Out in the sunlight these pieces proved to be quite glittery. She dragged these far away from the entrance to her burrow, hoping that predators who noticed them wouldn't be guided right back to her home. This task seemed to take an enormous amount of time, and the very last piece she was forced to leave in her burrow, leaning up against the wall as a sort of decoration.

Perhaps, she sighed to herself, these objects were some sort of sign from the gods. If only she could parse out just what it meant...

It seemed almost inevitable when she found yet another object buried in the dirt. This time, it was an old egg. It was quite fragile and crumbled away as she tried to move it. She was unsure concerning what sort of bird it had been from but it's contents had long since been removed. Maybe the baby had hatched, maybe it had been eaten. There was no way too know.

Having removed himself from his recent scary finding, Tanuri let himself fall back into digging again. He didn't want to think about the dark rune that much--it seriously freaked him out. He shifted his thoughts to the cut on his paw instead.

Baring his teeth at the memory, the lion began to dig at an alarming rate. Okay, so maybe he was being a little dramatic and fueling his thoughts with exaggerated fantasy, but hey--he was allowed to entertain his mind every once in a while. Not that what he was doing was fun, jeez...

He took note of the few others who had been digging all that time, wondering what their reasons were for being out in the heat that day. But when the male's paws touched yet another solid object, Tanuri's mind immediately went back to his game of treasure hunting. Pulling the item out with his claws, the object revealed itself to be a bone-decorated necklace.

Smirking at his find, the lion slipped the necklace over his head and let it fall around his neck. He trotted to his next digging spot, feeling more triumphant than he probably should've.

Fionntan watched as others started to dig. So this was the dried out oasis? The juvenile was kinda excited, not that he would tell anyone that since he prefered to keep a calm, cool expression on his face. Still! He wondered if he could find anything out here...sticking out his paw the young lion felt his claws dig into the soft ground. Was it okay for him to dig here? Looking around he checked to make sure that no one was coming his way. It seemed to be clear, so Fionntan decided that this was going to be his first spot.

"Well let's see what I can find." With a small smile the juvenile began to dig.

Well, maybe he would get a bit closer to “shore.” The warthog ambled away from the lump in the mud and hoisted himself onto a drier patch. He shook himself off, flinging lumpier bits of mud and debris everywhere. Snorting, he flicked his whippet tail and dropped to his knees. With his hind legs still straight, his nose was shoved directly at the earth, and he used his entire body to shovel earth away with his snout. He stopped when he came across a fairly large rock – one with marks scratched into it. He squinted at the object, but didn’t think there was any importance to it.

After all the obstacles she'd faced that day, the egg seemed like quite the welcome break, even a refreshing one. She soon had it cleared out (she hadn't moved it far from her hole, there was little chance a predator would care much about an old egg shell), and returned to digging in her now not so little hole. Maybe. Maybe if she dug out all the items, she wondered, their mysterious meaning would be apparent.

She smiled. Little hope in that, really, but if her entire day was going to be like this she may as well enjoy it...

Another object caught her attention as she dug at the floor to her burrow. This one was cool to the touch, similar in texture to the necklace she'd already dug out. This was small enough to drag up too the surface, so she did so. There, she cleared off the dirt and held it up to the light so she could have a good look at it. It was interesting, but not worth anything more to her then any of the other things she'd pulled out of the hole that day.

She was not so enthralled by it though, that she didn't notice the lioness approaching her. Dropping the trinket, she scurried back into her hole.

Much to her surprise, the lioness didn't even try to pursue her. She merely said, "I will be taking this," as she picked up the trinket.

Niwaa was barely brave enough to stick her head out of her burrow to watch the strange lioness walk away.

The warthog skipped the rock and continued shoveling at the ground while occasionally glancing over the myriad of creatures scrabbling at the dirt. It looked as if the sun had struck the desert with heat madness. It wasn’t the first time he’d seen such a thing, but normally it developed as herd animals all charging around pointlessly, or hogs picking fights with snakes and cheetahs, or zebras singing wildly. This mass collection of digging was probably not something to be repeated. His musings were distracted when he rammed a tusk against another hard object. He lifted himself up to dig more carefully with a hoof.

((*EDIT smile )
It turned out he need not have bothered be careful. The rock he’d scraped against was terribly hard, and he doubted he could have scratched it with his best efforts. As he rolled the glinting stone into the light a lioness arrived. The warthog watched her stoically until she ran off with the stone, though he nodded to the jackal. Even covered in filth and grizzled hair, he seemed in accord with the jackal.

(Jackal if I can pick? Still not sure I get it ^.^")

Meeper felt he had so much to do today. Cleaning out his den, watching for predatures, and he still needed breakfast. A single bug was far from enough. Determined to find more for his breakfast the meerkat set to work. He moved to a damp spot and started to furriously dig. A nice juicy worm would do well to fill his belly.

The second food item he found was another insect. A beetle. It went down quickly and he went back to digging. He moved down a little to a fresh spot. Soon he was rewarded with a juicy worm. Chomping down, Meeper looked around to observed the others that were around.

Spirits lifted by the luck of her most recent findings, Momo was able to lose herself a bit more in the entertainment of treasure hunt, placing her physical feelings at the back of her mind. Her maw was smiling despite herself, and the lioness padded over to a new digging spot. She was closer to the red male this time, and noticed he had found himself a necklace.

Feeling strangely happy to be sharing the same interests with other individuals in silence, Momo began to dig again. It was somehow refreshing to take up a task that was otherwise outside of the norm for the pride, and the lioness couldn't help but wonder in an almost cub-like way what she would find next.

Paws striking what felt like bones attached to string, the lioness pulled out what she immediately recognized as a necklace. Decorated in bird skulls and small bones, it was similar to the one the red male lion had found. The lioness began to smile again at the strange coincidence of it all and slipped her new necklace over her head.

Fionntan dug further into the dirt after having already discovered some weird thing. It might have been a religious artifact, but for what he didn't know. Honestly the carving slightly disturbed him so he pushed it back behind him while he began to dig again. Still he paused in his digging to look back around. Should he pick another location? No. He decided to try the same spot again. Maybe this time he would find something better. The juvenile nodded before pushing his way further into the ground.

Naseera had something akin to premonition when it came to rare finds. It had been what made her wanted by the world outside the Motoujamii. Maybe this little stint of having a home wouldn't go so badly for her after all...

"Hey!" She yelled, suddenly noticing several objects glint in the sunlight. And held by non lions! How spectacular, that didn't even make this difficult! "Hey, get lost! What would you all know about...uh-"

The lioness grabbed the small object unearthed by the mouse. "Whatever these are!" Then, she noticed the one dug up by the warhog. "Ooh! That's pretty too, let me see..."

As she ran off, the a small back jackal replaced her position. He viewed the smaller animals with something akin to a kingly stoicism, and nodded his head. "Thank you for uncovering those. The Jackal clan will reward you."

The glittering of white bones in sunlight caused Tanuri to look up from his digging, and he saw that he was close to the white lioness who had found a necklace very similar to his own. Smirking, the male felt a distant sort of bond to the lioness. She was treasure hunting, like he was, and had even found a necklace just like he had.

Hmph, well...their new pass-time wasn't that bad. There were a lot of other things he'd rather do, he guessed...but for now, he didn't mind digging through the sand, nicked paw and all.

Tanuri remained within a considerable distance of the white lioness, but his eyes were now and then focused on a few cubs, too. He didn't really know how to handle cubs, and so he made sure he was well away from them.

After a few more moments of digging, the lion pulled up a small box of some kind. It had once been painted a bright color, but it was obviously very old and faded and...kind of ugly. The lion attempted to open the box a number of times before frustration caused him to kick the casket aside and move on to a new spot. Useless junk, hmph, he didn't want it anyway...

Fionntan frowned. Another one? The juvenile sighed before pushing it back behind him. Maybe this spot was just full of these things. He looked down at his mud covered paws with a sigh. Should he move then? Looking around the young lion watched others digging. Did any of them look successful? Not that he would follow them...he had too much pride. "I'll just try again then." Looking back down the juve started to dig yet again.

Bone necklace clinking with every step, Momo scanned the oasis bed for a new digging spot. She flicked her tail behind her a few times, creating a welcomed breeze against her ankles. This action brought her mind back to heat and thirst, and the lioness shook her head with a growl to toughen herself up. She hated over-thinking things, but it was a part of her she wasn't sure she could change.

Feeling a little bit down despite the cub-like happiness she had felt by finding a few new trinkets, Momo was eager to get digging again to forget about her racing mind. She watched a few little ones try their paws at digging, then her gaze wandered back to the red male lion. He seemed frustrated at what he had most recently found, and Momo felt a faint smile tug at her lips. She got back to digging.

After only a brief moment, the female's paws touched something familiar and she pulled up her find. It was another necklace, strewn up with bones and very old, rather crusty feathers. Blinking in disbelief, the lioness pulled her new necklace over her head and, forgetting herself, threw a grin at the male red lion. She never expected that this gesture would actually be seen and cause her to make eye contact, but it did. She stiffly turned around and walked to a new spot.

There! His twiskers twitched in excitement. It seemed that a couple something had been found. There really was stuff here beisdes breakfast. When the jackel stepped up though, he scooted to the side away from it. It certainly didn't look very friendly to him.

Moving slightly off to the side, he wanted to find a new place to dig. He chose a spot toward the edge of the group. Once more the little fellow sent dirt flying. He was so proud how far he could send it.

She had heard rumors of something going up by the oasis and ever curious she had decided to check it out. Of course she had let her parents know here she was going, but she was no longer a young cub but almost an adolescent and she figured that so long as she was still on pride land she would be pretty safe from anything too big, bad a ugly.

Thus is was with a light heart and the excitement of the young, that Kuza set off on her self-appointed mission: to find out what had everyone else in such a stir. It wasn't long before she found the oasis and the already fairly large collection of lions and other creatures digging about in the drying muck. Giggling and more than happy to 'lend a paw', Kuza squirmed through the mass of bodies to the center, wanting to see what everyone was up to and what they were apparently searching for. Watching as an older lion pulled something large out of the riverbed, she grinned. Treasure!! Unperturbed by the mess she dug in, paws flying as she set about digging her own hole. What would she find?
