"Thanks. When you have lived on your own for as long as I have you sort of need to be good at something and so I taught myself to fish, it is really the only thing I am good at" he said, deciding to leave the 'besides lying of course' part of it out of his statement "but berries have many good nutrients in them, they are not so bad but yes, I guess I could see how they become so boring after a while" he said as he nodded, teaching the other how to fish would be nice, especially if he got to spend more time around her, she was beautiful in her own bookish kind of way "sure, teaching you how to fish would be fine with me" he said smiling at her.

"Mmm" she had taken a bite out of her first fish and needed to finish chewing before she spoke "I'm sure there are many things you are good at" she smiled, surely fishing wasn't his only talent, after all he did take care of his sister so he would be good at playing doctor right? She bet he'd be good at teaching too, he seemed the patient type.. least he had put up with her well so far. "I think we are agreed then" she smiled thinking this seemed a brilliant idea "we stall hunt out old books for reading and take breaks to teach me how to catch my own meal, what do you think?"

Onyx thought over the suggestion and then nodded "yes, I can agree with that" he said as he shook his head "not really, I swear, I can pretty much fish and thats it, at least with you and the books you read you could possibly put into practise what you read, depending on the subject, I am just not that way inclined" he said, half wanting to tell her he couldn't even read, his conscience was starting to get the better of him, he hated lying to her but he couldn't help it, he was a little too proud.

"Can't you put into practice what you read?" She wondered if he was one who read fiction books rather than fact.. well perhaps he could keep the books she wouldn't read though she had never seen the point of reading such books. She was happy he would join her though, it meant they could save more books and go more places

Onyx shook his head "no, I can't, I tried once and I almost ended up nearly losing a paw, I think it is safe to say I keep book reading to being a non dangerous pasttime, taking the things you learn from books could be a little bit hazardous, at least to me" he said as he took a fish and took a bite out of it, savouring the taste a little, what he said was true, Andre gave him instructions once from a book and he followed them as best as he could but yeeeah, wasn't a good out come.

almost ended up nearly.. she held her tongue about his grammar, she had learned others tended to really hate that about her and she didn't want to upset him after he had provided her fish, maybe he did read fiction books and that was why he'd had trouble doing what was in the book? Course there were things in her books she wasn't about to try either. "What sort of books do you like best?" Best just to ask rather than guessing. She preferred facts over assumptions. She took another bite of fish enjoying the flavor.

"Fiction and non, depending on the type, I love classic authors like Bronte, Anderson, Poe etc the best and really any non fiction book to do with mythologies, I like Greek, Japanese, Chinese and Egyptian mythologies the best" he said, having head many stories read to him as a kid thanks to Andre.

Makoto nodded her head, yep that made sense then, she went to take another bit of fish only to realize she had eaten it all already, oops guess she was hungrier than she had thought. "I think I have several mythology books.. mainly historical perspective, but if you are interested you can borrow them" She smiled. Mythology wasn't her thing save for cultural understanding and perspective but she never could pass up on a book so she had some lying around. "I might have some fiction books as well, I'm not really sure since I don't read them myself, but you're welcome to look if you'd like." Her collection was vast she wouldn't miss a few.. ok she would she loved her books, but not just for borrow she wouldn't mind that.
((I think I'm going to have Makoto start a literacy school, gain admission by bringing books, expand her library without having to trek around herself -- more time for reading-- and spread the love of reading, she'd be in heaven XD ))

Onyx shook his head "I couldn't, not your prized books" he said, not wanting to take them just so they sat in a corner of his cave for months, letting her think he was reading them, it was bad enough he was lying to her but to carry that lie onto having her books just gather dust in his cave? No, it was better they stayed with her "I thank you for the offer but I just couldn't accept when when I would be scared I may ruin them by accident" he said, half telling the truth, the way he and his friends come and go in his cave, he didn't want to risk her books being ruined that way either.

((The only two kitsu she's ever managed to hold a conversation with have both been illiterate I think it's her calling to teach X3 ))
She smiled at him happy to see he cared about the care of books, she cringed when she saw other dog ear pages or break the bindings it was barbaric to her. So his concern and consideration was nice to see. "I'm sure you'll take splendid care of them and besides I have way more books than you might think" she laughed "I doubt I'll miss them for a while, and this way we will have more to talk about." She pulled out the old journal again flipping through it. "They aren't all written by crazy geographers" she smiled to emphasize the joke. Now that she had eaten she was ready to get back to work.

"Of course I'm sure, wouldn't offer if I wasn't." Never understood why others did that, offer something they didn't really want to give. She smile at him enjoying the exchange though if he didn't want to read about the geographer then what were they to do? She put aside the journal, and looked at the other books, it wasn't like she didn't have other interesting books to read and she did have to admit the entries in the journals were reading like fiction so she felt no love loss by turning her attention to the other books she had rescued. She would get back to the journal later, she still hoped it contained enough data to find new places she could find books in. She skipped the french book since Onyx had said it was of no help a brief glance at thew title explained it, botany, perhaps he had suspected the food he ate and was researching it? She shrugged and put the book aside, she had read quite a bit on botany it could wait till later. What else did she have? Another journal and .... hmm she wasn't sure. She pulled the book closer and opened the cover ahhh a book on symbols! That should help with the journal later! But it didn't give them anything to read right now. She shut the book and stacked it with the others. She wondered if he would help her bring the books home, she didn't want to leave them outside any longer than needed. "Would you be willing to help me bring my books home? It would give you a chance to find a book you might like" She smiled hoping he would consent

Onyx stopped eating and nodded "sure, be happy to help" he said as he finished up the fish he was eating before getting up to stretch "and where would this home be?" He asked curiously.

"Ahh" she looked around to get her bearings straight "about two or three miles from here, not far." She smiled. Not many had seem her place and she was excited to show a fellow book lover her abode she hoped he would like it. She placed a couple of books on her head balancing them there, she had learned the trick years ago, made her life so much easier. Then she waited for him with an eager smile.

Onyx placed a few books on his back, to him it was a trick he learnt since he moved out of home, when you need to store some stuff for the winter it was much easier if you could carry some stuff on other parts of his body and since he sometimes had to talk the back was the next best thing "oh, that is close" he said as he placed the last book on his back "lead the way" he said as he looked at her and smiled, she was rather cute when she smiled.
