"Trick or treat!" Well, Sammi wouldn't have to worry about gaining weight this Halloween! She hadn't yet received any candy. Another doll? Oh, they were so cute! She couldn't wait to add it to her shelf when she got home. She did so love collecting them. Her very first had been a doll of her favorite uncle; apparently her mother had made it when she was an infant to keep her from crying.

"Thank you!" she beamed at the person at the door, and raced to the next house.

The small, jello-y black mass of a shadow bounced along the sidewalks, humming and "ni"ing as she went, pumpkin pail in hand. She was supposed to have waited for Mama 'Zu to get off of work so she could go trick-or-treating, but why wait when she could go now? So go she did. Nini couldn't wait to see what she got; maybe someone would give her some candy. Or, better yet, some shinies! She even dressed up for it; the young shadow had donned a jack-o-lantern trash-bag, wearing it as a dress.

Sadly, the next house had no shinies for her. Or candy. Or anything, for that matter. Just a polite "we don't have any candy" and the quiet shutting of a door. Nini frowned; it was Halloween. They were supposed to give her something! Refusing to leave empty handed, the little shadow picked up a small potted fern up off of the porch, walking off with it. That'd show them.

As the Night family went door to door with the children it was fun to see what would be handed out. Kalamo was dressed as Stitch and Mar was dressed as Lilo. Getting clothes on the shadow was not easy. When she knocked on the door and a creepy old man walked out, the family all paused. Gabriel smiled and the kids said "Trick or Treat" well Kalamo said something that sounded like that and Mar said "Nar nar nar" then ended by singing "poopy" but the other kids had it down.

When the kids where handed all night mare head bands it was clear this older man had cash and a little cheer in him. Oddly he just handed them out and didn't say anything. The majority of the kids placed them on. Mar started to play with them not knowing she could place it on her head. Gabriel helped place the one on Kalamo. He liked it vary much. Slade his beast gurdian just chuckled "Well Stitch those wings match you well" he stated.

The next house wasn't nearly as stingy as the first. The little shadow let out a squeal of delight as sugar goodness was dropped into her bag. "Ni! Nininini!" she chirped in thanks before running back off into the night. The candy only lasted about half-way to the next house before the tiny little shadow inhaled it; wrapper and all.

Kiri was being dragged behind a curious, and insistent, little shadow. Ari was more than happy to barrel forward with Kiri's hand in his, and a trick-or-treat bucket in the other. [There was also a bag in Kiri's back pocket in case there was more candy than would fit in the bucket]

It was Kiri's first time taking his shadowy son out and about, and he figured Halloween was as good a time as any.

Moving up to the first house on the block, he turned, knelt down, and made Ari face him with hands on his shoulders.
"Now, when you get up there, you say 'Trick-or-Treat'. Can you repeat that?"

"ARI! AriRI."

"Good boy, close enough."

He allowed Ari to run up all the way to the house door, and knock on it, standing quietly to the side.

"Ari RI!" Ari said, holding out the bucket.

Kiri was surprised when the man in question gave the boy a rock, holding a finger to his lips toward Ari. "Shhh now... this is one pet your father will let you keep. Be good now, and have a safe Halloween!"

With that, the man closed the door, and Ari brought the pet over to Kiri.

"Ri! Riririri! Ari ri!"

"Oh?" Kiri asked, taking it. "It's a boy? Really? And you want to name it Ri? Alright. Ri it is."

He put the rock in his pocket for safekeeping.
