There was a small pause as he heard Xiu's response, before he gave a shrug.
"I'm used to being on my own, by my own choice. Being alone doesn't really bother me all that much," he explained, "I was never much of a people person, if you hadn't guessed that by now."
When she patted him on the head, Shun furrowed his brow and looked up to her in confusion. Why did people do these things? Lizzy did that to him a lot too.
"Well, at least you enjoy it here then."

"Hmm. Was...not being a people person your choice as well?" Her mind flickered back to the dream again, and the young Shun that she had seen. He had seemed so...normal? Innocent, maybe. It was probably the way he had been brought up that made him as impassive as he was. Almost unconsciously, Xiu reached out and gently pushed the corners of Shun's mouth upwards with her index fingers.
...
...
No. No, that...that didn't suit him at all.
Dear Jack.
She turned away for a moment, passing off a laugh as a cough. When she turned back, she was trying her hardest not to grin. "Y-yes, there's...there's nowhere else I'd rather be right now."

"Does anyone really have a choice of how they grow up?" Shun asked Xiu, "I never dealt with others too much outside of training and little bits of work here and... there..."
His voice trailed off as she poked at his face. What. The Jack?
Narrowing his eyes, he pulled back while looking at her oddly. What the hell was that?
"... Right."

She covered her mouth to stifle a giggle, but she did manage to remain serious enough to nod at his point. Yes, she supposed that no one really has a choice in how they grow up. "Coming here must have been a new experience for you then." Xiu sighed, looking sympathetic. Hopefully he was at least happy here. Considering how close he was with Mitsu, Xiu couldn't imagine what things would be like if Shun hadn't come to this school.
And of course, she owed him a great deal as well.
Looking thoughtful, she eyed the reaper silently for a moment before emitting a little "hmmm". "...Aniki, can you stand up for a second?"

It was indeed something for him. Nodding to that, Shun soon blinked at Xiu as she stared at him and requested him to stand up. He went ahead and did so, but he didn't know what she had up her sleeve.
"What is it?" he asked quietly, staring at her.

The only reason she had refused to do this before was out of the concern that it would be too awkward. Whether she had been thinking that it would be too uncomfortable for herself or for Shun, she didn't know, but...to hell with it!
Whether Shun liked it or not, Xiu suddenly reached out and hugged him. It was, as expected, a little awkward for her, but she pulled away before long. With a little laugh, she grinned up at the reaper and gave a little wag of her tail. "You really are the best big brother, Shun." She paused, and then laughed again.
"That was a compliment, by the way."

Rarely did Shun ever expect to be hugged by anyone. This time was no different. Taken by surprise, he ended up tensing as he normally did. Both her actions and her words confused him, as he wasn't sure how to feel about this at all. He never had any siblings, so he didn't know if this was really the norm or anything like that.
Once she let go of him, he relaxed, though he still wasn't really sure what to make of this, even if she said it was a compliment.
"How could you say that I'm the best when you've only had me as a 'brother'?" he asked. He didn't sound angry. The Reaper really was confused.

"Hmm? Well, I guess..." It was a good question, actually. She furrowed her brows thoughtfully as she considered her answer, "Just because I've never had a brother...doesn't mean that I don't have an idea what a big brother should be like?" That made sense, didn't it? And when she thought big brother...she actually thought of someone who had a tendency of teasing or bullying their little sister, which Shun was not prone to doing (which was a plus with her).
Though, uh...Shun wasn't prone to teasing in the first place, so--...nevermind.
"It's just...a feeling." Xiu said finally, shaking her head with a little grin, "You're the best big brother that I could have."

There was another strange thing here. For some reason some people here seemed to actually think highly of him, in a sense that didn't have to do with his physical capabilities. He was familiar with respect (was well as disrespect for that matter) due to what he was able to do. However, he wasn't familiar with people considering him to be much of a good person.
Either they saw something in him that the people at home didn't, or they were a little delusional when it came to dealing with Shun. He couldn't be certain which of the two it was.
"If you say so," he replied quietly, hesitating on what to say next, "And... you're.. a good little sister."
It felt incredibly weird to say that.

That had...actually been a little unexpected, really. Xiu had thought that Shun would just awkwardly dismiss her statement with a nod and then fall silent. She didn't think that he would actually comment back about their adopted sibling relationship.
Not that she was complaining. Awww, Shun.
"I'm glad," She chirped, beaming up at him, "I'll do my best to be a good little sister! And um...please come over for lunch again sometime, okay? I'll practice and learn to make every better sushi!" Her tone became eager as she said this, a look of determination briefly flitting over her face. Yes, she would perfect this recipe eventually!

Furrowing his brow for the moment, Shun soon nodded to Xiu before placing his hands back into his pockets. It still felt weird to have said something like that, but eh. He tried to not think about it.
"Alright. Just.. give a call I guess," he said quietly. Nodding once more, he glanced on over towards the door, "I should go now. I'll... see you around."

Yes, as she had originally expected, things following the hug had gotten a little more awkward, but it didn't bother the Baku all that much. She simply gave a little shake of her head before directing a smile towards the reaper.
"Yes, I'll text--" No, wait. No texting Shun. She remembered those Groanspring exchanges of theirs. "--call. I'll call you when I try making sushi again. Thank you again for dropping by, aniki, and I'll see you later!"
Once Shun left, Xiu would turn back to her cooking books for an hour or two. The sushi today was good, but it could always be better! Hopefully she could make a better meal for her big brother the next time he came over.
