Despite her own advice, Riley's curiosity caught her own metaphorical tongue as she watched the ghostly hand lift from Amrita's body. It was just so interesting, she wished she could watch and observe in silence.
But she knew better. And she wouldn't let Amrita down. So instead, she murmured to Christof. Can you get me some gauze while we are waiting, please? And to Malodore, she looked up for a moment and her face lifted in a grin. Did you enjoy putting the body together? I'm sad I missed it.
Even while she talked, her own conscious was following Amrita's mental path carefully, without intruding. Her presence was minimal, but she was observing the synapses, waiting to see if they would shut down one by one, in a gradual decline as the vetala left the body - or if they would all die off in a snap.

Si, Malodore thought back, with satisfaction; it remained outwardly silent, however, watching the body-to-be rather than Amrita's own current form. It felt that watching someone take off a body was rather like watching someone disrobe, and thus rather rude to stare at.

Gauze, Mistress? Christof moved to dig through the supplies all the same, but was still a bit baffled, Miss Amrita will need more than that for undergarments, I believe. He obediently returned with them offered out to the mindflayer all the same.

Riley slapped her forehead gently. Out loud, please, Malodore. Yours is the only voice that can be heard out loud, and the sound is important. And Christof, the gauze is not for her, it is for me. She took the gauze, and began pulling it apart into smaller squares. She could tell the bandage along her neck was heavy with blood, and if she didn't cover it with gauze soon, it wouldn't be a pretty sight.
She dabbed behind her neck idly. How fortunate that the school allowed the use of this room. It is perfectly suited for the purposes at hand.
She was just small-talking, badly, to get Malodore talking. Internally, she watched, and waited.

Out loud?
... Oh. Malodore cleared its throat awkwardly. For a moment, it had quiet honestly forgotten that the buzz of conversation in its mind was not actually audible, per se. "Ah, ah yes. Quite. Ah... yes, I am sure all will be well," it said, quickly, then flicked its gaze over to Riley. "Are you quite well, mia cara?"
Then it hummed, rather tunelessly, just to make sure there was some noise going on.

The second arm gave her difficulties but that too was defeated, leaving both ghostly hands free to reach back to hold the back of her head. The minimal talking in the room did help, it fooled her into believing she wasn't being watched, and that thought made her comfortable enough to forget that they were there, too. It probably helped that she was pretty focused on not failing at this, that was important too! There were some noises of frustrated strain, quieter ones of course, and soon the back of her head started to grow a little fuzzy, as though being looked through by a glass. The quite literally gray matter that was detaching was smooth; it had the shape of a head, but it was completely hairless. Riley would find that the synapses did shut off one by one as the Vetala left the corpse; not only that, but the facial expressions drooped pretty fast, the eye pinched closed and the jaw fell slack. Then, suddenly, there was a shriek and a thud. No, two thuds. One was the heavy metal echoed clang of the child's corpse hitting the table but the second, much quieter thud was there, but the ghostly gray creature was nowhere to be seen. Well, until the creature stood. She hadn't had the time to grab the fabric to cover herself completely, so until she was able to she was unfortunately naked; she had no hair, no ears save for tiny holes in the sides of her head, and her body was flat, smooth, gray and appeared genderless. Even her voice had changed, dropping from a young girl's pitch to something ambiguous. "U-um...s-sorry, I...slipped...J-just...let me..." 'Get my bearings' was left unsaid, instead letting herself awkwardly try to wrap herself momentarily in the large green shawl.

Mhm, don't worry-
Her thoughts were interrupted by the first thud, and she turned to look at Amrita's body. Where there was once a lively young undead, now lay a very empty corpse - and her expression made it clear she was gone. Riley's eyes narrowed, looking just a little smug and victorious, but when Amrita's voice caught her attention enough to follow with her gaze, the eyes widened.
Then she bent her head just slightly, in a respectful nod. Of course. And may I say, it's an honor to see the real you, Amrita. One of her cheeks rose in lieu of a half-smile as she took in the sight.
What mattered was that she'd finally exitted the body that had kept her prisoner, and she'd done it on her first try. There was a tint of darker purple flushing on Riley's face - she was proud. So proud.

Malodore's gaze flicked over Amrita's direction for one second - until it realized her unusual true form was unclothed. Its focus snapped forward once more, focusing on the new body before it. Modesty was very important to plague doctors, after all...
... oh. The body in front of it was also unclothed, and would also shortly contain an Amrita. Given that the girl had been trying to cover herself in her natural form...
Malodore quickly snapped a spare surgical smock off of the rack on the wall and draped it over the body, lifting the head just slightly to tie the straps behind the neck. There. That would do for right now. "All is ready, Amrita," it said, trying to sound encouraging.

Christof... had never seen anything like it. Well, technically he had the first time he had seen her take her arm out but never... the entire... and she was... but it wasn't... but what, exactly, WAS she? Her hands faced the right way at least, but anatomically... It didn't sound like her. Would the vocal cords of the Doll they had made for her sound like her? Maybe Malodore would fine tune them. He had spent a lot of care to find ones in good repair.
His palms were sweating and his face had paled by the time he realized he was staring, and quickly hobbled around the table to Malodore's side, waiting for instruction.

"O-oh, um...th-thanks...?" The ambiguous voice murmured, though the 'mouth' did not move. She scratched her cheek again, the disconnected hand swirling until it was backwards, the way she was used to it. Under her the feet did the same, miraculously not disturbing the way she stood. Then, slowly, everything set in.
"I did it..." She gushed, and then again, much louder, until the lab echo'd with her excitement. "I DID IT!" It was hard to tell with features that didn't move, but her body language screamed that she was ready to hug every single body in this room, both alive, undead and uninhabited. But she had to keep going, she wasn't done yet! There was an unmistakeable bounce to her step while she rounded the table to be at the foot, suddenly ignoring all sense of modesty as she climbed up to kneel on the metallic surface.
"..." The ghoul lifted her head to stare at the other three. "I...I can't do it if you're watching!" There was an unmistakable, childish pouting whine to the voice that was and yet wasn't Amrita's, the eager glow from her eyes diminishing into something that seemed a little more shy.

The shout of joy made Riley almost as excited, though it was more difficult to tell with her. Still, her eyes twinkled and crescented in happiness.
And then, just as suddenly as Amrita climbed up to get into her new body, they were being told not to watch. Oh, ah- Out of awkwardness, Riley flailed just slightly before swivelling around, giving her the privacy she desired. Of course, just tell us when you are done. Good luck, dear.
The excitement in the air was palpable, even for her.

"As you say, signorina. In your own time," Malodore said smoothly, pivoting along with Riley to give the ghoul some privacy.

Christof, meanwhile, had been staring as agape as was possible for him as he stared at the strange apparition. He had shifted to half-hide behind a moving cart of tools, but once her request had registered, he turned around so sharply it rattled, his face crimson.

"Thank you~" Once Amrita was sure, absolutely sure, she looked down at the body that was going to be hers, and took a deep breath. Okay, here goes nothing! The glow from her eyes diminished as she concentrated on the task at hand, stretching out her limbs and submerging into the body as easily as one would sink in water. Though it might have looked easy, it definitely was not; the ghoul had been used to a mostly hollow, rotten creature; this one was whole and proper. As the possession progressed the corpse's nerves and synapses leapt and sparked into use, the dormant muscles strained and flexed, and for a little while the body shook on the table, trembling as (un)life was forced back in to it.
A moment later, it went silent. There was no cracking bones as the extremities reset themselves, no movement of any kind. It was just a corpse, lying on a table with a coat and a large green blanket draped over it. In the body, Amrita was trying to get it to work; the eyes to open, the mouth to move, a toe or finger to wiggle, anything! It wasn't that she couldn't do it, she was inhabiting the new corpse after all, it was just...
"H-" Finally, something moved, the jaw slacked just enough to allow her to breath out the sound. "Hea...vy..." She was able to rasp next, struggling to use the dormant vocal cords; it was just above a squeak, like she had lost her voice. With this break through, others followed suit; grey eyes opened to squint in the light, fingers and toes wiggled and soon she was trying to move, pushing against the alien weight of the body to get it to do her bidding.
Her bidding, at the moment, was to just sit up; as easy as it sounded it was quite the struggle, between the atrophy, the weight and even the pieces that had been so expertly sewn together.

Waiting was agonizing, but the sound of Amrita's new voice made it all worth it. Internally, Riley cheered at the ghoul's accomplishment, but outwardly she made no move to react.
May we turn to attend to you, now, Amrita? She was still waiting for permission.
