The Phantom followed down wind, knowing that she had smelled him when she woke, he had enjoyed watching her shudder. He snickered a little to himself. She was calm once again which meant he would have more fun. He hated when they lost their minds or stayed in a state of panic. It was much more fun being able to break them several times before letting them go. The wind picked up again making the trees groan louder. Content, The Phantom began to hum a song the minor notes echoed through the woods like a ghostly performance.

Kainda let her senses lead her to a small stream of water. She lowered her head drinking slowly, tail flicking out behind her. Her ears flicked forward as she drank, her eyes keeping a watch about her. The mare stepped through the stream trotting forward a little to try and find a small patch of vegetation to eat. Her nostrils flared and twitched stretching her body as she walked. Was Phantom still playing his dumb games?

The fog began to lift, revealing The Phantom not too far behind her. "You are strong and determined" he said his voice almost caring. "Are you hurt at all?" he took a few steps forwards and took a drink from the river as well before he slowly waded through it. "I know you are hungry, there is grass just a short distance away" his head bobbed towards the almost visible patch of grass under a small opening in the tree tops.

Her eyes widened as she felt his presence, and her eyes could finally see beyond her snout. She hesitated a moment taking a small step forward when he suddenly spoke. She turned to face him as if studying his face. Why play with her then all of a sudden let her go? She simply nodded as he asked her about her hungry. At the patch of grass, Kainda started for it but stopped looking back over to him. "Are you coming or staying here in your deep, dark forest?" She teased, Her red eyes holding a bit more respect for the stallion and the darkness within.

The Phantom smiled, he did not think she would care if he came with her or went to hell. "I thought I might join you" he said honestly and pawed at the ground a little. "Unfortunately my lovely forest does not contain grass that green or that tasty" He went to walk next to her but kept his distance. He was still ready for her to try and strike back, though he thought it less probable by the minute. His eyes softened as he took in her form, her bright colours, her amazing horn. His nose flared as he took in the scents from outside his forest. The light almost hurt his eyes, but for green grass he could bare it. "You are a brave mare" he said respect in his voice

Kainda trotted along beside him eager to get a meal within her belly. Her head tilted toward him glad that he decided to keep her company. She grew to have a fond respect of the stallion and his dark, wily ways. "But I'm sure your forest does provide other things you need." Her tail flicked as they came upon the patch. Kainda lurched forward to snatch up a patch and chewed ravenously. She did not hide her hunger as she ate filling the nourishment slip down her throat into her gullet. "Now if only there were some apple trees.." The mare murmured after a large gulp trying to slow down now lest she get an ache. As he spoke, her eyes met his and for once she was...well flattered. "I am a hunter's daughter after all. But, you're not too bad yourself taking on lil' ol' me. As well as coming out of your element. I respect that." She flashed him a grin of praise. "And you're not half bad looking either." The mare winked before starting to feed again.

The Phantom smiled, he would let her eat a little bit more grass before he told her he knew where to find apples. His forest was full of them this time of year, it surprised him that she could not smell them. He reached down eating with hunger but not quickly. Everything he did was cool and calculated, even eating grass. He was surprised that she thought he was 'not half bad looking' coming from her, he was sure, this was a high compliment. "I wanted to show you my respect. If I did not respect you, or trust you. I would not come out into the blinding light and out of the forest I know so well" he said truthfully before taking one last bite of sweet green grass. "I know where you can find some apples, dear mare. I can take you to them, though they are back in my forest" he said with a smile. He turned on his haunches and smiled starting slowly towards the apple trees.

The mare flicked her tail as she trailed and fed, her steps light and careful not to step on any of the tasty morsels. Her nostrils flared a little taking in calm breaths and the smell of grass and sky. The fog had no smell and it made her wonder how her senses could fail her so quickly. "True. But it takes balls all the same." The mare spoke rather brashly with a cheeky smirk on her face. At his invitation to apples, she gave a bit of a whicker. "That would be amazing. I haven't had apples in so long. They're quite rare where I come from." She trotted along beside him, her tail and mane trailing against and behind her. "I guess you call this place home, huh?"

The stallion nodded "Yes, This forest is my home and I rarely venture out of it. Apples are usually quite rare but they always grow in my forest" his voice was happy, he was enjoying having a little time to just talk as he didn't do it often. "Were are you from? Is it far away?" he asked, he had ventured quite far but always come back to his forest. It was the only place he could be safe from all those that teased and ran him off.

"You must keep good care of your forest then." The mare commented as she strode on gazing at the forest. What was once a very unsure and intimidating place became a quiet forest that seemed humble and welcoming. Strange how its owner mirrored the same way.
At his question, she tossed her head as if to laugh. "Far away. Very far away. My parents were nomadic. I learned to survive on the go." Her ears perked forward and her nostrils took in the scent of apples. They appeared to be closing in on the trees. "You?"

"It is my home and my best friend" he said and smiled at the forest around him. His fur bristled when she asked about his past, he never talked about it to anyone. As he thought about it his eyes darkened, the fog thickened around their hooves and for a split second he looked as if he were going to leave her in the forest alone again. His nostrils flared and he looked on the apple tree, "We are quite close, you can smell them now I think." he trotted over and grabbed one off of the tree. "Please eat as many as you want. I can not eat them all" he began to munch on his apple and unbeknownst to him began humming, he was not used to others being around.

The mare watched him carefully. His mood seemed to suddenly change and she sensed the fog grow around them. He seemed to be quite the brat. The mare snorted flaring her nostrils as she eyed him. Of course he would change the subject. Any stallion would, running away from something they can't control. Typical. As they came closer to his tree, she stepped over taking one for herself and eating quietly. Her ears flicked over as she heard his voice. Humming? The Phantom...humming? She took another apple still quite in disbelief. "Thank you. It is quite delicious."

"Hm?" he looked up from his apple "Oh you are very welcome. I am glad they are not going to waste" he finished his first apple and went to get another one, his hooves matching the beat of the song he had been humming. The dark minor melody carried through the trees with the wind that rustled his cape. It had been many years since had met a mare so strong and self assured. She reminded him of someone he once knew, someone who had been very close to him.
