"Don't hurt yourself," Jordan said, and raised an eyebrow at Robert, trying for nonchalant and mostly managing nervous. Still blushing. Yep.

"WAIT!" Robert roared, scrambling back up to a sitting position, right next to his boss. "Nuh uh, you said you had girlfriends. Wait.." He looked around for any hidden cameras.
"Wait.."
Another few seconds passed by.
"Wait.."
... still waiting, Robert.
Finally, he grinned. "You're punking me. You son of a b***h, you are, aren't you? WHERE'S THE CAMERAS! Did Clarice put you up to this? THAT b***h!"

If he started laughing again now, Robert would think he really was joking, but it was difficult. The look on Robert's face - no, no, don't laugh. Jordan thumped Robert on the shoulder with a fist and admitted, "It's a relatively recent discovery." ... Please don't ask when. Or who.
He snorted. "Anyway, if it was a prank, wouldn't Julie be a more likely suspect than Clarice?" He might still be a little bitter over the whole feminine product mission fiasco. Except that right now, he couldn't keep up a good fume over it. In fact, from an outsider's perspective, it had probably been pretty ridiculously funny.

Robert was still looking for the cameras for a solid twenty seconds, before his incredulous look faded and he slumped down to stare at Jordan some more. Did he look different now? Not really.. Was he any less the man Robert had vowed to follow to the ends of the earth?
Robert tried, really hard, to see any differences.
"Recent, huh?" Robert's shaky voice muttered. "Like.. today recent?" OH GOD HAD HE JUST REALIZED IT JUST NOW WITH ROBERT? Robert smacked his forehead - why did he have to be so damn sexy. THIS WAS ALL HIS FAULT. HE'D TURNED THE BOSS GAY. ********?" Robert paused in his self-flagellation to pinch his face up. "Don't know Julie. All I know is Clarice has got it out for me." But the ladies and their feminine wiles did not concern this conversation. Apparently, they really did not concern it. Because boss was a butt pi-
No. No, Robert told himself. He wasn't going to be an a** to Jordan, of all people. He respected this man, for better or for worse.
"So.." He would have taken the news harder, if he didn't feel so damn jolly about everything. Maybe it wasn't so bad. Maybe Jordan would make a fine gay. Robert pulled out another cookie, considered shoving it in his mouth, and then held it out to the man beside him.

"Not quite that recent, no." Jordan snickered. "Sorry, man. Not that you're not hot, but your ego doesn't need any encouragement from me." Robert had plenty of encouragement from Petra and his own brain, after all.
So apparently Robert had managed to miss the gossip. Or hadn't connected it with the previous statement, Jordan didn't know. He shrugged. "Hazing," he said sympathetically. "One day, when we're the experienced ones laughing at the bright-eyed young trainees - yeah, no, we'll probably torture them just as much." He accepted the cookie equably and leaned back against the bed, munching on it and closing his eyes. If Robert wanted to give him that worried stare, he could - it wasn't like Jordan was any different, after all.
Huh. Not that he hadn't known that anyway, but he felt better for having had the thought consciously.

Hazing? There was hazing around here? There was hazing and he hadn't been a part of it?
Robert sulked, for a full minute, gnawing on a cookie thoughtfully. But he couldn't stay sad for long - not when these cookies made him feel so good. in the pants. There was a warm, happy feeling in his heart, regardless of how messed up the conversation was.
"Wait.. what the ********?" Robert's slow mind had only just processed that Jordan was gay without any help from Robert's irresistable physique. "First off, I don't know what you mean by the ego thing so I'm just gonna move on from that." The stupid was contagious, Jordan, be careful. "What made you realize it then? Also, ******** you very much I just got the ego thing."
He was a modern marvel, that Robert.

"You're welcome." Jordan opened one eye and studied Robert. "Are you really asking me that? You're really asking me that. Are you sure you want to know?" He put the hand not currently occupied with a cookie over his eyes and groaned. "You'll laugh. And I'll deserve it."

"OF COURSE I wanna know!" Robert bellowed, eyes widened in what almost looked like dismay. "Oh ********, it's that Leon guy isn't it." Robert legitimately could not think of anyone else in the facility who could have turned his boss gay other than himself.

Robert hadn't been on that disastrous "mission," and would therefore have no idea why Jordan was suddenly laughing his a** off again. "No," he sputtered in between snorts. "No, I - there's a reason I told you not to ask - aw, hell." He was off into gales of laughter again. Blaming the cookies. Definitely blaming the cookies.
Once he wound down again, he took another big bite of the cookie, because judging by the rest of this amazingly embarrassing conversation he was just going to have to straight-up admit it, and he could really use another good burst of happy.
" ... Jerry."

Robert was going to throw up all of his cookies.
"Jerry." He deadpanned, blinking heavily.
"Jerry." He repeated, bringing his hands up to hold like glasses on his face.
"Jerry." Robert tugged on his nose, trying to elongate it.
Something was just not computing in his mind.
"I'm sorry, have you SEEN these?" Robert exclaimed, tugging his shirt up enough to smack his six pack.

"Hey," Jordan defended himself, his tone long-suffering. "If I had any choice about who I was attracted to, I would've picked somebody who'd be interested in return, okay?" He unfolded one leg and kicked at Robert's foot. "Dude, he came to ask me for advice about making up with Candace, and I figured out in the middle of it that I was jealous - most awkward conversation ever, dude." He paused to consider it. "This one's definitely in the running, though."

Granted, that did make sense, but still.. He barely moved at the kick, and made a face.
"Ouch, man.." He winced, realizing just how hard that would have been. "That's.. that's rough." He reached around and wrapped one arm around Jordan, hugging him around the neck. The back of his mind vaguely registered that he didn't feel awkward about hugging Jordan, even though.. yeah. Maybe it was because Robert felt slighted at not being the object of everyone's affections. Or, maybe, he just cared about Jordan, and all of his fellow Phoenixes, enough not to care.
"Does he know?"

"Yeah." Jordan let himself lean against Robert's side, grateful that the bigger man wasn't pulling away from him, in spite of everything he'd just admitted. All concerns about attraction and orientation aside, Robert was still his best friend, and if this had made things too awkward between them, he'd have been kicking himself for letting it slip for ages.
"No," he yelped in response to the question, going tense. "Jesus, I sure hope not, I've been trying real hard not to let him know. Dude. Awkward enough that I feel weird about it, can you imagine if he figured it out? I wouldn't be able to look him in the eye for weeks."

If someone had ever asked Robert if he ever could have imagined having a gay best friend - no, being -okay- with a gay best friend, he would have laughed in their face and then punched them in the gut.
But he was a different person, here. Just like Reine, he had been intent on starting a new life. He just would never have guessed how different.
"Yeah," he breathed out quietly. I guess you're right. It's funny, though, I honestly expected.. well.. you know." He waved his free hand wildly. "Jerry. If anyone was gonna be.."
Robert shut up before he got insulting.
