Were this under any other circumstances, Taryn may have laughed at the mouse that started to dance. This wasn't a time for gaiety, though. This was serious. They were all in danger, and by the fault of the Amityville staff. There wasn't even anybody to complain to...

Joachim apparently misunderstood her question, and the ghoul wasn't about to ask again. They had to prepare themselves for whatever lay ahead. There was one other relevant question, though.

"Where's Merel?"

With Taryn and Tset both there to help Joachim with anything he needed, Colette turned around and summoned another portal designated for the other side of the river. All that was left was Johan!

Colette exited her portal to arrive in front of Johan. "Your turn." She extended her hand and smiled. Soon they could move onward.

Johan's insistence on Tsetsiliya and Tayrn going ahead of him hadn't been entirely motivated by chivalry. He watched the far shore as Joachim and Tsetsiliya were joined by Tayrn, trying to think of a way to take Colette's portal without touching her. But it seemed that keeping in contact with her was pivotal in the technique working.

When Colette appeared beside him once more, Johan gave her outstretched hand a look both apprehensive and apologetic. It was ridiculous given their situation, but he simply couldn't relax enough to take her hand. Looking down at his own, he was struck by inspiration. He partially unwrapped the linen strip around one wrist and held the slack out to her.

"I -ah, do not like being touched. Vill this vork?" he asked.

Colette stared at the linen and tried not to frown completely. She understood Johan's reasoning; Colette didn't like to be touched either if she could help it, but being on the other end of the matter made her feel inadequate. Tset and Taryn were fine with it, and she certainly wasn't dirty or diseased. In fact, Colette felt if anyone were to be touched she would be prime candidate.

"Yeah, I suppose so," she mumbled while grabbing the strip. It was close enough. As she began to step into a newly formed portal, Colette gave the same warning as the others. Sort of. "Just don't let it slip away." Colette would try her best too, of course!

Momentary blindness accompanied the travel like before, although it was no real bother to Colette -- she did this plenty on her own. The Reaper just tried to focus on keeping hold of her only connection to Johan. That was her main concern. Was he even still there? What if it just unraveled right off his arm? Once she was out, Colette looked behind her to check on Johan. "You alright?" There weren't any actual health risks with this sort of thing, but it never hurt to ask.

Relieved, Johan willingly followed Colette through the swirling shadows. Stepping out onto the other bank left him slightly disoriented, but the Sorcerer's eyes were literally shining with fascination at Colette.

"Wunderbar!" he responded, before remembering where he was and that now was not the time for enthusiasm. Except for staying alive. Johan cleared his throat, and reclaimed the end of linen, wrapping it back around his sleeve. "Zat vas amazing. Danke."

When the tune ended he gave another disapproving frown to the little dancing grey mouse, as amusing as it was it did little in helping at the time being.
Wrapping his hands around his flute his shook his head slowly before looking at Taryn, “No….. I haven’t seen her or the others….. I thought maybe they were on the other side…. Or maybe scurrying around….. I’m sure…. They will show up soon…..”

Shaking his head again he continued to play a different tune on the flute not noticing the appearance of the last of his team.

"A-amazing?" The foreign outburst definitely confused Colette at first, but that flew out the window once she heard the compliment. "Well I don't know about that, hah.. No problem," she said sheepishly. The compliment was definitely reassuring considering before Colette wasn't even sure of her plan at all. Of course, she never imagined it as amazing of all things.

Joachim's newest tune broke Colette out of her embarrassed and flattered state and she looked at the mice again. They seemed to be doing the same thing as when she arrived with Tset. "Alright then.. what now?" she asked.

Taryn nodded up at Joachim and huddled closer to the group. Oh, good! Good, they were all over without any horrible gaping wounds. Colette had turned out to be damned important in this puzzle! Perhaps it had been tailored to them specifically? She had to wonder...

"Is there a door...?"

An odd, door-shaped outline on a nearby cliff face rattles and you can hear muffled sounds coming from behind it but it doesn't seem to open, not even when forced. You appear to be stuck here, at least until someone comes to get you. At least you're all together now!

Joachim has been released and the red-shirted mice have run off. Very strange.

It was difficult to say exactly how long they had been there. "They" being two statues made out of copper, standing on raised pedestals set between two doors. The statues had the bodies of dogs and the heads of lions; they were Fu Dogs. Each one wore a different collar decorated with skulls; one had a collar that was red, the other a sky blue.

Each Fu Dog had one paw raised, resting on a sphere. Or is it a skull? It is difficult to tell. They move, their paws tightening around their treasures as you approach.

"Well met," they greet in unison. "Your trials are almost over, Students of Amityville. What you have gone through is a sample, a mere taste of what is expected of some on a daily basis. But you are not here for that."

They fall silent, looking down and studying each student carefully. The one with the light blue collar speaks first. "Your last trial awaits you. It will not be easy."

"You will get to choose," the red collared one says, "This is a choice for each of you to make."

"Not as a group."

"Not together."

"But individually," the two say in unison gravely. "You may only go through one door. Once you have made your choice and gone through it, you cannot back out."

"The doors are locked for now," the one with the red collar says. "They will unlock when the time is right."

"For now, consider your options," the sky blue collared one says. "You may change your mind before entering, but once you go through a door you cannot return."

The statues fall silent as they exchange a glance with each other. "To determine which door you pick, please tell us...

THE OOC:

Welcome to End Game! There are two final events that are going on: the one you pick will determine WHICH event you go to.

You must pick an option before Sunday October 30th at 11:59 pm. Failure to pick an option will prevent you from taking part in the finale! Finale threads themselves will open on Saturday; you may post in a finale thread if you see your name listed there. If you do not see your name listed, please wait for Marushii, lizbot, or chibizoo to add it.

When you pick an option, please state it in BOLD ORANGE so I can see it at a glance!

You may change your mind as often as you like until you enter a room. One you enter a room you cannot go back. You may only post in a finale thread if your name is listed there.

Hope you guys are excited as I am for the finale! Until then, please use this time to finish your room's puzzles and get in your last boo fights!

Not in your group thread? Please make your choice in OOC so I know where to put you!

If you have a question, please ask it here. In addition, the finale threads will be posted as separate threads. When they go up on Saturday, please view them to find your name in them -- there's too many of you to quote-notify. |D <3

Colette looked at the two statues warily. Prior to becoming conscious of their existence, she had approached the peculiar outline of a door only to discover it was locked. Obviously something awaited them on the other side, hence the muffled noises and shaking, but it wouldn't budge. Not even trying to kick it in as if you were a total bad a** worked -- something that looked much easier in movies. The predicament had seemed quite hopeless, but now apparently all each of them needed to do was answer a question.

"Hmm..." Colette stared at the ground and contemplated her answer. She had no experience about the fabric of the future and 'destinies'. All she knew was that there were choices in life (or un-life as some would call it), and those choices always had consequences. Sometimes good and sometimes bad. Colette supposed just like this question, or choosing to go on a field trip. Except choosing to go on a field trip was always bad.

"Alright then, I know my answer.." The Reaper faced the two statues and looked at them with as much confidence as one could muster when facing Fu Dogs gripping skulls. "W-well. I make choices and take the consequences that come from them.. So I 'write' my own fate," she replied. Colette was sure of her choice. That was how it appeared to her, but of course, maybe she was wrong. Maybe fate really was pre-written, but there was no point in wishing she were a seer to know.

Waiting for them to answer, Colette looked at her teammates. They hadn't done much together thus far and she didn't feel awfully close, but she still hoped they wouldn't be separated. Or at least if they were, they'd be safe. Realistically, she knew they all couldn't possibly feel the same way.

Johan stood well behind Colette, wary of another attempt to kick the door open. The sudden appearance of the Fu Dogs startled the Sorcerer, but when neither of them immediately tried to kill them, he erased the unfinished rune he'd started.

Is fate prewritten, or written by you?

Now, there was a bitter question to ask a Klarstein. There was a long, silent hall filled with the young men of his family that had struggled against their fates. Not one of them had won against the curse, but to ever even hint that their fate could not be avoided was to give in to despair. Johan's answer was succinct.

"I decide." he told the dogs, expression grim.

Being released from the bubble was rather refreshing as the reaper's heeled boots rested on the dirt of the ground. Shoving the flute back into his pocket he gave the rest of his team mates a rather weak smile before nervously stuffing his hands into his pockets. The rather odd dancing mice took off running but in their stead was the familiar faces of the others, including Merel who immediately took her rightful position on the top of Joachim's head. Squeaking angrily she tugged on his hair as he followed Colette to the door but soon stopped as the voices of the dogs rang out.

Joachim had to admit it was rather intimidating to see two statues holding on to skulls speaking on the edge of their freedom of the bizarre room but then again everything about the room was intimidating. His brows furrowed as he glared at the door his lips pulled tight into a disapproving frown it was true he was probably not the bravest out of the group yet something bothered him.

"I write my own fate.....please..." He replied quickly.
