Roch grinned at that smile, glad he'd thought of this, even if it WAS a selfish desire that prompted it in the first place. He took one of the little snacks offered, saying his thanks, and headed inside the festive store.
"My dad and my granddad took me to this town," he told Chuppi. "Called Muertes. It was AWESOME. They had this fast paced music playing and ladies like the one out front dancing, and skeletons on stilts and booths full of things to buy--" He was so busy looking around that he forgot what he was saying.

"Oh, the Catrinas are very nice indeed. I have not yet to meet one I dislike." She might have said that wrong but at least Chuppi was trying to stay on topic. The whole feel of the shop that Roch had brought her into reminded her of home, or at least her culture, and it put her heart at ease.
"I have never been to Muertes though, but mi familia always celebrated holidays no matter where we were."

"It was awesome," Roch told her. "I definitely plan on going back sometime. Oh, there's the pinatas," he said, pointing to the ones hanging from the ceiling. "Jack, there's tons of them," he said in amazement. "How can you pick just one??"
He headed for them, only to get distracted as he went, finding more cool things to point out to her.

"What is the theme for the party? Knowing the theme will help you narrow down, or you can always get two of them. One for serious play, one for decorations." It was always fun to have a pinata around for now reason, and perhaps then later on having another one would save a trip.
Chuppi liked to think practical.

".... Music?" he offered. "Music's a great theme for it!" he said, grabbing onto it with both hands and starting to look through the massive collection for something--or two things that would work. "Chuppi! Chuppi! It's a guitar!" he said excitedly, pointing at it.

"Oh, they also have music note shaped ones, and perhaps then just buy the guitar one if you like it best? Do you have enough silver seeds?" Buying a pinata mattered nothing if you couldn't afford it anyway and Chuppi didn't have any seeds to lend. "Maybe get a sombrero too!"

"I think the note and the guitar," he said, turning as one of the workers came up. "Can we get that one and that one?" he asked the man, grinning as they were pulled down and handed over. They were bigger than he'd thought. The man carried them to the front desk, and Roch looked at Chuppi. "Want to look at anything else before we check out?"

"Um...." Chuppi wasn't going to lie, there was a really pretty dress near the door that had caught her eye as they came in. She had no seeds though, as she recalled, and the fact that well.. . . it probably wouldn't fit anyway. "N...no."
It would take a blind person though not to notice how she looked at it.

"Chuppiiii," he said, crouching down beside her. "See this?" he asked her, holding out a decent sized bag of silver seeds. "I can refill this with no problem, just an hour on a street corner with my guitar. Do you want to see if they got that in your size?" he asked.

Wait what? What what what? Was Roch offering to buy Chuppi a dress? the little monster's eyes opened wide and she all about back-pedaled out of the store and into the main hall of the maul. Why were people buying her things lately, was she being greedy and somehow asking for them without actually asking for it?! Could they read her mind?! "Butt....butt...."

"It's the last of the cash that I took from my pop for gifts for my friends, screech," he told her. "It'd be fulfilling its destiny, y'know?" he added. "Hey, Mister, do you have that dress in her size?" he said, standing and waving to the guy with the pinatas.
"Si! Is very popular with the small ones," the man said. "Margarita! Bring us a smaller version of the dress by the door!"
"Siii!" the catrina called as she came in and headed for the back.
"My Margarita, she is a beauty, is she not?" the man said, sighing happily as his wife came out with the dress.
"We'll take that and the pinatas," Roch said.

Chuppi's face turned six shades of red as the dress was brought out to her and she looked at it, all the want clearly written all over it. It was going to be hard to figure out how to repay Roch for this, even if she said he didn't want to be, and the monster gingerly reached out and placed a hand on the fabric.
"Gra...gracias." Her words were soft, so mute.

She looked better now, he thought as he counted out the seeds and took the massive bags with the pinatas in them from the man that ran the shop. "Thanks," he said to the man, grinning as he saw the awed look on Chuppi's face.
She reminded him just a tiny bit of Carmelita, he thought as the Catrina bagged the dress for Chuppi, handing it over to her. "We'll definitely be back sometime, right, Chuppi?" he asked her.

"You...didn't really have to buy that for me. I don't deserve such things like this, and now I feel. . . . " Awkward? Unhappy because she was getting things she didn't deserve? Should she have felt grateful and kept her mouth shut, or should she speak out that while Roch's kindness was more than welcome, he made her feel all the more terrible for it?
It wasn't intentional though so she didn't fret on it too hard, instead taking the bag when it was held to her and she mutely nodded her head in response. This place felt nice, it reminded her of home.
Perhaps she was homesick after all of this?

"Now," Roch said. "Let's talk about how you can pay me back, if you're going to look that irritated with me," he teased her as he headed for the door. "What can you offer, Choops? A song or two? A concert? I'll want to get a tape recorder for that!"
