- Day Three -
When Lani-Ai awoke she found the first thing she thought of was a name. Apries. Where had she heard that before? As she lapped up dew she realized slowly that it was the male with a scarf. The male that had comforted her kindly. That was there for her for not just one, but two days. He had even promised to come down today, a third day. Why did it feel so... good seeing him? Why was she wiggling in place, peering side to side to see which side he'd come from? Why didn't she feel guilty until she realized she should?
No, he was a friend. It was okay. It was alright to be happy to see your friend, of course! Why wouldn't it be? She was just excited to see her new friend. Of course. Who would think otherwise?
..... Somehow she didn't seem to be convincing anyone but her self.

Pri came trotting back up the path, his scarf clamped in his teeth. It was pretty clear he was carrying something in it, from the bulge at the bottom and the way it swaying rather than fluttering in the breeze coming off from the ocean.
When he spotted Lani-Ai his eyes brightened a tad and his space picked up, tail wagging behind him. He didn't know for sure if this would work, but Lani-Ai had seemed so interested in seashells earlier...
He stopped in front of her and set the scarf down. "Morning," he said, cheerful though still ducking his head in a customarily shy fashion.

She was indeed happy to see Apries, smiling when the male seemed to respond to seeing her by moving ever so slightly quicker. Her head tilted when she spotted the bulging scarf in his mouth, questioning if he had caught to many fish to hold. When he set it down she heard the sound of something thin and hard move together, however the scarf had folded just over itself so she couldn't see inside.
Deciding that peering at something he hadn't shown to her yet was rude, she looked up and greeted him with a sweet smile. "Morning, how did you sleep?" She asked, biting her bottom lip before adding a tad nervously: "Apries." Ah! She had said his name out loud, and it sounded nice~ Oh, she was being a dork again, spazzing over saying his name... Sheesh.

Pri chuckled in a lightly nervous fashion. "I slept alright," he said. Not that he'd actually tried to sleep until the last hour or so, but during that hour he'd slept alright. Honestly he felt fine now, but knew it would catch up to him later.
"I brought something for you," he said, nudging the scarf. Gentle clinking noises accompanied the movement.

Lani-Ai nodded, pleased he had slept well. Her eyes fell on the scarf, head tilting at the sound and then raising to look at Apries. "For me?" He was giving her yet another present? She smiled, unused to this treatment as she pawed open the scarf her eyes widened, spotting the seashells she had been so fascinated with.
How long had it been? How long had it been since she saw a seashell? She had been on the cliff so long that she really didn't even know what the "outside" life was like much more than her cliff. The carnival that her boyfriend was supposed to take her to was a mere dream. The fields she once lived in were a distant memory.
This was in fact the nicest thing anyone had done for her in a long time. Actually, even this brought her to tears. A smile appeared as they fell, lifting a shell and examining it's beauty. She turned to Apries, approached him, and nuzzled his cheek.
"Thank you so much! This is the nicest thing anyone has done for me in years~" With this she began to move a shell behind her ear, her favorite one. Her tail was wagging a mile a minute despite the tears, looking for a matching shell to her own.

((These are pretty much what he's brought her [x] [x]))Pri felt his face turn bright red when Lani-Ai nuzzled him. "It's nothing," he mumbled, overcome by embarassment and looking down at the ground. It was a good kind of embarassment though, if that lifting feeling in his chest was anything to go by. "I just thought you'd like 'em, since you asked about then yesterday and you probably-," he stopped. It didn't really need saying about why she hadn't seen seashells in awhile, and he didn't want to make her sad again.
"Do you really like them," he asked. "Did I get enough?" He stared down at the collection in worry. He'd tried to get as many as possible, in different shapes, sizes, and colors, but it was hard to shell hunt by night.

Lani-Ai laughed, nodding enthusiastically. "More than enough! I can decorate the whole cliff with them~" She purred, giggling softly. The shell she had picked was a red and black one, now secured behind her ear. It reminded her of Apries slightly! It was red and even had some orange on it! She giggled at her secret thoughts, smiling warmly at the male.
"I love them!" She added, licking the males cheek as a "thank you", returning to sorting out her shells. She spotted a slightly tan and blue shell similar to her own red one, nudging it to Apries.
"You should keep one, too~ It's even shaped similar to the one behind my ear."

Pri smiled and took the scallop-edged shell that Lani-Ai held out to him. He wasn't as adapt at tucking the shell behind his ear as an ornament, but he managed. Perhaps when he got the time he'd try to turn it into an earring.
"I'm glad I managed to find them, then. I kinda had to guess at colors, cause it was so dark," he said, chuckling.

She blinked, head tilting. How late was Apries up last night? At this thought she hunkered down to view his eyes, scowling at him when she noticed bags. "Apries." She mewled, sitting up and pushing a strand of hair back behind her ear.
"How late were you up?" Worry crossed her face, eyes flicking to look at the shells. There were a lot, and he left when the sun was setting. Oh no! Had he stayed up late? Oh! Wait, for her? Had he done all this just for her? The worry became confusion at this point. Why? Why her? Why all of these things for her? She just didn't understand!

Apries stalled, perhaps a moment too late, while he tried to think of how to answer. "Not too late," he hedged. "I've been up later before." He tried smiling disarmingly, hoping to reassure Lani-Ai. "If you insist on it I'll take a nap right here while you sort through the shells. But really, I'll be fine."
Since he was going to have to vanish to find food and water at some point in the way, he'd probably rest then. He really didn't want Lani-Ai to add another worry to her already long list.

Lani-Ai smiled at Apries, head tilting. "Sleep if you want, I don't mind!" She was just happy having Apries near her, it made her feel liked and needed. She watched Apries out of the corner of her eye, nudging the shells about in a order, decorating the cliff with the shells by lining them around the edge. Her home was special now! Though, home was a sad word regarding the cliff. During winter she was cold, storms she was wet and often got sick, and it was hot during summer, unbearably so.
But it was okay right now because Apries had visited, and she had a friend. Someone to talk to until he went home, then she'd be here waiting again. Alone, as she was used to. Eventually, she wouldn't be alone, right? She'd be happy again, right? As happy as she was right now?

Pri chuckled softy. "Alright then, guess I'll take you up on that." He looked around at the ground and picked the likeliest spot that wouldn't have rocks poking into his fur in uncomfortable way, then walked over and curled up on it. For a moment he watched Lani-Ai as she played with her shells. His eyes slowly drooped shut, and his dreams were filled with shells of various colors and patterns swimming before him.
Apries meant to simply doze off for a little while, a small nap. But, blissfully unaware and lost in dreams, the entire day had almost passed when he woke up.

Lani-Ai smiled when she saw Apries slowly go to sleep, lowering onto her stomach and inching closer to view him closer. He was pretty handsome, she hadn't really looked at his face for a long time before, usually to nervous to make eye contact. He was such a sweet heart, and Lani-Ai wished she could reward him by maybe finding something rare here and giving it to him, or be less nervous!
Carefully, she went back to the sea shells, wondering slightly if she could teach him what crabs looked like. He'd love crabs. She settled nearby Apries as she pawed at her shells, debating on arranging them in his hair as a silly joke. She leapt away when he slowly began to wake up, having not realize how long she was by him for.
He felt so... natural to be near. Why? Why did she feel so natural with him? She looked away when he woke, pretending not to be thinking of him.
"Its getting dark." Why did she not want him to leave? She blushed, pawing at the ground. What was happening to her? With this, she curled up, closed her eyes, and opened one, nervously whispering:
"I am going to sleep..... I-If you want... y-you can sleep h-here. Either way, goodnight." With this, she went to sleep.

Apries sat up slowly, blinking sleeping and staring into space. It took a moment for all of Lani-Ai's words to make sense, and by the time he could muster up a response she seemed to have fallen asleep herself.
Pri sat there for a moment, torn between staying or leaving. He'd noticed that, little by little with each day, it was getting harder to leave Lani-Ai. He wasn't really sleepy after that "nap", but he was more than certain he could content himself in watching over her as she had done for him.
Of course his stomach chose that moment to let out a huge protest and remind him he hadn't eaten at all today. Pri flushed, embarassed, but it decided him. He needed to eat, and while he was out he might as well look for something for Lani-Ai as well.
"I'll be back tomorrow," he said softly, knowing Lani-Ai probably couldn't hear him in her sleep but wanting to say the words anyway. He slipped off as quietly as he could and headed for the trees. He tried to shift all his focus on hunting now, since he wasn't nocturnal by nature, but for the rest of the night Lani-Ai was always in a little corner of his mind.

She hadn't fallen asleep actually. She had closed her eyes, unable to fall asleep while Apries was there. She could feel him staring, but honestly didn't mind. When he spoke, she had to stop herself from lifting her head and smiling. He was coming back? Again. He was returning again. Softly, she smiled once he had left. Her heart was beating so hard she wondered how he hadn't heard it, one eye opening to watch his fading frame.
So, finally, she did fall asleep, hoping and perhaps even trusting that he'd be there tomorrow. He kept his word, he always returned to her, and she loved that. He always returned to her.
