The Iron Magus Yeata Zi No idea! I celebrate the way my parents do. Which is long and painful. With Christmas eve dinners, midnight church, hideous decorations that I have to put up, prickly murdered christmas trees, tolerating my drunk piece of s**t uncle as he insults my mother (his sister), me and my sister when all I want to do is punch him in his smug mouth etc. etc. You know... normal christmas s**t. Hey, I have an uncle like that! surprised Yeata Zi No wonder the holidays have the highest suicide rate of any other time of year. <3 I actually used to be a "peer minister" at my college--but I've more or less given up on that. They screwed me over on taxes, and there's only so much I can do when my only job is to buy food for everyone on Sunday nights and try to set up prayer meetings that no one will show up for. I actually think that perr minister job has turned me somewhat from religion..... which is kinda terrible. stare Awful. Terrible thing to be turned from religion. You'll be a joyless atheist like me in no time. xp Yeata Zi Anyways, I think I'd like to talk about happy holiday stuff. Okay, cool, um... I'm probably going to be getting a Kindle, a new phone, and a video game for Christmas. Whee! Yeata Zi Being Jewish sounds awesome *dreamily stares into the distance* You SAY you have no idea what your preferred way to celebrate is, but it sure sounds like you do. What is it about the way Hanukkah is celebrated that sounds so appealing to you? Hopefully I won't be completely joyless <3 I think I'm getting an iPod touch and some comic books. My fella has seems to have hidden something biggish in the closet. Perhaps a Wii? Or a PS3? I do want to play little big planet. Eh Hanukkah isn't that appealing... other than the not horribly commercialized aspect of it--but boy, oh boy, do I love Rosh Hashanah.

Yeata Zi Eruravenne Actually, Ascension Day is forty days after Easter... Though I'm not actually sure if all denominations celebrate all those days (I was raised Episcopalian aka Catholic-Lite), so I guess it doesn't matter. But anyway... You're right about why Christmas is so much bigger than Easter. It probably also has to to with secularization, too. It's easier for non-Christians to celebrate Christmas than Easter, I think. I mean, even in Walmart, you can buy chocolate crosses alongside the chocolate bunnies at Easter. It's kind of silly. sweatdrop I'm Episcopal too! HIGH FIVE! Yeah, I was raised Episcopalian as well. Maybe I'll buy me one of those chocolate crosses next Easter. Mmm... delicious milk-chocolate implement of painful execution. *drools*

Not joyless, but atheist... maybe... eh? mrgreen Sweet. What comics are you hoping for? I played Little Big Planet. I got it for free as a reward for having my identity stolen. It didn't really hook me; I only played the first few levels. What's so bad about commercialization, anyway? And also, what's Rosh Hashanah, and why's it so awesome? Sorry to hear you're sick. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Even if I'm wrong and there is nothing, at least I have something to cling to in life. If I convince myself that there is some kind of plan for me made by some bigger than everything being--well, life seems a little less crummy, doesn't it? Little Big Planet looks so cute. Eh. I think commercialization takes away the meaning in holidays. St. Valentines day is about a group of people who were martyred and somehow that has escalated into giving cardboard cards and eating candy. Don't even get me started to St. Patrick's day. Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year! It looks like a lot of fun.

I'd rather take the universe as it really is than live my life believing a lie. It may be comforting to believe that "everything happens for a reason," or that "everything will work out for the best," it's simply not true. Lives are ended or otherwise ruined completely every day, for completely arbitrary reasons. I personally think it's better to know that you're in control of your own life, that the only plan out there is your own. It adds a certain amount of personal responsibility. Haha, I have to be honest, I have no idea about the "original" meaning of either of those holidays. Valentine's day can suck it, btw. But I got nothing against St. Patty's day.

So I'll probably end up an athiest by the time I die--but until then I'm going to fight it. XD I think it's ******** up what Valentine's day has turned into, but whatever.

It's funny, actually. My church has a Messianic Jewish priest, so we celebrate all the Jewish holidays there as well as the Christian ones. You'd probably like it there. XD I heart latkes... whee
