He may have seemed a bit pitiful, flailing on his back, clawing at the air in an attempt to regain some sense of balance, to find the floor and drag himself to his feet.
His head had snapped up in an instant, a flash of clarity as if a light bulb had suddenly turned on. His FEAR, he'd yet to gain full control of it or truly understand how to use it, but maybe, just maybe if he could use it if only for a moment, it would buy him enough to time to get to his feet and find his way back into the air where he had the advantage.
The air around the dragon seemed to grow colder, crystals of frozen plasma clinging to his wings, growing to form a sheet of ice that if successful could have (hopefully) blocked whatever attack Petro threw at him.
Come on Sheridan, concentrate!

Petro let out an appreciative whistle at the formidable barrier of crystals Sheridan had summoned. The sight almost made Petro think twice about attacking again. Almost. He charged again, this time delivering an axe kick with his hooves. Tro cringed at the impact of hoof colliding with crystal and stumbled back.
"Haw! Now that's using y'r FEAR!" he cheered.

The barrier of ice and wings had cracked under Petro's kick, but had held strong, absorbing the full force of the blow. And that was all he had, the barrier had thawed and dissipated, but it had served its purpose.
Sheridan was at last on his feet, standing at his full height, head raised, tail lashing as he gazed at Petro. Was that a trace of a smirk? A sense of pride in what he had accomplished, even if he lost, he had used his FEAR and succeeded!
Then, perhaps predictably, he was in the air again, taking a moment to gain momentum then diving at Petro, this time (perhaps not so predictably) teeth first.

The tikbalang had attempted to use his own FEAR attack, gathering his energy into his legs. He'd meant to jump up again, use the FEAR to bolster his next strike despite being in the air. But Sheridan's sudden lunge forced him to dive to the side and out of the way

The dragon turned, immediately charging toward Petro again, unleashing another spray of plasma which was quickly followed by a snap of his jaws.
He was growing tired, this was obvious in the fact that his flight was much lower to the ground than it had been at the start. He had no idea how much longer he could keep this up.

The tikbalang was more accustomed to battling than his opponent and it was starting to show. The dragon boil's lower altitude made it easier for Tro to dodge the incoming plasma blast. His arms moved into a cross-block, the bracers taking the bite head on before he delivered a swift knee to the dragon's jaw.

The dragon huffed, his breath a heavy pant. By now the air had been abandoned, shaking feet placed firmly on the ground, though he may have looked near to falling over at any moment.
Petro was by far the better and more experienced fighter, that much was painfully clear. But even if it was his last strike, Sheridan wasn't willing to give up, to do so would be an injustice to his opponent. His head surged forward, jaws snapping in a sharp bite.

Petro simply stood his ground, gesturing to Sheridan that he had a free shot at him. Partly taunting and partly to give the dragon some boost in his killer instincts. But this was the only quarter he would give the other boil.

The snarl he gave Petro appeared more threatening than he may have intended, lips curled to show dangerous looking teeth. Whether he was angry at the taunt, at himself, or simply showing he still had some fight left in him was open for interpretation, perhaps it was a combination of all of the above.
When his jaws parted, it would have seemed his next attack would be another bite or a breath of plasma. It was neither that happened, but rather a sudden lash of his tail, a powerful swing in Petro's direction.

Not one to be intimidated, Petro's ears flicked to and fro from the snarl, his horse muzzle pulling into a smirk. Sheridan's attempt was admirable but it fell short to the horse boil and as the tail drew closer, the tikbalang raised a hoof and brought it down on the dragon boil's tail in a stomp.

A sharp cry followed by an angry snarl as his tail jerked and recoiled under Petro's attack. His head lowered, teeth showing as his eyes narrowed, pausing a moment when his own muzzle was only a short distance from Petro's.
It was a sudden movement, not from his jaws, but from his neck. A sudden thrash and surge, his head turned to ram his antlers straight into Petro.

Petro gave a loud grunt as antlers slammed into him, sending him stumbling back a good distance. He winced as a hand gingerly touched the spot but rather than worry about the dragon's sudden surge of strength, it only served to further excite the horse monster.
"That's more like it"! he cheered, the smile on his face turning feral.

He barely paused a moment to hear Petro's words, he couldn't give him the chance to recover. In an instant his jaws had parted, sending a breath of frozen plasma after his opponent at close range.

The freezing pain from Sheridan's last breath was a clear indication to the tikbalang that it was time to end this. "Y' did good, Sheridan," the horse monster grinned, equine ears twitching as his hooves kicked off the ground, ducking past the last of the celestial dragon's breath, and ramming his head right into Sheridan.

It didn't happen at all at once. The dragon first staggered on his feet, swaying one way, then the other, a stumble forward, a thrash of his tail. It almost seemed in slow motion as he finally fell forward, crashing to the ground with a resounding thud, landing on his belly, legs sprawled in all directions.
