Kiran gave Viola a startled look, her sudden energetic movements surprising him a little as she pawed at him, rolling off his back and onto his belly. He watched her do her little wiggling dance, eyebrow slowly creeping higher and higher on his face as she spoke.
"Mom never mentioned being from the desert. Guess it's possible though-," he added wrly, "-because Mom didn't really talk much, period. From how I understand that really think forest I was born in is where my big brother lives. Guess she was visiting or something, never asked." He idlely scratched at his left ear, pondering this information.

She smirked as he viewed her as if she was crazy, amused in her own way. As he spoke she shook her head, she was certain she knew the others mother! She was sure!
"Rei is quiet, and she hates showing emotion. She is the aunt of a fox I know named Toxic, I think. They're related at least!!" She waited eagerly, wondering if the male would want to see her tribe now, or of he rather simply stay put. If she was him, which she wasn't, she'd want to see her mother!

Well that pretty much confirmed it right there. He'd never personally met Toxic, but he Aracelis had told him about her children and the times he and Odi had gone hunting together in the forest his brother had lamented the fact that his long disappearance from the family had caused a rift among them. Toxic, it seemed, had no love for a father who had abandoned her, her mother, and her brothers, no matter what excuse he might have had.
He couldn't resist making a correction to Viola's information, however.
"Well I've got an niece named Toxic," he said, golden eyes watching Viola. "Half-niece more like, since Odi and I are only half-brothers." He shrugged. "Mom's never taken a mate as far as I know."

"Okay~" She nodded, smiling in response as he explained. She flopped onto her stomach, paws folding slightly as she viewed the other. "I barely speak to her. She isn't that social, though she does seem to tolerate mama enough."
"Well. Do you want to see her? I mean Rei. I know where Toxic is.... But she isn't a fan of visitors. Neither is her mate, though I feel like Toxic would be the one flying off the handle."

Kiran shrugged. "Odi's a little off-the-handle himself, not surprised to hear his kid's the same. His mate seemed nice enough, but in a family of bad tempers she's kinda the odd-fox out." He shrugged again, apparently unconcerned with Viola's warning of Toxic's behavior.
He stretched lazily on the ground. "I wouldn't mind seeing Mom, I guess." His gold eyes stared off out into the desert, their lack of interest turned almost into apathy next to Viola's own high energy. "It's not that big a deal though, she knows I'm out exploring."

"Oki!" She mewed back, offering a smile in response. Twisting her tail around her leg, she considered an offer for the male, however reconsidered. Maybe, though he had a habit of not really caring for her offers. Still, she liked speaking to her guardian angel...
"Kiran. What would you like to do or see? I can take you. I'm free for the evening." She tested his name, still preferring her earlier nickname, though it was clear he absolutely did not like it.

While true Kiran would have normally rejected any offers of "sightseeing" out of hand, he did actually stop to think about Viola's offer. It was clearly important to her, and judging by the puppy-adoration in her eyes it was a genuine offer; if it were anyone else, he probably would have suspected them of trying to play a trick on him somehow.
"Well, you tell me," he said at last. "What's there to see around here worth seeing? I've been wandering for days, only see the occasional oasis for greenery. Mostly those prickly plants, lizards and snakes. Neither of my mom's talked about the desert, unless you could my winged mom complaining about missing open skies." Well, the skies here were certainly open enough!

She blinked. Hm? He actually took her offer? Smirking at the male, her tail swished in response. "Really? Well, I know of these really weird triangle things I can show you? It's far out, but I'm blessed like everyone else to not feel as much of the heat, if you are with me I'm sure you'll be safe. Want to see them?"
There was also a cave full of weird plants and such, maybe she'd bring him over, if they had time.

Kiran raised an eyebrow. As far as descriptions went, weird triangle things wouldn't have made it to the top of his sight-seeing list. He decided to give Viola the benefit of the doubt though; whether they both had the same idea of what counted as interesting or weird remained to be seen, though privately Kiran was sure there was already major difference between their attitudes and outlooks.
Yea, as if he hadn't realized that already!
Maybe it was just her enthusiasm endearing her to him; again, under ordinary circumstances if he'd been given such a strange offer for sight-seeing he'd have told the other fox to shove off. A cliff, preferably.
Instead he felt himself standing up and walking over to Viola. "Well, lead the way I suppose."

He agreed? She could have back flipped, she was so happy! Dragging her feet slightly as she moved forward, she decided that she would bring him to her weird cave later.
"We think humans made the weird triangle things! Or, I do." Incorrect. Junko had and she went along with the ride because she decided if Junko thought it then it must be correct.
With this, she began to pad ahead, silently pleased to have a companion for the evening.

Kiran had raised his eyebrows so many times today that privately he began to wonder whether or not they'd go back to normal, or get stuck that way. Hard to believe that only an hour ago he had been stalking the desert looking for something to liven up the day, and felt that first zing of thrill when he'd spotted the coiled and rattling snake...
"What, and the humans just abandoned them," Kiran asked skeptically. He didn't ever venture around humans and kept far away if he ever found one wandering around the wilderness.
Briefly he even wondered if Viola was some kind of pet to humans. They tended to covet foxes for their intelligence and brilliantly-colored pelts, and tried to "tame" them into dumb creatures obidient to their whims. It would explain why Viola had frozen so badly when she saw that snake...
A second later Kiran dismissed the notion. No Modifox would ever willingly tame for a human. The snake didn't mean anything. His sister-in-law was a fairly tough vixen herself, but even she didn't like snakes. That thought was reassuring, though he still wasn't all too hot on going to a human dwelling.

"Humans aren't smart. They abandon useful things all the time." She shrugged briefly. Humans were dumb to her, they dropped and left things so easily. They didn't know the use of things they made, and so it was left for the Modifoxes to reuse for their own needs.
She padded ahead, a large shadow in the distance starting to emerge. Oh, wonderful! They were so much closer than she thought! She turned to view Kiran once, to make sure he was alright, and smiled at him.
Well, this was an interesting story for later. She met an angel who hated being called that, who was actually quite grumpy but fun, and he was currently following her to the giant triangle things. How fun!

Kiran snorted. He already knew humans were stupid. Oh they probably thought they were clever, building their giant, stinking dens for their huge tribes to live in, destroying the land. Not even one in a hundred could have survived in the wilderness for long, and if they kept destroying what little wilderness was left they'd end up taking the rest of the world with them. Seriously, how stupid could one species be?
"How much further," he said after long moments of walking in silence. He still looked a bit bored, and didn't seem to have noticed the shadow in the distance as anything significant.

"See the shadow ahead? That's where we are going." The male was impatient, giggling slightly. She tilted her head back, smiling at the male. "Do you need a break?" Her tone was a playful tease, tail tapping the males shoulder before she slowed her pace. She considered tackling him to the ground, but instead decided that was probably one of her terrible ideas.
She wasn't sure if he was alright with the heat or not. After all, she was born into the privilege her god gave her, she never experienced the desert at its true heat. She hadn't even see a fox sick from the desert, though her mother told her many foxes had arrived sick before she as born. She couldn't judge Kiran's condition since her own was almost at peace with the desert.

Kiran rolled his eyes, but his tone was a bit politer. "I'm fine." It was mostly the truth but if he'd had to he probably would have outright lied; one of his besetting sins was pride, and there was no way he'd have wanted to seem weaker than this energetic, spunky vixen that he'd had to rescue.
And it was true that, being from a dark forest, he was disadvantaged. Heck, when he'd first arrived here he had frequently overheated and had several close calls involving lack of food and water.
He'd been here for several weeks now though, and was starting to learn the ropes. Sure, in a head-to-head survival contest he might (and this hurt to admit, even in his mind) lose to someone like Viola who had lived here her whole life. But by now he had grown used to the heat, the best times to travel to avoid the worst of it, and how to pace himself so the risk of overheating was less.
So it was with a distinct bit of pride that Kiran held himself after answering Viola's question, still trotting along behind her.
