' why sh-shame on monster be?" While he'd always be jealous of other students' abilities, Mort would also always have undead pride, as he viewed them as the underdogs of the Halloween world.

"I hear you have to make a wish," Taryn nodded. Thank Jack it seemed like he was just going to leave it there. "Anyway, my parents... monsters are beneath reapers, beneath demons... they don't much like being beneath anybody. So rather than have pride, they chose to becomes as reaper-like as possible, even with all our extra parts. I think it's silly, personally..."
PostPosted: Tue Dec 20, 2011 5:21 pm

A wish, huh? Seemed too easy . . . And also very different from some of the pirated manga he had viewed on his laptop. o3o Unless a human's version of a "pumpkin" was a euphemism for something . . . "Is silly! Undead lower n' monsters," Mort answered cheerily, shrugging. "But understand wanting be somethin' else. Does it too." He gestured towards his closet. "Have l-lotta comic books, book books, manga books . . . Imagine be other things n' smelly, stupid, slow zombie."

Was that a hint of bitterness? If so, it went away quickly.

"B-But 'member that if low, only can go up. Will one day make zombies scarier. Did know, humans l-like zombie lots?" he asked, incredulous at the notion of being part of some fleshbag's fanclub instead of nightmare fuel.

Comic books Taryn knew... but manga? What in the world was that? No matter, Mort had moved on with a hint of venom in his voice. There she had gone, complaining about the lowliness of monsters while forgetting that her friend was something even less, in the eyes of society. Amityville had changed her opinion, really. Everyone worked together. The ghoul no longer saw her peers (or others) in terms of species or subspecies.

"You're not stupid," Taryn defended. She had never seen him run and he certainly had a particular scent... but since when did that matter? She brushed her hair behind her ear nervously and itched her chin. Oh? Hmmm...

"Well I just saw a movie about humans fighting zombies, actually. What do they like? That seems silly, zombies are pretty terrifying. Being eaten in general... not fun." humans were really jackdamn stupid...
PostPosted: Tue Dec 20, 2011 6:12 pm

"Did? Mrr . . ." Mort said nothing continuing the derogatory line of thinking, but nodded at the mention of a movie. "Saw one t-too. While back, n' movie club. Humans have lotta books on it: s-survival, how be if 'turned', what do if apocalypse come . . ." All smiles, as if only amused - no bitterness from before. "Saw b-bootleg once've vidyo game from humans. Big adult had kid who bitten; try n' cure, kill other zombies with funny weapons."

Weren't they supposed to be playing Scario Kart? Mort had all but forgotten, derailed by the line of conversational topics.

"Same game g-got mod: make humans zombies n' zombies humans. Save scareling f-from human plague. Kinda neat."

What was he going for again with this? Oh! "N'way, in game has group've humans, try s-support zombies as humans too. Rights, families, n' stuff." A small snort. "Stupid . . . not want be like humans."

Especially not after the Hunter escapade.

"Huh! Interesting," Taryn nodded, now sitting back and just watching Mort. She adored learning and was more than content to just sit there and absorb the information. She had played no video games, she hadn't seen the fascination between humans and zombies. She had always simply assumed that everything from Halloween terrified humans. Now... what was this about not wanting to be like them? She had never met anyone like a human, rights and families aside. They were too different.

"I think humans should stay human, and zombies should stay zombie. Our species eve in Amityville aren't... lesser or more, but definitely different. That's what makes it so interesting!"
