"Whoa whoa whoa!" Madison yelped as suddenly the HAMMER WAS ON FIRE HOLY s**t. Kouki hissed as the impact burned, eating through a significant amount of the weapon's power while also singing Madison's coat. Again. Why did they even HAVE coats?!
"... That's kinda more awesome when it's aimed at a freak, but we gotta practice somehow," Madison said, after a moment. She grinned and brought her swords up in guard position again.

"I hear you there," Jordan agreed. "The expression the first time someone sees it is always great, though." He grinned at Madison, a cheerfully wicked glint in his eyes. "Sorry about the coat. I think next time I'm taking mine off before sparring."
She'd gone back into a defense stance, and he moved a few steps back, studying the way she held herself. Maybe if ... he came straight at her, Ferros held low, and at the last moment spun to bring the hammer arcing up and around from an unexpected direction.

"They must go through, like, all the bleach," Madison muttered, then tensed as Jordan came at her. She tried to redirect the force of the blow, but Ferros was just too heavy in comparison to Kouki, and he'd attacked in a way she hadn't been expecting. Her attempt at a return attack skidded off into thin air, and she jumped back, circling around and to the side.

Getting closer to finishing this, maybe; Ferros was making satisfied little growling noises, and Jordan's sense of how much energy his weapon had left was dwindling. But he'd been getting in some good hits, and Maddie couldn't have much left either. He used the energy of the rebound to follow her retreat, bringing Ferros around again; he was still smiling, a bright, evil grin.

That last blow knocked Madison off-balance, and she fell awkwardly, unsummoning Kouki to avoid stabbing herself with her own weapon. "Okay, okay, I give! You win. I blame the yogurt," she added, with a slight frown. "Slowing me down."

Jordan checked his momentum immediately, unsummoning Ferros as well, and offered Maddie a hand to help her up. "I knew there was a reason I avoided the stuff," he answered, and chuckled. "You know there's live bacteria in yogurt? Good for the digestion, apparently, but I just can't quite get around the idea."
More seriously, he added, "Good spar. I was pretty close to done myself. You've really gotten faster."

"You think so? I've been practicing. Trying to get better at dodging and stuff... and just generally less clumsy. The sharpest thing I had before Kouki was like... a nail file, so." She made a face, then took his hand and got to her feet, expression shifting into an easy grin.
"You two are a serious combination, man. No wonder they put you in Sun."

"It's working," Jordan said. "You saw how long it took me to get you at all - heck, I call that pretty awesome. Especially without previous experience with sharp objects. Ferros is a bit more straightforward, though I'm still getting the hang of really using his weight."
I am large and good at smashing things, Ferros said, satisfied.
Yes, you are. "Thanks," he said aloud. "Never would've thought I'd enjoy fighting this much, but being able to just go through what's opposing us is more fun than it should be." He patted Maddie's shoulder. "Come to think of it, that's probably why we're in Sun, right there."

"Oh, man. Do you remember... back when we first got here? I mean first first. When we were all Alphas. I think I threw the weapon I was assigned, and it was really really not a throwing weapon." She shook her head sheepishly. "My idea of a fight was pulling somebody's hair... I still wonder what the hell I'm doing, sometimes. And then I realize I like it. More beating up them than you, though."

Jordan laughed. "I remember. I managed to whack myself over the head with mine. That was pretty embarrassing. ... Ferros, stop laughing."
It's funny! The weapon subsided, but his muffled snickering continued.
Jordan ignored the mental laughter with as much dignity as he could muster. "Yeah. More practice and we'll jut keep getting better at beating them, too," he agreed.
